DDA Chapter 17

Good morning. :)

For whatever reason I had a very fitful night. I guess it would have something to do with having 2 kids and a cat in my bed.

There's a review of the American Idol soft opening on Deb's site. Sounds interesting. Unfortunately it doesn't go into how the 'contestants' are chosen or what they get after they win. Remember how you could win actual prizes on Millionaire?

I was wondering this as well. I have been reading that the winner gets an automatic audition at their closest idol audition stop, but seriously? That's brilliant on Disney's part though... fame-seekers will go just for the chance, they put out no money, etc. I, too, wanted to hear that there were other prize options!

Janet and Kristine - has it started to warm up yet?

Well you certainly won't see me up there singing!

I'd totally do it if it was worth my time! But you won't see me auditioning for a show I despise any time soon (or any reality show, for that matter!) :rotfl:

I made it home safe last night but not without incident. I had one of those zoned out times. I swear I looked in my blind spot but missed seeing a car. I was merging into the left lane and heard honking. I immediately went back into my lane. I felt quite bad that I missed him. Well, the other driver had a serious case of road rage. He pulled in front of me and slowed down to 5 miles below the speed limit. He blocked me in so I couldn't pass him. He kept cutting me off if I tried to pass. He missed my car by a few inches two different times. That was when I decided to call 911. I gave them his license plate. I also slowed way down so he knew I was going to stop trying to get around him. He finally just took off after about 15-20 minutes. I caught back up with him about 1/2 hour later but about 5 minutes after that, he pulled off the expressway.
What a jerk! Were the police receptive to your call? I hope they catch up to him! My friend witnessed a guy driving in excess of 90mph while reading a porn magazine last week. The State Police were very receptive to her call but she doesn't know if they got him.

Elizabeth----Come to the dark side of home ownership!!!!!! :lmao:
And she thinks a dSLR is a money pit.:rotfl2:

Elizabeth-I couldn't help but think of you when the news was saying what a great time it is to be looking for a house-they think Obama will announce 1st time home owner incentives so I would stay open to the idea if I were you.

Okay, I want to be young enough to wear that Tink dress!!! ;) :goodvibes
Who says you aren't???????

Their was a set of Quints born at my hospital today.
How are they doing?

Bernadette - I hope you and Lizzy have a magical trip, I'm going to miss seeing you this year.
Thanks! I'll miss you too. How about May? I'm really excited about this trip but am not ready. I really need this 3 day weekend!

Off to the Farm Show today. Maple cotton candy, yummy baked potatoes, apples, lamb stew, fried vegetables and the bestest milkshakes. :woohoo:
Have fun!

I have no interest in this. I'm glad AP previews are after our trip-hopefully Lizzy won't see any soft openings.

Was there more info in the DVC magazine article? I have read different things and I can't remember what was from Disney and what was just rumor/speculation.
I know I read here on the DIS that the auditions take place "back stage" so the really AWFUL people get weeded out. That takes the fun out of it for me. I have no interest in sitting around listening to decent amateur singers on my vacation. :confused3
I did read that the "prize" is an audition for the show in the nearest city to your home. BUT you have to meet all of the requirements as far as age and whatever. Isn't the cut-off something like 30? It was 25, but they upped it.

Bernadette - Apparently there is a $7500 tax credit for first time home buyers, BUT you have to pay it back over 15 years. There is speculation that they might decide you don't have to pay it back. We'll see. The mortgage guy said the credit (whether you have to repay it or not) is only valid until July 1. Our lease expires July 1, so it is another piece of the equation.
I have Joe's quarters all set to go in the mail. I will let you know when they are actually on the way. :)

Bernadette - Oh, yes, the money pit.
The houses we are looking at were built in the 1950's. Some of them have been updated pretty well. Some I have seen online have NOT. :scared: That's another reason I almost think we might prefer to lease. It would be REALLY BAD to get into a house and have things start going wrong one after the other. That happened to my exBosses, and that house had been completely redone. Everything was new inside, but something was always broken.

This sounds like great news for DD, they had a closing date of Jan. 30th, but are still haggling about the cost, the seller has asked for another $2000.00, hopefully they will get all their ducks in a row, DSIL's Aunt is their realtor so I'm sure she'll look out for their best interest.

Good morning, DDA! :sunny:

It was ONE when I woke up this morning. Windchill was -1. :sad2: It is all the way up to 12 now! :thumbsup2

Definitely the downside of home ownership, you can't call the landlord when something breaks, and things always break.

I hope they get it all worked out soon! pixiedust: I am sure they will be able to take that credit, and even if they do have to repay it, it is $500 per year over 15 years instead of some big lump sum.

So if we buy a house paying what we pay in rent now and something breaks, we would end up putting the repair on a credit card. If we had several big repairs in a short span of time we could be in big trouble. I have signed plenty of repair invoices for my bosses over the years so I know how scary those costs can be. :scared:

Hi everyone! It's been a long time! I'll try to keep up but don't know how well I'll do ;)

Let's see, what's been going on. I'm still working at the church as bookkeeper. Our server crashed and we lost 2.5 years of data. Even the software company checked it out and what was supposed to be the most current info was only from 04, so at least the backup I had was from 06, so I've been working about 3/4 time and full time being Mom's taxi. Craig's still commuting about 100 miles a day and when the gas prices were so high, he started taking the bus which added on an additional 2.5 hours to his day so the girls hardly saw him at all. Now he's back to driving, so that's a good thing. Kaelyn is 14 and in 8th grade. She's involved in band and colorguard and her friends. She's somehow hurt her forearm and is currently in a sling. Stephanie is 7 and in 1st grade and involved in soccer, basketball and now maybe TaeKwonDo.

We went to DL last March because Craig had to take a class in Anaheim and his work paid for hotel and some of the gas. This year we're getting back a decent tax return and I wanted to go to WDW, since Craig & I didn't get to take the trip for our 15th anniversary last year, but Craig's being all practical saying we should pay off some bills. The real killer is the airfare!

Kelli! Good to hear from you! :wave2: It has been a long time! I definitely think a trip to WDW is in order. Those bills aren't going away - they will be there for you to pay when you get back! :rotfl2:
