Hi Everyone. I just found this board, I have been at Dis for awhile, but JUST got the idea to design shirts for our trip in OCT :). This board is awesome! I can't believe all the great things around here!!

We had a traditional early 90's wedding. I was given a shower with just the girls. Very uneventful, cake gifts and silly games. Chris had a bachelor party. They threw it at our house and there was a stripper. I think there were probably 40 or so guys there, his friends from high school, college and his co workers. They all consumed too much alcohol and the stripper was there for much longer than they expected, but she was making great money from what I heard. We had many guys stay the night. I came home and heard all about it. Heck, they still talk about it when they get together. It was harmless fun (I saw the stripper and the bouncer, no touching allowed :thumbsup2 ) We had a groom's dinner which in our case was an outside bbq for the wedding party and their families. My MIL threw it at her apartment. It was very nice and it was what she could afford. We had a church wedding followed by a reception in a hall with a chicken dinner and dj. It was a lot of fun, but again it was affordable. We had a post reception reception at my parent's house. My mother had an entire buffet there with other desserts. She and my family did all the food themselves. They have a pool so between the pool and the food and beverages everyone was quite happy. I think 80% of our wedding guests were still at my parent's at 11 PM and the wedding was at 11 AM. It was a really good time and while nothing was extravagant it was exactly what we wanted.

I have always believed that if you are on welfare, you should be put on forced birth control. This is both men & women and it should be a shot that works for a month. As long as you stay on the birth control, you get your welfare. The other side says "That takes away my civil liberties!" And I say "No, you give up your civil liberty for bearing children while you can't take care of yourself and any children you bring in the world! As long as I have to help support you, I have a say in it."

I so agree with this. and with what Elizabeth said. I also hate that Medicaid will make women that want their tubes tide wait till they are 21.

Hello

OMG. Chris and I LOVE your new signature picture. They are so cute I could just eat them up. They almost make me want another baby...almost ;)

That is a great idea. I for one whole heartedly support that. Would that make such a great difference in our world. People that wanted children would actually have to get off their butts and support themselves  Vicki you should run for president :thumbsup2

I agree with Deb I love your signature Jen

Ditto

I'm actually glad to hear that clarified. I guess I just made excuses for "them" and "us", touting that it must just be "different". They actually probably have more money than my family did, so I know it's not about that.... I guess it really is SOLELY about personal preference. I just have never met as many people as those in Kyle's extended family, that think a wedding is as joke-worthy as they do. :confused3 I just grew up assuming everybody wanted SOMETHING resembling a fairy-tale wedding, even if it wasn't the same level of "fancy" or "frilly" as someone else's, you know? Apparently I'm wrong. Not the first time... :)

Then again, everyone I know thought we were crazy for not drinking. We wanted to remember our wedding and reception, which is apparently also not normal

I have always been kind of "different" from most people on that. I love parties but the idea of getting wasted just never appealed to me - especially at my wedding. I was usually the odd man out growing up because of this. I also never understood the whole embarassing other people thing - like smashing a piece of cake in the face.

I especially felt like an odd duck in high school and college. That has been a problem for my daughters as well.

Wow, what an interesting group of girls. I've never heard of Daytona themed pre wedding events unless the bride and groom were advide bikers. I can only imagine the outfits for that one.

Yeah... and you can bet this prude will be something of a party pooper! ;)

I'd love a bike. I love riding. I ride, however, in jeans (because my grandparents instilled the fear of God in me about getting burned) and a weather-appropriate top. Not a bikini or crotchless chaps ;)

But it was meaningful! And you remember it! :rotfl:

My brother has always laughed at me and called me the "old woman"--I mean, i like going out for a couple of drinks but usually thats it (especially since usually im the driver!) Ive only gotten really drunk a couple of times and I cant stand the next morning--so I am not into the getting so drunk you dont remember things every weekend

We could have been good friends in "real life" too, I imagine, if you were closer! :thumbsup2

I have never been drunk. Probably because I really don't like the taste of alchol. I did not drink at my wedding. Mine was also very princessy I had a bachlorette party it was just, a few girls playing silly games.

Thank you all for the hugs :goodvibes

As hard as it may be, I am 99% sure we won't be going. We will lose out on the airfare though unless Airtran changes our flights drastically & I doubt that will happen.

I knew money was tight with all the remodeling going on, but with the 4/3 deal I thought we could make it happen. It just seems like one thing after the other has been happening lately. I know this is the responsible thing to do, but it still makes me feel defeated.
Hang in there Janet. :goodvibes :goodvibes I'm really sorry you are going through this. The economy is very shaking right about now...

So it appears that the economy woes have hit close to home with us also. My company has decided that it is necessary to reduce the number of full time employees in each store, part of this decision will take my position and HR and combine the two. This is a really bad move on their part, but they are looking at numbers and not practicality.

Now, I have 22 years experience, have actually done both jobs while the other girl has only 6 years and has only done the one position. I consider her a friend but under the circumstances I'm afraid I'll have to pull rank and insist that I keep my status, I'm not going to give up my benefits, personal time and vacation time.

So if you could add me to the Pixie Dust list I would appreciate it, I'm actually not supposed to know about this yet and she doesn't know, so maybe they will work something out.
Oh Debbie, here you go. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I would do the same thing too.

The battery died in Gary's Jimmy & there is something wrong with the left front side(I guess it is shaking bad). I had to give a urine sample at the hospital today. I thought whatever I had was gone, but nope. So we will see what the results say. Plus I have my dental issues going on.

This all is taking money that I was not planning on be taken. So Gary & I will unfortunately be discussing whether the March trip is a good idea or not.

So not a happy day in the Corbin household today :sad2:
More bad news.   :wizard: for a miracle that it will still happen. If not, remember, it will eventually get better.

I didn't know that.....the majority of Kmart's around here went out of business a number of years ago.....

I wonder if any of the retailers are doing ok
We still have one left, and I HATE it. I always swear that I won't go back, but a sale add will come. The add makes the store look so nice, and in it I find what appears to be a good deal. So I get suckered into going into the store, then I remember why I hate it! You can NEVER find help. If you do find someone to ask a question, they don't know the answer. The last time I was in there, which was last year before Christmas, they had Webkinz adverstised in their flyer. I couldn't find them. I talked to 2 separate workers, asking where the Webkinz were. Neither knew what they were! Even the manager! Now mind you, this was not a national flyer that went out in the mail or paper. This was a zeroxed flyer that they handed out at the door as people went into the store! It's just poorly managed. Debbie, want to come take over our store?

speaking of seek and destroy...did you know that Walgreen's strategy is to find towns with small but established local pharmacies....then they open nearby and destroy the little guy....
We don't have any local Walgreen's, but one recently went up where I work. Our chains are CVS and Rite Aid. I can only think of one local mom/pop type pharmacy.

I'm sorry to hear this.

I usually choose a different (but similar) adjective for myself, "lumpy" :rotfl:
Jennifer, I LOVE your new sig. Sorry about all the trouble at PI.

And if there is any DDA pixiedust remaining, I could use a little. Rumor has it that IBM will be cutting 16,000 world-wide around Jan 23rd. We haven't heard anything specific, so I'm trying not to panic too much (and yet still panicking!). This is one time, I wish we weren't single-income.
You got it!!!:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

It's been a long day here. The kids are all taking turns being my least favorite!

Happy Birthday Tammi!!!
Thanks, Vicki!

Sorry Kristine....my voice is gone from yelling. Everyone has lost tv, pc, & video games for a week. I feel like I am going to lose my mind sometimes.
Now YOU'LL have to entertain them! Or else all they'll do is fuss with each other!

scraplifting!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAMMI
Thanks, Terry!

Tammi - Happy Birthday!!! Your 26 right?
Absolutely!

;)

Prayers needed for Chuck's mom. She is in the hospital again. It sounds like her meds messed up her system. She will be coming home Friday or Saturday. Chuck is going to go stay overnight with her at least her first night home.

Since I have to head back down here on Sunday and wouldn't get home until Friday night (when Chuck would be gone anyway), I'm just going to stay down here for the week-end. I might go see my mother on Saturday and spend the day with her as she'll be at my aunt's house which is only a couple of hours from here.
I'm sorry to hear this, Vicki. :wizard: :wizard: I hope the drs. get everything straightened out, and quickly.

So the bridesmaid dress was just the beginning of the fun, it would seem!

I had to create a folder/filter in my inbox because I get LITERALLY 35+ emails per day from girls in the wedding party (there are only 6 of us!), going back and forth about themes for various parties, showers, etc that will supposedly happen between now and August (the wedding). The latest and greatest ideas are to recreate Daytona Beach Bike Week (and not the look at really cool Harleys part of it...), or to do a Drinking Olympics.

Am I the oldest 25 year old on the planet?! Or just, more um..... suburban? Traditional? Classy? :snooty: :rotfl:

The maid of honor, who is spear-heading all of this, is married with 3 children.

Anyone else think that's weird? I feel like a bit of a prude, and I assure that's a first

It just seems that, for me anyway, wedding planning was a very different experience than when I planned sorority events. And my SIL was never within 40 miles of a sorority event. Heck, my sorority events were classier than some of the shenanigans they're hoping to plan, and this is a wedding! :scared:

ETA: (Did I just say shenanigans? I AM old! :rotfl:)
All of the above? BTW, I wouldn't find any of that fun either. But then again, I am 42. ;)

Love this one!

Eh... I don't know, it's weird. I'm not against partying. I LOVED theme parties, etc in college. But in college, not associated with my wedding.

I've been told on dozens of occasions that I should go into wedding/event planning. The sources have something, in that I would LOVE it and I think I have just the personality for the planning part.... but Kyle has pointed out on numerous occasions that I would have a heart attack if people requested some of the stuff we've seen at various weddings (namely, um, with his family :rolleyes1 )

I know that it's not at all important what I think, and that's it's so not my wedding.... but I just get a little (toned down) Bree Van DeKamp streak when I think about some of these things! It would drive me nuts, and I just wouldn't be able to "put my name" on it. I guess I'd just have to be choosy about my clients, which is not a great business model! :rotfl:
I was told that too, when I planned my wedding, and even considered it. But I knew that if someone didn't want to do what I thought they should do, I just wouldn't be able to handle it. :rotfl2: Know thyself. ;)
