DDA Chapter 12

:lmao: I was thinking I would try to make the AKL part a surprise for Lizzy but I already want to tell her. I honestly don't know how she'll react to the surprise. She tends to need to think about things. I know I couldn't surprise her with a trip but I was thinking she could handle this. I guess I'll wait a while and see how our conservations about the trip go. She asked me if we were really going (I had mentioned the possibility on our trip) and I told her I had bought airfare. She asked me where we staying and I told her Pop. She said she wanted to stay at ASMu. She might need a little time to think about it.

My kids are the same way with surprises which is why I had to tell them before we actually left. They just need to process new information for a while.

I'm new to the this board, as a friend just directed me here. I'm looking forward to chatting about all things Disney. We're super exciting to be going to DW in November 29-December 6. This will be our first holiday visit!

Can't wait to chat with everyone!

Welcome! I'm Beth, primarily SAHM to 3 kids: ds-17, dd-15, and ds-9. I also teach preschool 3 mornings a week. WDW for the holidays sounds magnificent! My first trip was right after Christmas 1972, but a lot has changed since then, and my memory is fading as I get older, too. I know that you will have a wonderful time! Take lots of pictures for us.

I took it easy tonight. I tried to take a nap, but really couldn't sleep. Chris thinks I'm running a fever  I ended up hanging out on the couch though I did manage to do the budget and pay the bills. I am not good at doing nothing. I really hope that I can sleep tonight and wake up feeling at least 70%. 100% is way too much to hope for.

Unfortunately, I'm way too good at doing nothing. pixiedust: that you feel better today!

It was not a great moment. And then of course Emma and I ended up in tears when I had hit my limit. We had a nice long talk about what she needs to do and if she doesn't understand than she needs to ask the teacher because I surely don't understand what she's doing. Compatible numbers, we never learned that!! I know full well though that she knows, she just likes to battle with us. So Dana suggested the timer and we had used it last year (the one on the microwave) but now since Emma is in her own room with a desk we got a regular old kitchen timer. She was doing so well up until the middle of last week. :headache:

I hope you figure out the competencies thing.

:scared1: :scared1: Ack, your poor shoes!!
Laura + homework = drama many nights (still!). The boys just do theirs.

Good Morning DDA!

We finally have power again! Whew! Who knew I would miss it so much! I am definitely not a pioneer! We lost power on early on Sunday afternoon, and it just came back on around 2:00 a.m. last night.
There was a little excitement involved in it though. The firetrucks were next door.
A transformer caught the neighbor's tree on fire.
After lots of sawing and more mess for her to clean up, the power was restored in our block.
Thankfully the temps were down, so our natural a/c was sufficient!

We had wind gusts of over 80 mph here! Barely a drop of rain! :confused3
I have never seen so much destruction around this town. Lots of trees uprooted, power poles down, siding off of houses and businesses, leaves and general debris everywhere!
Still over half the town is without power.
At least we are safe and our house and roof are still intact.
No school yesterday or today. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

I just kind of skimmed over the last 20 pages, so forgive me if I don't respond.

! I am Tia, mommy to 5yo Terra, also an avid Disney fan. My husband husband of 6 years, Phil, eh...not so much. He is going on his first trip with us though and we leave in 3 1/2 days!!!! Woohoo!!! We're all so excited. :dance3: We're so glad to have you join us!

Good luck getting it all done. Do you and Jennifer both leave on Saturday?

We leave Friday night and Jennifer leaves on Saturday morning. When I made my full list it wasn't too bad. Long on paper, but I know a majority of it is pretty quick and the rest is pretty much ready to just do with little prep work needed. Like packing - I know what it all is, it just has to be put in the cases and organized, so at least I'm not starting from scratch.

Robyn - Dallas schools have early release on 10/17, and since it is Friday night the fair might be rather lively. They usually have pretty tight security, just be very careful in the parking lots and driving in the neighborhood around the fairgrounds because it is very scary. :scared1:
DS wants to do Race for the Cure so that's where we will be Sat AM. You are more than welcome to join us, or we can catch up with you later in the day on Saturday. :)

Hey, you could wave to one of my best friends as you arrive at the fair! He lives in some loft converts really close to the fairgrounds.

Well, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Nothing serious, just exhausted and back achy, general ickiness. So, Alan gets to put the kids to bed, and I'm heading off. I can't believe it! It's only 8:15 here, and I'm heading to bed. Apparently, being pregnant and 41 is very tiring....or so my body tells me.

Night, everyone!

That's what my mom always said about being pregnant with Rachel (she was 41 as well). It was a totally different experience than being younger and pregnant. Hope you're feeling better and rested today!

We have those issues with Rachel and math. It's not that it's really that hard, it's just that Mom and I didn't learn these "ways" of doing it or some of the steps they teach. Then, the book is mostly a workbook with very few examples and no "teaching" of the material. I have to try to decipher things from the one or two examples. Luckily, they are taking notes more now so Rachel has a few things written down too so I can usually come up with it. I just don't get how we're supposed to help with homework without the actual info to do so. I hope the timer works. I know it helps Terra focus on cleaning up just by knowing there is a limit to how long she'll be working (even if she actually has to finish the job regardless).

Arabella chews the Crocs, Aurora chews my purse strap and the strap on my laptop case, they are evil. Both of them!

Your raving endorsements are not helping me listen to my daughter and husband and their talk of how we need a cat again. ;) Sorry about the shoes. :( Guess a storage case for Crocs should be next on the list, eh.

My throat is hurting again. Darn post nasal drip. I need to head to bed, but I know that Everything is going to move into my throat and I won't be able to sleep anyway. I so wish that I could find a med that would dry me up without wiring me. I want Nyquil for the abnormal I guess :confused3

I hope it clears up for you soon, Deb! :wizard: The weather is changing a lot this week so I'm hoping nothing settles in for me before Friday.

Glad that you are safe and powered again! I hope your cleanup isn't too bad.

Good morning, DDA! Today's agenda is the sewing projects and finishing the packing. We're also hitting Kohl's after Rachel's early release day in hopes of finding jeans and some good clearance. Yesterday ended up being a baking day as it was Phil's birthday and then I made Kristi some banana bread as she was having a rough week the sheer volume of work with school and trying to be ready to leave town on Thurs which the power outage threw even more off course. Luckily, I think that I have no more errands to run before our trip which should save significant time as well.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday!

Are you sure she's not a dog in cat's clothing?

She is evil. Doesn't matter what she's wearing!

 does she ingest any of the shoes or just shred them??

She DENTS them. They have tons of little gouge marks in them.

Tammi - I hope your ear unplugs soon. I hate that feeling too.

:wizard: Hope your ear clears up!

Hey, you could wave to one of my best friends as you arrive at the fair! He lives in some loft converts really close to the fairgrounds.

The lofts at the edge of downtown are nice. My ExBosses have a loft across from the new Ritz-Carlton. For people who work downtown and don't have small children it would be a neat place to live!

Your raving endorsements are not helping me listen to my daughter and husband and their talk of how we need a cat again. ;) Sorry about the shoes. :( Guess a storage case for Crocs should be next on the list, eh.

None of our other cats chewed. I don't know what is up with these 2.

Glad that you are safe and powered again! I hope your cleanup isn't too bad.

Tom, glad you guys are safe and have your electricity! :)

Yeah, he's a single 32yo male so it's a nice area for him. Have to say, I was pretty taken with it myself when I visited when I was single and 25ish.

Hi Dana & welcome! I am Janet, mother to 2 boys age 14 & 12. I have been married 19 years as of next month. The boys & I are crazy about Disney, dh not so much. Looks like some of us will be there around the same time as you! Hope to see you post more.

Deb & Glynis hope you both feel better today :wizard:

Tammi hope your ear unplugs :wizard:

Terry thanks for posting the update on Karen. Glad to hear they are all well, hope they get their power back soon :wizard:

Tom glad to hear you are all ok!

Amy & Jennifer how are you doing?

Elizabeth thank goodness our cats do not chew on my crocs!

Tia & Jennifer I am so jealous that you leave so soon, Kristine too!

:wizard: & to all I missed!

Thank you! I had a terrible time deciding which things to buy. I kept putting things in the cart, taking them out, putting them back. It was irritating the daylights out of Princess! :rotfl2:

You did a good job -- very cute!

Welcome! I'm 42 and live in a suburb of Dallas and work full-time. My DH likes Disney and loves watching the excitement of my DS12 and DS9 when we are there. We also love Disney cruises.

Robyn - Dallas schools have early release on 10/17, and since it is Friday night the fair might be rather lively. They usually have pretty tight security, just be very careful in the parking lots and driving in the neighborhood around the fairgrounds because it is very scary. :scared1:

Robyn -- be sure you leave well before dark. It can be very scary at night. Also, it's been my experience that it's hard to find parking inside the fair grounds if you go in the afternoon, but maybe you'll get lucky. What do you think Elizabeth?

Thanks for the heads up. I imagine we will only stay a couple of hours. Our Tut tickets are for 11am and they say the exhibit takes 90 minutes. I'd imagine we'd be at the fair by 2-2:30ish and stay til about 5 or so. I guess then from there we'll hit AG.

Thanks for the offer to join you for the race. Are you both running it?!?

Maybe we could meet afterwards for bruch/lunch with Joe and Marci/Lindsay if they are available.

I can try to do that. Lunch/dinner would work better, as both boys have soccer games in different cities at 10:30. We usually do Komen as well, but I might have to scoot back to Kaufman right after it. We'll see how things shape up, but I do have it on the calendar.

Woo Hoo -- your trip is so close! Happy belated birthday to Phil!

Deb -- I hope you are feeling better!

Glynis -- take it easy. I hope you are better!

Tammi -- I hope your ear clears up.

Jen -- How 'bout those Cowboys! :)

Elizabeth -- sorry about your crocs. Expensive chew toys...

Soccer was so pleasant last night -- we're having great weather after the storm. We're going to watch my nephew play football tonight and should have great weather for that as well.

I hope Karen's and Jennifer's power is back on by now or ASAP.

Have a good day everyone! :)

Marci - We always go to the Fair as soon as the gates open in the morning, so I don't know about parking later in the day. :confused3 I know years and years ago we had concert tickets for something at Starplex (whatever it's name is now) and it was HORRIBLE. All of the lots were full and the streets were packed, we saw a car almost run over an officer going around him after he told them NOT to go around, we ended up going back home. We figured the cost of having the car stolen would be more than the money we lost on the concert tickets. But that was at night.
It would be wonderful if you could make it to the race with us! We'll just see how the schedules shake out. :)

Chanon - I just watched that video. They e-mailed it to me. I am not all pumped up about the new property, and I am DEFINITELY not buying in there even though it sounds nice. The price per point isn't much higher than AKV, but if we buy more points we'll add to our AKV points.

Good Morning all!!

The band stinks....sorry had to get that off my chest. For being as far ahead as they were 2 weeks ago they seemed to have decided to scrap almost everything and start over. :confused3 But I am having oh so much fun really getting to know the other band parents.

Because I had one more person ask to sign up I am going to save the name pulling until after supper tonight!!

I am officially Auntie once more to Caleb born this morning.

Hi Dana!! and Welcome!! I am Theresa, an overworked, overstressed mess. :rotfl: Seriously, I am 37 and mom to 2 beautiful girls, Cassidy, 16 and Abi, 12. I work as an office manager at a church right now. We don't get to go to Disney often but we are already planning Cassidy's graduation extravaganza. My mom lives near Robyn.

Hugs and Prayers for all!!
