Ok, I have more questions about trying to get this job. And you may now realize that I am secretly neurotic (or maybe you already new, and I'm the only one that thinks it's a secret).
My friend brought me the actual listing, and I don't need the resume after all. It says to send letter of interest, application, and references. The letter of interest will drive me nuts as I try to get it perfect, but I actually feel equipped to handle that part. I went online and found the application. It's not too difficult other than figuring out how I want to present my duties in a coherent, organized fashion and trying to put my answers into neat little boxes that they don't really fit into. For example, hours worked/pay received. There is one box for each job/location. Last year I worked 5 half days a week, and this year I only work 2 half days a week. I guess I need to list the current, but I'd rather list the other.
Anyway, I really need help with choosing references and answering the question, "For reference purposes, do you have a problem with us contacting present or past employers." I feel like I need to answer "no" to that question, but I really wasn't ready to tell my current director that I am applying for a different job. It will definitely change dynamics with everyone in the preschool, and I'm not actively searching for another job. This opportunity just fell into my lap, and I feel like I need to pursue it. So, should I tell the director about it? Should I tell my co-teacher, too? I don't want them all to think that I'm not serious about the preschool or that I'm planning to leave, especially since chances are almost 100% that I'll be back at the preschool next year. But I really would like a position that pays more if there is one readily available.
I also am not sure who to list for references. Other than the fact that I don't wish to let the people that I'm working with know that I'm considering a different job, my current director says some really stupid things fairly often and isn't particularly professional. But I don't really have other supervisors that I can list. Do you think that the person that I founded the Two's Time program would be a good reference? How about the person that I moved the program to a different school with? We're more like peers than like I worked for them. The director of my last preschool has Parkinson's and moved from the area, and I don't know where she is. The director previous to her, I might be able to get in contact with.
I promise you that I am reasonably intelligent, though I know that I don't sound it right now. I will readily admit (to you) that I lack self-confidence, but you probably already realize that.
