DDA Chapter 17

Good Morning DDA

The wake last night was like a reunion, I saw so many people that I haven't seen in years. It was good to see everyone but a shame that it takes a funeral to bring everyone together.

Ken really was a wonderful, caring, and giving person and it showed in the amount of people that turned out, there wasn't enough room for everyone to attend the service.
:grouphug: :grouphug: That's what they say about weddings and funerals. :guilty:

Happy Birthday Amy!!!!

I've just skimmed so I hope I don't miss anyone....

If I were to buy a standard Magic your way ticket, could I pay to upgrade it to a park hopper at WDW? I am pretty sure I can, but just want to make sure.

Also if I do not use Magical express, what is sent to me?

Thanks!

I am thinking I should book soon as last night all value resorts were available, tonight only one is.
Did you book yet? The 7 for 4 deal is a package so you'll get a packet about 30 days before your trip with package details, $200 gift card voucher, arcade voucher, luggage tags (not to be confused with the ME tags...).

Jonathan is also sounding much better.
:grouphug:
Is your cell phone still the same? Do you still have mine?

Thanks, ladies! I finally got my PhotoPass CD and loved this one taken at AKL on Christmas night.
It is a beautiful photo!

Thanks. It isn't that bad, just feels a little weird.
Hope your eye is feeling better today. Joe got a nice package from you today. He was so excited! Now he only needs 9 more.

I'll be back to catch up later, I hope. For now I have to get off and work around the house. When I'm on the computer, I just reread and email from my MIL (and my snarky response ) and get irritated. I'm going to channel Amy (whose facebook status yesterday was something about taking out her frustration on the Dyson) and work elsewhere.

:offtopic:
Long story short, she emailed last night and said they wanted to come visit this weekend. I kid you not, included in the email was "any time is fine, although we can't really do Sunday and we can't stay later than 2 on Saturday". Um... so you meant Saturday morning is fine. Sorry, Kyle's on call. I told her just that, very nicely, and that - unfortunately for her - we just need more notice. This is not a new thing, we've had this conversation since we got married. We've had the conversation a hundred times since the girls were born, but then again she doesn't ever listen to anything she doesn't want to hear.

The reply? A GIANT serving of guilt (in which I did not partake :snooty: ) and a plea to "squeeze us in if we ever find the time" .

I know it's not a big deal, but she just got under my skin. (What's new, really?) In my original reply I had made it clear that the reason she couldn't come down is because of lack of notice. We have plans, we aren't changing them. Kyle thought I needed to be more clear, but I thought the declination of her request was clear enough. Apparently not, considering she whined about how we can't make time for her, she never gets to see her grandchildren (I'm sorry, some people have to go more than 3 weeks even, when they don't live in town. Heck, my parents go that long and they live 10 minutes away!)

This time, however, I was PERFECTLY clear in my reply. :rolleyes1

Ugh!

I'm off to listen to live365 and be happy. I have hooked my computer to our Bose System and I can blare it in beautiful sound throughout the house! :yay: Why didn't I think of that before?! Disney Park Music sounds infinitely better when not coming through our crappy computer speakers! :thumbsup2
:grouphug: How frustrating!

Last night at Target Eric and I stumbled upon the Crammer, the LeapFrog system, that Bernadette's Joe got. It was on clearance for $30. Just thought I'd let you know if you wanted to look for one for Nicholas. I picked one up for Emma.
Great price! I paid about $45.

Those of you that are steak eaters, where is the best steak at Disney that you have eaten?
I had a nice steak at Brown Derby but the next year it wasn't as good. I did enjoy my steak and atmosphere at California Grill. I'll be there Saturday.:cool1:

For those of you curious about the quality of the Disney Photobook, here are some pictures of mine. I don't think I would purchase this on it's own, but because I got it for $50 in conjunction with the presale photo CD, I thought I would try it.
Thanks for posting!!!! I think I'll skip it this time but will check to see if they add any more layouts when I go with Emma for her 7th birthday next year.

Well talk about cutting it close, the shower is tomorrow and I just finished this,

IMG_0349-1.jpg

It didn't come out exactly as I had pictured, she'll be able to use it when she's a toddler.

We are keeping Brandon tonight but we found out last night that a family friend has passed away so we'll be taking him with us to the wake. I won't take him into the viewing area, we'll take turns going in and giving our condolences, I think it's too soon for him, and certainly something his parents should explain to him.
Beautiful!!!! She will love it. Enjoy the shower! Sorry for your loss.:grouphug:

I did decide this morning that I need to talk to Erin and Brendan tomorrow. I think that Erin thinks I know I'm babysitting Kaylin every Saturday. Every week until this one, she's called and checked with me about it and let me know the times. This time she never called and I came down from my shower to find Brendan here dropping her off. Lucky for her, Phil was sick today. Otherwise, I would have left here at 8 when it was time to take him to work and then just stayed at the mall for the movie. Plus, with having charges all week (the baby has been here everyday lately plus I'm adding 1-2 two days a week in Feb and will add another 1 or 2 after we move), I just can't have Kaylin every Saturday, especially when I'm not being paid. That is my only day off right now since everyone is here most to all of Sunday as well. I think I've decided to offer 1 Sat a month, but am still working it out. Due to the issues we sometimes have, I don't think this is going to go over well. If they want to offer to pay me for every Sat then I might consider it. I've got to figure that out though.
:grouphug: She's taking advantage of you. Good luck talking to her.:grouphug:

Part of the reason is that you have boys and most Moms don't sew for their boys. Now, we have DDA-ers that make everything for their kids, including PJs for all but I think overall, most sewing is done for little girls.
I actually think it has something to do with if your Mother sewed. I was fortunate to have a Mom & 3 older sisters to teach me and good teachers. I also think boys are harder to sew for-at least a button up, collared shirt can be intimidating.

We are home safely from Disney on Ice. It was a terrific show. Hunter even commented on the way home that he understood why Colby would want to see it twice. We loved it. Of course Hunter forgot his camera in the truck and it was way too cold to go back out for it. I did take a bunch of photos on my cell phone though I bet most won't come out. We had terrific seats and they were cheap too. Actually the venue was maybe 1/4 full. The back side was sectioned off due to the stage set up and none of the balcony seating was used. Many of the lower level seating was empty :confused3 It worked out for us as we had an unobstructed view. Colby was so excited and confused. He kept telling us how the arena was different when he was there before :rotfl:  I bet it was different as he saw the show in Boston :lmao: :lmao: He sat on my lap through the first half and kept telling me to get the camera ready as something big was going to happen. Got to love a kid that loves Disney.

The boys are camping out in the living room tonight so I guess I'd better log off and go to bed myself.

Good Night All.
Sounds like a lot of fun!!!!

We had a feeling that Jake is allergic to animals -- cats and dogs, from minor little reactions (itching) after being around them when he was younger. We're never home so we don't have a dog, but we have our bionic outside kitty, Jessie, I've often talked about.

Long story short, Jake has step and I was taking him in to Dallas earlier tonight to an urgent care facility. Jessie had gotten in the car when Randy was taking plastic bins out of the house after making a run to the recycle place, and gotten shut in. Jake's warm-ups and under-Armor shirt were in there from when he took them off before his baskeball game. Jessie must have laid on them, as he broke out in a pretty massive case of hives by the time we went in the room to be triaged. I think the doc was more concerned about the hives than his high temp /strep.

When I got him home, I had him take a shower to try to help with the hives. He called me in to the bathroom to look at something. Turns out, he had a hidden Mickey hive. I unfortunately didn't take a picture of it. :rotfl:
Poor Jake!!! Hope he's feeling better today!pixiedust:

I made myself a T to match Lizzy and PJ's to match hers too.

So who told Lizzy she could grow??????? I had pulled out some summer clothes for our trip last week but waited to yesterday for her to try them on. She had 3 really nice pairs of shorts from Children Place in size 8 that don't fit. What I don't get is that her size 8 jeans are all too short but they still fit and the 10's that she's wearing now she how to close up the waist a lot with the button elastic.

I started getting nervous but we did find 3 shorts that fit her and 2 pairs of light weight pants so we'll be OK for the trip but she'll need shorts for the summer. I'm not going to work Tuesday so I might actually make her a pair of shorts in the morning or tomorrow night. They would only take about 45 minutes.

My checked luggage is nearly all packed. I just need to add socks. Now I need to pack my carry on. I need to upload any photos and make backups so I can erase all my memory cards.

We're going to a birthday party this afternoon and then to my MIL's for dinner because my SIL is coming in today from St Louis.

I better go get some things done!!!

/
Poor Jake, but how cool to have a hidden Mickey hive! I feel awful for saying this but I'm glad it was ONLY hives. As I was reading I was getting nervous that you were going to say that Jessie got run over or chopped up in the fan, or something along those lines.

With Jessie's track record, that would have been a natural assumption!

Marci, Poor Jake,,,bless his heart. not sure why you didn't take a picture of the Hidden Mickey :lmao: :lmao:
Well, I thought about it. But he was Naked, and by the time we got jammie's on, more meds etc. I forgot about it until it was very faint. Then he went to sleep and I didn't want to bother him by pulling up his jammie sleeve. I really wish I had of. He was excited by it as well. Again, it's the little things...

I am delighted that both girls like to travel with us and enjoy spending time with one another. I have to tell you all a funny story about our PhotoPass pictures. My lovely family HATES them! My DDs can turn on those lovely smiles and drop them as soon as the shutter closes. I will have to see if I can find one that really shows that they are BOTH great actors. I think it is probably pretty obvious that Bob is tolerating most of them. But the one at AKL on Christmas night really does look like all four of us, so I had to put it in my siggy.

Marci - do the men in your family eat the same thing you do but in larger portions?

My SIL still does a lot of the cooking for the family. I've mentioned before that she's a SAHM. When she and my brother moved out of my parents' house (they had been staying there while they found a house -- they had previously lived in Tyler, Texas) my Mom told her that they'd pay for the groceries if SIL continued cooking. So, she gets free groceries and people to help clean-up, and we get home-cooked food from 1 to 5 times a week, depending on all of our schedules. She normally has two dishes, and one will be lower in fat. Ex. -- chicken and beef, salmon patties fried and baked etc. Whenever one of us does WW, she will cook WW recipes as the lower fat thing, so I always look for recipes for her and buy cookbooks. It works out great for us, and she likes to eat healthier and enjoys the dishes.

Good Morning DDA

Ken really was a wonderful, caring, and giving person and it showed in the amount of people that turned out, there wasn't enough room for everyone to attend the service.

I'm glad there was a good turn-out, and you got to visit with so many people. I felt the same way about that funeral I went to a couple of weekends ago. It was very bittersweet.

Jake is feeling better, the hives are gone and his temp is way down. His throat still hurts, so we'll watch him close today. No Church for us -- I refuse to share our germs...

Bernadette - I am glad Joe was excited to add to his collection! :goodvibes
Sounds like things are coming together for your trip! :cool1:

Marci - Glad Jake is feeling better!

Debbie - I am sorry for your loss.

We have done pumpkins, corn, green beans, pole beans, tomatoes, parsley, carrots, red beets, rhubarb, mint tea, various varieties of peppers, potatoes, onions, lettuce, strawberries, peas, zucchini, sunflowers, apples, cucumbers, snow peas and I am sure I am missing something. This was while I was growing up, my parents still have a large garden. Then again my Dad grew up on a large farm and loves to garden. My brother and I helped out a lot in the garden. We loved planting things and then watching them grow. Nothing is better then fruit and veggies straight out off the vine.

You need to find out what climate zone you are in. So you know what will grow in your area. Also this will dictate what time to plant different plants. Soil types vary even in nearby areas.

thanks Becky

Ohhhh Noooo Tell Jake a completely commisserate with him. I break out in hives like that every time I get too cold. For me a hot bath and benedryl are the solution and the quicker the bath the quicker they go away. I had hives on my face and neck last night as that was the only skin that was exposed to the windy night. We officially had no temerature here when we arrived home (the outside temp was zero :rotfl: ) It's a blustery 1 now and Chris and Kevin are out cutting a load of logs. I think they're nuts.

What a unique twist on a first dance at a wedding.

Lots of couples are doing that now. Some of the wedding planning shows are showing the dance lessons for it. They are even having the Bride and Bridesmaids do one and the Groom and Groomsmen another and having a little dance competition.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I appreciate them all. :goodvibes Terry will have surgery on Monday and my girlfriend Joey and I will head up there to be with Peggy and Terry. We spent a few hours with them yesterday and Terry seems to be handling everything ok. I know he is scared of the "what if's" but the relief he'll get from the surgery will be completely worth it. The surgery should last an hour or so. As horrible as this sounds, I am so thankful that when I had this it could be control with medicine and I didn't have to go the route he is.

I had a ton quoted and then my stinkin' laptop decided to restart so I lost it all.

A few things that I remember.

Elin- I signed up for the monthly pass. It's $40/month but allows me both online and the meetings. I know a lot of people that will come and just weigh in but not stay for the meetings. I did just the online a few times and as long as I am strict with myself it has worked. I am doing the meetings now because I really want this to be the time I do it and not give up. Plus, I have been able to drag my mom with me and she needs the meetings. She won't stay accountable just doing it online. The plan really is easy and it works!!

Tia- Elizabeth knows me all too well. :rotfl2: You are right in that you need to have time with just you, Terra and Phil. 5 days a week is enough to have other kids in your space but 6 and 7 would just push me over the edge. Sleepovers here are a rare thing only because I feel that I'd never get a chance to just be. Thankfully, the girls' friends are all willing to have them over and their parents understand completely why we don't reciprocate often. Stand your ground because you need to do what's right for the 3 of you.

Marci- Glad to know Jake is better. Sorry about the hives.

Jennifer- :grouphug: for the in-law issues.

Debbie- Love the afghan.

Becky- Thanks for posting that link, I needed a good laugh!!

Deb- Glad you all enjoyed your Disney on Ice show. We are debating between the Ringling Bros and Disney on Ice for Feb/Mar. I think we are leaning towards DOI as it's one we haven't seen. And Bello, the girl's favorite clown, isn't in this circus.

For those I missed, pixiedust: and :grouphug:'s

Off to finish up the cakes.

If you choose Disney on Ice try the promo code "SKATE" We were able to buy 1/2 price tickets for both Boston and Manchester. It only worked for 1/2 price starting at about 2 weeks out.

We are still in the possible summer vacation possibilities mode. We may get annual passes to Six Flags. We have 2 that are about 2 1/2 hours from us and the one in NJ is doable as a weekend trip. If we got a pass to one we could go to all three using the passes. We've looked at campgrouds around the various parks and there are some that look interesting. So now we have 3 ideas out there. Pennsylvania, Ohio or Six Flags. I guess we'll need to see what our tax refund looks like and what Obama's stimulus package provides. At least we have some viable options. If we got six flags passes we could even just do day trips and we could do some of the special events for halloween etc.

Deb,
we got season passes to six flags. we have 2 here in tx. one of them was cheaper then the other for a season pass. So check around on the website first. Also do you use sunshine rewards as they will give you a % back.

Just wait until she hits her big growth spurt. Nick put on 4 pair of jeans yesterday before we found a pair that weren't high waters and he had just got some of them at Christmas and they were fine then :scared: He needs a 30 length now so I need to buy them in the mens dept. I need to check the clearance racks before everything is gone.

We noticed that. We just really need to decide which park we will get too first. If we buy the cheaper passes, but can't get there first then we're out of luck.

Good morning, DDA!! :flower3:

I am freaking out :scared: Craig went from not wanting to go to WDW to now wanting to go in March! :scared1: We're already in the 90 day window, it's too close for my planning. LOL We need to wait for our tax return so we won't be able to book till we get that back, so that will put us about 4-5 weeks out from the actual vacation. :scared1:

Wow, I don't know whether to say congratulations or GET PACKING!!! That is stressful and exciting all in one.

I need to lose 3 lbs this week to make my personal goal for the month. I'm not sure if I can do it in 3 days :scared: I think I might have to...gasp...exercise
