So we just found out that we will be going to a wedding in Mexico next summer. I am starting to look for a dress now, while summer dresses are on sale. Ive never been to a beach wedding--i was thinking about a light sundress or something like that--would that be okay?

I think a nice sun dress would be prefect




Tammi I thought of painting the bottom wall, but it wouldn't look right with the wall paper above. It's funny because Hunter's walls are red and his curtains are lime green, but it works because of the comforter and valance. Maybe I need tiebacks with the blue wall color in them

I LOVE Hunter's room though I hated it while I was painting it. It was the accessories that pulled it together.

ETA: He now has a lime green shag rug beside his bed too. It's about 2 ft X 3 ft or so.

Deb - I really like the room, but I think the yellow needs to be BRIGHT yellow, like Donald's bill and feet. That would pop the colors more. Right now I think the whole room is a little pastel for the Cars theme and a little boy. Is that the feeling you are getting?

Deb - I really like the room, but I think the yellow needs to be BRIGHT yellow, like Donald's bill and feet. That would pop the colors more. Right now I think the whole room is a little pastel for the Cars theme and a little boy. Is that the feeling you are getting?

I didn't want a theme. He loves Doc Hudson, but there isn't enough Doc stuff out there to pull off a room and he doesn't want "Cars" as the theme. Donald is just his favorite so he will be in any room that Colby has. Colby loves light yellow and doesn't want bright. Maybe it looks babyish and that is my hangup? He really likes it the way it is and that is what's important in the end. Eventually I will repaint/paper his room to a yellow color per his request. I just don't want to do it all this year as I'd like to spread out the work and cost over a few years. I also don't want the entire house to need to be done all at once again. I'd prefer to update one room per year continually rather than All the rooms at once.

I'm trying to get my boys (Chris included) onboard with this since I think it makes the house look alot neater. We haven't done so in years as there has always been more important things to deal with with little kids. Now that they are older I think it would be nice. Nick and Chris both feel it is unnecessary as "we are just going to get back into them". So what do you do in your homes?

Deb I think Colby's room looks great, sorry I am no help. As for making the beds everyday, no we don't Our bedrooms are upstairs, so no one sees them(good excuse huh lol).

When we were little, we had to make beds every day. Now, I kinda just throw the covers back up on the bed so they are not just laying there..My brother doesnt make his bed
No one is usually upstairs other than family and some friends

The only time we make the bed is if maintenance is coming.

DS doesn't make his bed, either. Nobody ever goes in his room, and it is next to impossible to reach that silly loft bed. When we replace his bed I will get something that can be pulled away from the wall.

I don't make our bed either. I should, since our master is so small and it does make the room look neater, but 99% of the time the bedroom door is shut.

I'm not a bed maker, more of a straightener. I don't cover the pillows. The kids beds both have comforters, so all they need to do is straighten the sheets/comforter. I do mine religiously, and I try to remind the kids daily to fix theirs, but of course more than not I forget.

Thanks for the responses on bedmaking. I grew up in a home that always had the beds made before you left the room in the morning. Once I hit college I NEVER made my bed. I try to make beds now, but the boys just pull the covers up leaving everything lumpy. That drives me nuts. Since we have a Ranch style house the older boys rooms are what you see when you walk through the door so unless their doors are closed it just looks messy. At least I feel better in knowing that I am not the only one that has messy beds

I just found what sounds like the perfect position for me! It is fewer hours, but the pay is almost the same. Terra would be welcome and the hours are perfect for allowing us time for homeschool, trips, etc. I'm waiting to hear back from the family from my initial email so any good thoughts would be greatly apprecited! I received the rest of the stuff for Colby's room. I'll post a few pictures and maybe you can help me. I'm not sure why, but I'm not in love with the room. I don't know if it is the yellow/blue combo or the sheer curtains or something I haven't thought of. I really did not want to paint and paper his room this year so I tried to find a comforter with yellow and blue to tie the walls to his need for yellow. The yellow curtains are sheer, but that was all that I could find at a reasonable price in a light yellow. I'm thinking we need tie backs, but haven't found a solution for that yet either. Anyway here are the photos

I like the room, but I agree it seems to be missing something. I was wondering about a border along the top of the wall. Kind of cut the blue/white on the walls a little bit. Not sure what else I'd do, though. I like the curtains!

Deb -- I like the room a lot, and I think the colors are great on the walls, love the Doc Hudson and think all of that ties together, but my first thought was exactly what Elin was thinking... The curtains don't have to be bright yellow, but with the sun coming in, they wash out to what looks like in the picture a very light yellow or beige. I know lining them would defeat the purpose of sheer, but I wonder if what bothers you is that the color washes out of the curtains with the sun.

Regardless, I think you've done a fantastic job with your house and love all the rooms. You and Janet are the ones that are motivating me to get maintenance/organization things done around the house. For that, I thank you both!

That's part of our morning routine. The kids get up, have breakfast, go to their rooms to get dressed and make beds, turn out their lights, get hair done, and then they can play until the bus comes. If the beds aren't made when they leave, they have to do it when they get home. They can't play with friends until it's done.

I agree with you that it makes the whole house look neater. I can't get Alan on board with it, either. He just doesn't see the need, since no one but us goes in our room, and he's just going to mess it up getting in at bedtime. However, I just wait until he's gone, and make it. He's always grateful, and then I have another job for him to do since he won't make his bed.

The kids used to give me grief about it, but a couple of weeks of sticking to my guns, and enforcing it, and now it's habit. Katie actually makes hers before she comes up for breakfast. She has a loft bed, and it's just easier for her to do it as she's getting up.

Good luck! It's always tough to try to get your kids to realize that doing chores is not a punishment.

Did I mention the airplane crash in Southern Utah? On Friday night, a small plane crashed killing all 10 passengers. I didn't think too much of it when I heard it on the news, as they didn't mention any names.

Early Saturday morning, Alan's work called and told him that all 10 people were from Cedar City (where I was born and grew up). They were part of a medical team that would fly to small communities without medical facilities and do check ups, etc., once a week. They wanted Alan to go to Cedar City and talk to the families of the victims. Alan told them he wasn't comfortable with that, and wanted to know the names of the dead. Work called him back and told him the names. Well, it turns out that both of us knew at least 5 of the people. One was my dermatologist who removed all the cancer from my back when I was 12. And 2 were the husband and daughter of one of the people who works for my dad.

Alan told work that he would not be going, since we know those families, and he didn't feel right about invading their privacy at this time. It would just be too awkward! They weren't happy, but they agreed it wouldn't be the best thing.

The mayor of Cedar City is planning a memorial service for all 10 at the University there this Thursday. I'm not sure if we're going, or not, but I'll let you all know. If you could just keep those families in your thoughts and prayers, I know they would appreciate it.

Marci- I am so glad the party went well! I hope Jake is feeling better and that the boys can stay healthy for school!

DS got up and got ready without any fuss this morning. I hope he has a good day. I told him not to freak out if there is something on his schedule that needs to be changed. It will take a couple of weeks for them to figure out who is coming back and who isn't, and they will have to figure out where to put the new kids so his schedule will probably change anyway.

I know when I was in middle school I signed up for orchestra but since I was in "gifted" classes they put me in French instead so it wouldn't mess up my academic schedule. I ended up dropping a gifted class so I could be in orchestra. I hated gifted anyway and dropped it entirely in 9th grade so it was fine.

I hope your DS has a great day as well! We did not have Andrew's schedule yet -- only his advisor, but I've already gotten an e-mail from the advisor with his schedule and a link to the calendar/assignment list etc. for all of the teachers. He is only supposed to have math and PE today, and the rest are meetings/what to expect etc. I'm anxious to see if most of the boys wore pants (that was what we were told would probably happen) and if they wore polo's or button downs. I'm also anxious about the shoes. I hope he still thinks they'll do and aren't too dorky...

Middle school is stressing me out for some reason... none of the other grades have like this, so I can't blame Andrew for being a little apprehensive. Since the evil twins have moved, I think this will actually be a good year for him.

My week isn't starting so well....running late, with a migraine, nearly got hit by ANOTHER truck trying to cross the street legally after having Cassidy in my bed all night. Her bed collapsed last night so until we get it switched out I get a bed buddy.

I hope it's gotten much better by now!

Deb -- I never managed to make the bed when I was at home, but I always did it at school and when I had my apartment. Since Randy is still in it when I leave for work, it's not up to me if it gets done. One of the favorite things about Randy being out of work was that the house was picked up, bed made and laundry done. I wish I could afford to have a house husband all of the time!

I've been struggling with this for a while now and am thinking I'm going to ask my kids (and Randy) to at least straighten the covers and put the covers under the pillow, but that the comforter and fancy pillows don't have to be perfect. But I'm waiting until next week until they get more in a routine.
