DDA Chapter 18

well I am at work. But it has been a pretty nice day, till a patient miss behaved. She is now back over in Labor and Delivery.

Oh my - what did she do?

(I need to take notes about proper behavior, apparently! ;) )

Lindsay - DS said he thought he did well. He thinks he made a mistake on one section of his timpani solo, but I guess the snare went well. :)
DH said the band director told him they expect DS to compete on the state level as he gets older. They are going to start him on the quads next year. Funny that we were told he was REQUIRED to play bells, yet he hasn't touched a bell all year. :confused3

I don't think there are as many choices for bedding locally as there were when I had DS. I think there are more "boutique" shops and fewer big retailers. We used to LOVE Baby Superstore, but it was taken over by Babies R Us and they don't have the selectiont hat they did before.

Theresa - Great! Good to know this is par for the course so we won't expect it to be different next time! :rotfl2:

That's great that he seems to be doing so well! If I had to go back and learn an instrument, I think drums would be cool. :thumbsup2 We formed a joke "girl band" for a big Battle of the Bands competition we put on every summer at the firm, and a couple of years later, some of the participants actually decided to learn instruments for real. My now former boss took up rock-and-roll drumming at the age of 39 - and she's great at it!

I survived the day unscaved. We did CPR, choking and AED today so there wasn't an opportunity for me to get hurt :lmao: My fingers are okay. They sting pretty bad when they first get wet, but otherwise they are fine. Tomorrow we have first aid and backboarding followed by an 80 question test. I need to read and study tonight, but all I really want to do is go to bed. I'm really tired. I told Chris that I'm drawiing a bath now, I plan to grab my book and notes and study in bed until I fall asleep

Yay - I'm glad you didn't suffer any further bodily injury! Good luck on finishing things up tomorrow!

ohhhhh...tense!

We did go to Target where I found a ton of stuff in the Valentine's section for 90% off and Dollar Spot at 75% so I was able to pick up a few more things for Abi's birthday and some chocolate for me for under $6.:cool1:

Well, at least you got some good deals. Break out that chocolate!

One flake to many :rotfl: I am not really sure, but the winds is what is causing the problems. The main roads are ok, but the sides & highways are getting some nice drifts.

Yuck! I'm sorry. I saw on the TV at the gym that Chicago got almost 4.5" - I know you're not that close to Chicago, but that was my frame of reference. :goodvibes I hope Kristine (and Bill!) are faring okay.

I just got an email....I passed the City and County of Denver test....with an 88.86%:cool1: (I know the section on fractions is really what got me;) )

So I have made it through to the next step:goodvibes

Well, see - now that is great news!! :woohoo:

I just called the band director for DS's scores. He got Superior in both snare and timpani!!

WTG DS!!!! :yay: :yay: :rockband:

And just like magic, DH calls and says they are done!

He said it was a disorganized mess. DS had to play one drum in one room, then move to a different room to play the other drum. How hard is it to put 2 drums in one room? :confused3

They are so far behind the band directors may not have results until Monday. Sounds like a disaster!

Well, that doesn't sound so unusual to me. It usually takes about a week for all our scores to be audited and returned to us to share with our students. How many students were evaluated today? We had 1800.

Yippie Skippie :cool1:

I had a very good day. I heard good music (for the most part) and my concerto students all played wonderfully! :goodvibes

Disney Music Montage

One day of my non-weekend, weekend down. I have that training thing tomorrow night. I have to make sure I take time off later in the week to make up since I am working a bunch this weekend. Although I will be tempted to work a bunch of hours to get stuff ready so I can go on my trip.

This was so perfectly said that I had to quote it!

:lmao:

I am trying my darnedest not to call Jim any names, so when Jennifer and I were talking yesterday she was calling him names for me.

Elizabeth-tell DS, WAY TO GO!!! on the superior scores!! I've always wanted to learn percussion...I always say I want to be a drummer when I grow up. :goodvibes

That's a good question. I don't know how many kids were playing.
We were originally told results take 30 minutes to an hour, and the kids could stay at the competition for scores or call for them later. Since they were already running behind DH figured there was no point in sticking around for scores.

Lindsay - DS would LOVE to have a full set of drums. He likes to play the demo sets at Guitar Center. But there is no way. We don't have the space or the funds for a set like that. :scared: And I couldn't tolerate the noise if we did have the room and the money!

Good job to Carter! He needs a drum set like on Howie Do It! ;) :lmao: Although I think not!

Do they have an indoor drumline at the Middle School or High School he will be attending?

I love watching percussionists perform. I would love to be one.

The band director told DH that going forward (I guess in high school) there are no changes to assigned times, so Pushy Mom won't be able to manipulate things to her liking.

Hope the written exam goes well, Deb!

Theresa - I was SOOO tempted to buy clearance Valentine candy the other day! The only reason I didn't is because I didn't feel like splitting the stuff into 2 transactions.

Congrats!! :thumbsup2

Wow, tell him great job for us. Nick and Hunter both play drums, but there are no competitions around here.

My kids would love a full set of drums too. I told them to ask Daddy if they can make a studio above his shop (which is not attached to the house). If they can create their own space then I wouldn't be opposed. Of course they are too lazy to work on that project.

I have been studying. I must say I'm overwhelmed. 3 days is just not enough time to absorb everything. As it is we have only had the opportunity to try things once. Pretty much everything has changed since I took the class 23 years ago :confused3 I'm confident that I can save people, but I'm not sure I would do the rescues exactly as outlined. Plus CPR has completely changed since the last time I was certified. NOt to mention that we haven't even covered 1/4 of the material that will be on the test, we will do that before the test, but I won't have time to study it after learning it. Chris thinks that I will do fine, but I haven't taken a class in years so I'm not as confident. The fact that my instructor has already offered me a job should be a good sign, right? :confused3 I don't have any time to work for him, but it was a nice offer. I'm amazed at how many job opportunities are out there if you think outside the box. I'm all for learning new skills and making myself more employable :thumbsup2

Becky - I will NOT be sharing those photos with him, but thanks for posting! :rotfl2:
Our middle school AND our high school have kind of weak band programs. I am pretty sure there isn't a proper drum line at either one.
The other high school we were looking at has an awesome drum line, but I don't think we are really in the mood to move now.
The band director told DH that if we send DS to the performing arts high school that he can still march at the "regular" high school because the arts school doesn't do marching band. Of course DS doesn't want to go to the arts high school. That's a Mommy dream, not a DS dream.

I am sure you will be fine. You can always read through the materials again later to review.

I am sure that NOBODY who has saved someone's life has done it exactly the way it is presented in the textbooks and class. You do what you need to do, if presented with that situation. Good Luck!

I'm off to bed, hopefully I will stop worrying and get some sleep. I probably won't check back in until tomorrow night. Have a great one :thumbsup2
