DDA Chapter 17

One of the moms in my 9:30 class called and is not planning to come into town because their roads are still ice-covered. Since she has 1/3 of the class roster in her van I canceled that class.

When I called my first two adult students in my second class they also opted to stay put this morning so my decision was easier to make than I thought it would be.

Now I have to watch the temperature (it is still 32 here) to see if it rises enough to start the melting they have been promising. Then I will make the decision about my 1:00 class. After that all decisions about closing the school will be firmly in the hands of my boss!

If it helps in your decision making, everything was fine this morning: my subdivision, 218, chatham heights. Even puddles that I saw along the roads were just water, not ice.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Snow day for us! It looks to be about 2-3 inches, plus ice on top of it..im planning on staying in all day! Its like a sick day i didnt have to take :)

The storm hasn't fully hit. We only have an inch or two now, but the estimates have gone up considerably. We are now expected to get 16 to 20 inches. I layed in bed from 5 o'clock on this morning waiting for the call that school was cancelled. Turns out they called at 9 PM last night and Chris didn't get to the phone in time so all he got was a hang up. Did he mention a hang up from a 436 number :confused3 Nope, not even when I asked if we'd gotten a call last night. He finally remembered at 6:15 this morning. Of course I checked caller ID and it was the school. I called and got the cancellation message that I could have had last night :headache: :furious: Snowboarding was also cancelled, but not until 8:20 this morning. So we are in for the day. Actually Chris just came in as no one is bringing their cars in so there is no work. He'll make more money if he takes a day off.

Well, they've changed our forecast, but I'm not sure if it's better or worse!

We ended up with about 8 inches of snow yesterday, before the ice came (and packed it all down).

Then we got (so far) about 0.6 inches of ice. The ice was supposed to turn into other wintery crap by 4am, but it hasn't yet.. They expect it to continue to fall until it warms up, hopefully not more than another hour. We probably will hit that 1" of ice - they are calling backyards and driveways skating rinks, which is pretty accurate!

The "good" news is that, because the ice is falling hours longer than it was supposed to, we should only get 3 inches of snow on top when the system changes this morning, rather than the 6 more that we were supposed to! :rotfl:

Yuck yuck yuck. I hope the roads are clear(ish) by the time Kyle is driving home. I'm slightly nervous as it is when he's driving home after 35 hours working and not a wink of sleep. If he's on the road for hours, hitting ice and driving defensively between Cincinnati idiots that can't drive in any sort of precipitation, I'll really be concerned! :sad2:

Vote for my Snow Babies! :-P

We don't win anything, but they could be on the 6:00 news! (Guess who's procrastinating again? :teeth:)

Good Morning,

Sounds like everyone is dealing with some rough weather.

I'm sitting here waiting on my pain meds to kick in, thanks to my irrational fear of the dentist I am now minus a tooth.

Snow day here as well!
We got mostly sleet last night, but around 5:30 this morning it started to snow and hasn't stopped.

The Columbus station is saying that planes are not taking off, and some people have been on a plane for 3 hrs. waiting to take off.:scared:

I hope by next Wed. we won't have that problem.
Our flight leaves at 6:45 a.m. so we won't have much sleep the night before anyways. It can snow all it wants once we leave. Less missed school for Leighanna!

Stay safe everyone. I think I am going to pack as much stuff in my suitcase that I can today since I won't be leaving the house anyway!

Jennifer, I voted!

Can someone please PM me Chanon's work email. TIA.

That's what I thought you were going to say :) Since they came home from the hospital, Elise has very often sparked the comment about being an "old soul". Never has Avery, but that's her on the left. They'll already play tricks on you, I tell ya'! Never too early to start, apparently ;)

Jennifer - my twins would switch personalities every few months. It was so frustrating for me, as I would just get used to them one way, and then it would flip flop! Things seem to be settling down somewhat now. Of course, now that I've said it, they'll change again.

I think I've told you before that we live in "twinland." On our street alone there are 3 sets of twins, and another 2 sets in the next street over. All the twin moms I've spoken to, say that this is really common.

I do to, but not when it is this cold. The only time I do not have socks on in the winter is when I am taking a shower lol

Riley goes in bare feet & I get cold just looking at him :cold:

I hate socks too....but I haven't been able to keep myself warm at all this winter, so the socks are on about half the time.

Debbie -- I'm sorry about your tooth. I hope the meds help.

Jen -- the pictures of the girls are so cute.

Elizabeth -- I hope your DH stays safe today. Some of the city seems impassable, while other parts seem fairly clear. Stay safe!

Deb -- how are you feeling?

Shelton is closed again today, and I can't get in, so I'm here working. The boys are fighting quite a bit, so I'm glad Randy can't go in yet, as he can play referee while I get as much work done as I can. :rotfl:

and... oh my...

I think this is a good place for me to stop for the night. I am falling asleep and 20,000 is such a nice round number... Good night everyone.

Congratulations!!

Morning DDA! Weather here s u c k s. It hasn't stopped snowing since last night it seems. We shouldn't even be at work. I bet you anything that no one comes in the office today. I just want to go home and pack and have Bob decide he's driving to MI in his GMC instead of me and my Focus.

Oh my!!!pixiedust: (I use this guy because I am a slacker) that Kyle is able to come home in safer driving conditions.

I will say we don't usually get icing so I would have no clue how to react to that.

We got sleet or freezing rain yesterday evening and overnight. All the schools around here are closed, but we had today off anyway for a teacher workday. I'm going to venture into work. Need to save my leave for summer!

hope it was an easy drive.

You drive in the ice like this:
Hope your card doesn't slide into anything. That's all! :rotfl2:

That's exactly right! There are "tips" about steering if you start to slide, etc... but it's mostly crap. You can't avoid the ice, but if it makes you start to slip, you just hold on and hope you avoid everything (and everyone avoids you)! Blech!

He's on his way home now...
