DDA Chapter 14

So, is everyone else's holiday calendar filling up quickly? I was just updating ours and after adding all of the stuff we talked about over the weekend ours is getting packed. I have this weekend pretty open and then one Saturday in Dec (for now anyway), but otherwise the weekends are pretty full, plus a few weekdays on top of that. At least it's mostly fun stuff!

I completely agree! A friend and I were trying to figure out playgroup stuff, and I just don't have any free days with all of the holiday stuff we want to do! Like you said though, it's generally fun stuff! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad it looks like Phil will join you on your trip!

And now my crazy brain goes in to overdrive...It will cost my $50 for us to park hop on our 1 day at DL. It will be crazy crowded and we'll have to work to fit everything we want to do in. Yet, I can't help considering the hopper so that we can do Toy Story Mania, Soarin, maybe Playhouse Disney, and (most importantly) The Main Street Electrical parade. Sooo tempted by that parade as it's been 3 years since I saw it last and I've always loved it. It's my tipping point and I don't know where it's going to tip yet. :confused3

Oooo, speaking of playgroups... I'm really excited about our old one! It looks like another old playgroup friend will be in SoCal for Christmas too and now we're organizing a playgroup part for that week. We'll be one short as she's in Colorado now, but otherwise it looks like most of the originals will be there plus the kids will be off of school so they'll be there too!

And it looks like he is! He called his parents to let them know our schedule and by the time he finished talking to his dad he was going. Guess Dad guilted him into it or at the minimum pressured him too. I guess we're just going to take the chance that he'll be off on the 26th or have him push to be so. He won't fly in until Christmas morning as the options are 10pm Christmas Eve or 10am Christmas morning and a significant price difference, but that makes it easier to figure out where he stays overnight as well. He was being grumpy about it, but I pointed out that it was going to make his daughter very happy so that should help.

:cool1:

Yes and I REALLY need to get it all written down before I over schedule us!

Sounds like fun!

Vicki or anyone else that may have saved it- I am looking for your Banana Bread recipe. I know I saved it but for the life of me cannot find it on my computer anywhere. Thanks

Robyn - Nope, she didn't call me back last night. It was 8:20 PM when I got her message though, so maybe she will call me this morning. :confused3

Oo! I just made this yesterday (and both loaves are already almost gone). Let me grab the recipe.

Great Aunt Bess' Banana Bread

Mix:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 beaten eggs
4 T milk
dash salt

Add:
3 soft bananas
1 t baking soda
2 cups flour
1 pkg chopped nuts (optional)

Line bread tins with aluminum foil and pour in mixture 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Depending on size of bananas, baking time might be longer. It is done when toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Makes one large loaf.

Tia note: I have made it on different occassions using butter or oil in place of the shortening and it is really good with those as well.

Thank you!!! I am gathering ideas/recipes for gift baskets for us to give out at Christmas. I figured I can make them ahead and then freeze.

I have a really yummy pumpkin muffin recipe that might work for that as well, if you're interested.

other than umpteen concerts (band and choir) my holidays are purposely very uncalendared...because my job sucks all the life of me.....starting about now!

Sure!!

That should round it out then. I've got white chocolate covered popcorn, white chocolate cranberry chip cookies, the banana bread and the pumpkin muffins. Hmm, I think I need something chocolately!

Well, after a minor scare last night after losing one of my fares, it popped back up this morning on the third try. So, we are now officially ticketed for CA at Christmas. Even better, we get to fly into Santa Ana which means my friend can pick us up and we don't have to worry about shuttles, etc. So we'll head out there Dec 21 and come back the 26th. I think we'll hit DL on the 22nd. I know it's going to be crazy busy, but it's a must do after all. We'll stay with my best friend and spend Christmas Day with Phil's family. Now if we can just work it out so that Phil actually gets to be there on Christmas Day as well.

That is terrific news!

Glynis -- I hope Mary is feeling better today and that no one else gets it.

Kristine -- that is terrible news about that family.

Amy - cute pictures!

Randy didn't get in until 2:30 this morning, and had to go back to the printing place. It has to be turned in to the SEC today, so I know he'll be finished at some point. Jake's soccer game was rained out yesterday, and no word on when it will be rescheduled. I'm hoping it will be tomorrow night, as our Saturday is already busy and it's supposed to get colder here.

Have a great day everyone!

I understand that too. Erin is the marketing manager for her Chick Fil A. Starting about now, her schedule will slowly start increasing until she's working about 60 hours during the height of Christmas season. That's actually why we did the calendar on Sunday...so that she could have a few times set where she could just say "nope, I'm busy" instead of feeling like she needed to be the one to work the 7th shift of the week or stay for the 14th hours of the day. I hope you get some fun stuff worked in.

How about those Oreo truffle balls that were posted here last year. Everyone around here LOVES them! They are very chocolatey and something a little different from the norm.

Here's the pumpkin muffin recipe. I'm sure you could do it as loaves as well if that fit your needs better.

Pumpkin muffins

3 1/2 cups flour
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 eggs
1 cup oil
2/3 cup water
2 cups pumpkin (I just use one regular size can even though it's a little less than 2 cups)
Nuts optional

Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

They're very moist and yummy!

Which printer are they using?

Thanks!! I think I will make those oreo truffles, they're easy and tasty!!

Well, I had better get to work. I think I've exhausted my excuses for sitting at the computer. Oh yeah, and I'm supposed to be having a pajama party with Terra as soon as Imagination Movers is over. Catch ya later.
