DDA Chapter 12

Glynis, I love, love, love my job! It is just wonderful, the other nurses and docs are sooooo nice and helpful. It's been wild so far (already had 2 babies crash and go critical on me during my shift), so I am learning a ton and using my brain cells again. I know I made the right decision, and it is definitley the job for me. :thumbsup2

Denise, I'm so happy to hear that YOU are so happy! I'm sure you are such a wonderful NICU nurse! :goodvibes

I was bummed because I forgot we can't make ADR's yet. I have to wait because you can't make them for the week we are there yet because of the upgrade. I'll have to make some tentative plans and be one of those crazy people calling when they open the morning that they are available again (anyone recognize themself in this statement :rotfl: )

Good, so my incessant complaining on here hasn't been too obvious or annoying, at least if you didn't notice it! I'm calling on that day too (you know it got moved to November now, instead of October, right? So even MORE people will be eligible to call the same day :headache:  ) I'm really quite bitter about it :rolleyes1 but I'll be calling!

Question, do you prefer a gas or electric stove? We have gas right now, but are thinking about buying a electric one. There is a black one at Lowes marked down to $225 & I am just not sure what to do.

I prefer electric. If you're making a fabulous meal, gas is definitely better to cook on, in any situation. It's a bit finnicky though, so for every day cooking I prefer my glass top electric :thumbsup2

I came home to the oddest answering machine message tonight. It was CRO calling about our AKL CL reservations in December. They wanted to inform us that the price of our package had gone down and that they would be sending out a new confirmation by snail mail. The CM who called wanted to reassure me that our reservation number would remain the same. The total amount is lower, by about $45. :confused3

Odd, but extra Disney cash! :teeth: Have a marvelous time!

Question for the Day...

If you had to chose a location for a vacation other than anywhere Disney related, where would you chose and why?

I'm brainstorming ideas for our vacation next summer and I found myself wondering where you all would chose and why. Maybe it will help me spark interest in somewhere other than Disney.

In Europe, Spain. Well, we'd probably go to Italy first becuase Kyle has never been and I'd love to go back, but I definitely want to get to Spain.

Otherwise, DEFINITELY a cruise, especially a Southern Caribbean trip (instead of Bahamian)! But only on certain lines. :rotfl:

Domestically, I'd love to do a road trip along historic Route 66 and find more gems like Ted Drewes! :cloud9:

We're just hanging around the hotel this morning (Kyle's skipping the entire day of conferences :rolleyes1 ) until check-out time. Then we'll hit the parks, etc before heading home.

Kyle still has to be on overnight call tonight, after driving 6 hours, so please say a quick prayer for him... it's going to be a long night! He also has his Step 3 exams on Monday and Tuesday. He's not prepared at all, and it's SO important -- both for his licensure and so he can moonlight, or I'll have to go back to work FT while someone else gets the girls all week. :guilty: I'm really nervous for him, but he seems to be in denial. I think it's going to be a long 5 days for all of us....

But enough of being bummed out. I'm off to enjoy the last bit of our 'getaway'!

Make it a great day!

no aid..at least not now

Morning all

Jen,,,Keep good notes on this child so if you do have problems, the notes will help with your request for an aid. If you have witnesses, make sure they know you might be needing their input in the matter.

Jennifer :wizard: for Kyles exams, enjoy the rest of your day!

Marci glad to hear some of the home repairs are being taken care, good luck with the carpet estimate!

I have a hold on a cruise for Oct 20 -24. Rooms are just $99 :cool1: :cool1: I'm just waiting for my mother to get back to me on whether she wants to go or not. My brother and dad will be on a hunting trip at that time. :cool1: :cool1: I can't stand the waiting. The only thing that would be better would be a DING

Anne Marie - I think my friend, Anna Mary, said that Cary was a great place to live. And the schools were good. Maybe check into what makes them move your children to other schools and see if you can get around that. Do they provide transportation if they move the kids?
Yes they bus the kids so driving is not a problem. Right now Daniel is on a bus 1 hr in the morning & 1 hour 35 minutes coming home so we are tired of this sernario already..didn;t want to have all 3 doing that. I am glad to hear the schools are good..thats what I have been seeing in my research...I like what they call CARY (collection area for relocating yankees!):lmao: Sounds like my kinda place! ;) :rotfl:

We have that here in Northern VA, where I work. They have to make sure all cultures are equally represented. They, whoever 'they' are, decide that there is too much of one ethnicity at a school, so they draw school boundaries to make the schools 'balanced'. I'm trying to be VERY politically correct here, so I best not say anything further so as not to offend anyone.

Congrats to Sophie!
Thanks! Sheesh on the schools..we do not have that here on LI. You go to school where you live.

Yay!!! What cruise??? How cool!

Marci,
No, no housing like that is provided but they do give him an allowance for an extended stay hotel. We'll see what path we take when we go in mid October...hopefully the place will wow me.

Awesome, more details please!

Is this RCCL?? The four night Bahamas out of Miami??

ETA - the week later is slightly cheaper for this cruise too...

I saw it on Travelocity.

It is Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Sky
Departs Miami on Oct 20 Returns on Oct 24

$99 per adult
$49 per child

3 adults and 4 children total $670.48 with all taxes and fees.

:cool1:

My Mother is coming. I'm on the phone with travelocity making the payment now :cool1: :cool1: The next thing for us to decide is whether we want to fly into Orlando and stay DVC, rent a car and drive down having a day or two on each end. Of course we have no park tickets and won't be buying any...or we could fly into Ft. Lauderdale and drive from there. For the $89 airfare each way it will need to be Ft. Lauderdale or Orlando.

It is pitch black here & pouring.

I am in today painting & making the house look presenatable for the estate agent. We are still so confused to the schools in NC. We like the town of Cary but their schools seem wonky to me. You can buy a house next door to a school but the district can send your kid to another school miles away. Here you go to the school near your home...makes no sense to me. Chapel Hill schools don't do that but CH homes prices are very high (for NC) & so are the taxes...I don't want to be in the same boat I am in now, just someplace else, YKWIM? So we have been researching the schools on line to get as much info as possible...still find it all confusing.

Sophie lost a tooth last night. She was so excited. Thankfully the toothfairy woke up in time to deliver her prize.

I think that one of my cousins lives in or near Chapel Hill, I'm not sure though, I'll have to look up his address. I never talk with him, but I could give him a call or send an email if you'd like. His wife is a school teacher.

Sending lots of prayers to your Mom, Dad and you! Do they know anything else yet?

Cool!

That is terrific news! I still say those babies are lucky to have you. :goodvibes

PD and prayers sent. :wizard:

Yes -- I hope you guys have a terrific time and great weather.

Andrew is also counting down the days until he's no longer a tween and is an official teenager. I can't tell you about girls, but I know for boys around here it's a big deal.

Wow -- that's terrific!

For trips with kids -- DC was a lot of fun and there is so much to see. We also love Destin, Florida. But I have to say, we were kind of sad to miss Disney this past summer. Dec. seems like it will never get here. Cruises can also be tons of fun and there are good deals out there on some lines. Just not usually on my favorite line...

Congrats to Sophie!

Is there good corporate housing so that you guys can buy some time figuring out neighborhoods? Andrew's classmate and his family had to move to San Antonio last year and had terrible corporate housing -- very cramped. Now that AT&T is moving corporate to Dallas, they are having to move back here. (Yeah -- this is one of Andrew's best friends!) The corporate housing they are in here is fabulous and huge.

Sending tons of PD for Elin and Bob on their trip!

Randy fixed our compactor last night! After I take the boys to get flu shots this afternoon, we are meeting a guy at the house to give me a bid on the carpet. Now I just need to get the other toilet fixed unless something else breaks.

Soccer this weekend, then I've promised to help my nephew with his campaign stuff for student council.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm glad that things are coming together. Toilets aren't that complicated. If Randy was able to figure out the trash compactor then the toilet should be a breeze. :thumbsup2

OK - My car is in the shop for the recall repair and I have a manicure appointment in 15 minutes. About the time I get back the car should be ready and they I have to go teach. I don't know if I will make it back on here today. So, just in case...

So long
Farewell
Aufwiedersehn
Adeiu
Adeiu Adeiu
To yieu and yieu and yieu

Have a great trip :cool1: :cool1:

Deb - Yay for the cruise!!! Wow that is a great deal!

Deb - Yay for the cruise!!! Wow that is a great deal!

It wasn't as good a deal as I thought. Either I misunderstood or she told me wrong, but it ended up being $635 for one room and $650 for the second. By the time you add in taxes, fuel surcharge, port fees etc it was just over $200 per person on average. She is sending me the complete breakdown. I did add the birthday package on so one room will be decorated for the kids birthday and we will have a cake. I guess we each get a slice of birthday cake at dinner too :confused3

I know nothing about cruising so now I need to do some research or call Jen since she is a cruise pro.

Does anyone have any comments about Norwegin?

Deb,

Thanks...but I do not want you to call your cousin if you never talk to him. I am doing good checking out school stats online. I appreciate it though.:)

Still $200pp is a great deal. I've only cruised once on Disney so I cannot help you with Norwegian but I do know cruising is fun & with that price I think you got a great deal.

I've cruised with Norwegian 2x, but it was back in the late 80s/early 90s, and was very happy with them.

When Hal and I did our cruise way back in 1987, we loved it. I have heard some things about the freestyle dining that there are maybe two restaurants that do that but they serve the same thing everynight. The other restaurants on the ship, you pay extra. Chanon----your thoughts???

So, thanks to Marci, I made the kids well appts for physicals and flu shots. Our old ped. retired so this will our first meeting of the new dr. The office staff was very helpful in setting up the appt. so we're off to a good start!

Ugh. Travelocity made an error and booked us on the Oct 27th cruise instead of the 20th. The 27th was NEVER mentioned   Now I'm on the phone trying to sort that out. Why are my travel plans never easy

So for $100 more we can be on the right cruise

Has anyone gotten any DINGS today? I seem to get them everyday except today.

Oh wait the 2 rooms are booked as 2 separate reservations so that is a $200 error. If everyone wasn't so excited I would probably cancel at this point. We've gone from $670 for 6 people to $1500 in the course of a few hours.
