I wanna see family pictures1!!

We didn't spend the extra money on "Smiles by Wire" this time (where they email the link to all your proofs), so I'll scan in the family pictures when we pick them up (10/24). They aren't great

does that mean you are volunteering to fond me this dang cake??!! :rotfl2:

I knew they were the same company - if you want to franchise either one you call a central number. We have stand alone Baskin Robbins and we are seeing an increase in stand alone Dunkin' Donuts. Our Baskin Robbins seem to be owned by Asian families, but they all speak English quite well.

It's a good thing it's only an elementary school with no sports team. Screaming "Go Lighthouses Go" sounds pretty lame.

Tammi, I like your kids' elementary tagline. Ours is "Ride the Tide of Riviera Beach Pride"

Aww, see I totally thought that's what they would do! :rotfl:

Jennifer, do you mean zone instead of district?
We have 5 (I think) elementaries that feed into the middle school, then everybody from our middle school goes on to the same high school unless they transfer to a magnet school.
But even schools in the same zone or feeder pattern have different mascots.

Hmm.... we don't have "zones", so I'm not sure how the terms correlate!

In a lot of places the entire county is a school district, so there are a lot of schools, so they have more mascots. In my county there are 18 school districts. Each with varying numbers of schools. They vary extremely geographically as well. Some are like a square mile others are over 150 square miles.

Some districts have only 1 elementary, 1 Middle, and 1 High School. Others have 14 elementary, 4 middle, 1 High, plus 3 themed gateway schools.

For the most part each of these districts have one mascot. Trojans, Bulldogs, Spartans, Scouts, Red Knights, etc So Reading Red Knights, Wilson Bull Dogs, etc. The elementary, Middle/Jr High, High, etc all refer to themselves as the district mascot even though you might have lots of different school names. So Conrad Weiser East Scouts. Conrad Weiser High Scouts, etc.

Some of the schools I have worked with have quite interesting mascots; Slaters, Koncrete Kids, Bullets

It is one thing I have found that definitely varies from place to place.

This is how ours is, too. Each of our counties have SEVERAL districts... I can't even tell you how many. Each of the districts is set up a bit differently, but most of them are how you have described... where no matter how many different buildings they have, they are always one mascot.

The reason I brought it up is, as an example, growing up I would go to "Mason Comets" football games my entire childhood/adolescence. I had "Mason Comets" sweatshirts and rooted for the Comets -- both for my peers in 6th grade games, and with my community for the high school. It seems so odd to me that my girls (if we would still be here, which we really won't... so it's a non-issue :rotfl:) could be Eagles for a year or two, then Rockets, then Thunderbirds, then Firehawks, then God knows what else.

I wonder if it's just a regional thing, considering all but one outlier for most of the state, as far as I know, does things in what I thought was the "normal" way :rotfl:

Yes... that's totally weird to me, but obviously I'm the "different" one :rotfl:

The district I grew up in has several elementary schools - each serving a different grade or grades, and then the 'middle school campus' is divided into 4 different schools (5th grade, 6th grade and so on)... then there's the freshman building and the high school. Everyone is a comet.

The district we live in currently though, is apparently like the rest of yours. Each of the elementary schools (a dozen+), middle schools (about 5 of them), and high schools (2 + 2 freshman campuses) all have their own individual mascot -- so there are dozens of them, even though they are all the "Lakota Local School District".

Hmm.... we don't have "zones", so I'm not sure how the terms correlate!

MIL called last night to tell us that dh's sister's dh was in a car accident. The other driver fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into the passenger side of the truck in which he was riding. Both drivers walked away, but it took 45 minutes for the emergency crews to extricate him, and he was then lifeflighted up to Syracuse. He is still in ICU, though he is stable. They are deciding what to do about the completely smashed knee, and he has multiple fractures (ribs, pelvis, arm, leg) on his right side.

This came right after a friend called to tell me about her friend whose dh was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic by a 17 year old girl who was texting while driving. They lost their 9 year old dd in the accident, and the husband does not currently remember the last ~20 years of his life. He doesn't remember the dd at all or his wife. He keeps asking for his parents who have been dead for almost 15 years.

Sometimes I don't think we remember what our cars are capable of.

I'm so sorry. PD and prayers for everyone involved.

I did call the doctor for my test results. PAP and echocardiogram were completely normal. The mammogram shows a "benign-appearing density" in the right breast. They and the radiologist both recommend a repeat mammogram in 6 months but don't think it's anything to investigate further at this point. I sure hope they are right.

If there was any doubt, they'd have you back in quickly. It sounds like they are just watching something to make sure it doesn't develop in to something.

Still nothing new to report. I was at the scene/command post all day today, trying to feel/be useful. At this point, the outcome is not going to be good.

That is just terrible.

Robyn -- it sounds like Eric definitely appreciates your work more now. :thumbsup2

Jennifer- that is terrific news about Virginia's check-up.

Jen -- I'm glad the conferences are going well!

Amy -- love your newest pictures. It's great to FINALLY see Noah in your sig... :rotfl:

Cute pictures! I hope he has a great time!

That's pitiful! :rotfl:

All of you that have been posting ... did you change districts/schools between Elemntary, Junior High and High School? Kyle and I were JUST talking about this concept.... the district we live in is the only one (I think) around here where the mascots changed based on the building you are in, instead of staying the same in the district. We thought it would be strange to change mascots so frequently (unless you were changing school districts entirely).... feeling like it might even cause (minor) discordance in school spirit or something throughout the community

But it seems to be very common, at least on the thread.... :confused3

We are in a small town, but all schools have the lion as the mascot. By the time I was in high school, I had tons of lions of all kinds, including jewelry, clothes, stuffies etc. I loved having the same one. The boys is a charger, which is cool because it looks like the one that I had in college.

Glynis -- I'm sending lots of prayers to you and your family.

I am a Great Aunt again! I went to the hospital earlier to meet my new niece, she is so tiny & sweet :goodvibes I wanted to bring her home with me ::yes::

Congrats--she is so cute!

Our state is divided into counties/city and then each county has it's own school district.

We also have counties/cities. For the most part, each "city" has it's own district. In some cases a couple of cities might share a district if they are less populous. For the most part though a "district" usually correlates with a "city"

(ie City of Mason = Mason City Schools and city of Lebanon = Lebanon Schools, both in Warren County; West Chester and surrounding townships = Lakota Local School District, Fairfield City Schools, etc in Butler County and so on)

(Cincinnati Public Schools is a WHOLE different monster.... I won't even go there. I don't know how many schools, some of which sharing mascots, some not... I don't even know where to begin :upsidedow )

Thanks for the smile, Janet. The circle of life continues. Love those fingers!

does that mean you are volunteering to fond me this dang cake??!! :rotfl2:

Sure! Want me to eat it for you, too?

Hmm.... we don't have "zones", so I'm not sure how the terms correlate!

Our district (Dallas ISD) is HUGE. Depending on where you live in the district you have a Zone. The zones are then broken down further to determine which school the kids have to attend.

very cute Janet!!!

She is so sweet! Congrats! :goodvibes

what, I thought she'd drive up....cooler with dry ice in hand

Um, no. But you are welcome to drive down with your cooler and pack up whatever I haven't consumed by the time you get here!! :rotfl2:

See, this is my sentiments exactly! :goodvibes I'm sure there are reasons bigger than sports mascots for dividing districts the way they choose to, but to me it invokes so much more unity and school spirit if it stays the same!
