Happy Birthday, Lindsay!!

scraplifting have a magical day Lindsay!!!!

I like the room, but I agree it seems to be missing something. I was wondering about a border along the top of the wall. Kind of cut the blue/white on the walls a little bit. Not sure what else I'd do, though. I like the curtains!
This makes sense too...what about a racetrack border?

Marci - All DS got was a post card with the name of his "advisor" and 2 different numbers on it. We are assuming an "advisor" is his homeroom teacher because it's not his guidance counselor. ONE of those 2 numbers is the room number of his homeroom, but he wasn't sure which number it was, and he didn't know where in the building those numbers would be. He was SOOO nervous about asking someone! He was SURE he was going to be chastised for not knowing where the room was located. :sad2:

I hope his day was better than he thought it might be, and I really hope he has some of his friends in his classes.

Middle school was a huge adjustment for him last year - I am hoping this year won't be as bad. They just came out with new DISD grading guidelines (perhaps you have seen the news, read the paper, or otherwise heard about it?) It sounds like they are just dumbing everything down a few more notches and making it virtually impossible to fail. They say short-term failure is the precursor for long term failure (Ya' think?) so they need to work to eliminate short term failures by allowing late work, test re-takes, and so forth. They are also saying no more than 90 minutes of homework TOTAL, each night. That will be interesting, because 90 minutes of work to another kid is NOT something my kid can finish in 90 minutes.

So i called the school district again--She said she passed my message along,b ut the director is still in meetings with the superintendent (PLEASE let it be about hiring me!)
She said that I may see the director tomorrow at orientation or I can call the office back on Wednesday---She was really nice and apologized like crazy for not having an answer so HOPEFULLY ill know something tomorrow

Oh my! I can't believe they are making you wait like this! I'll keep praying, though!

I have heard (a lot!) about the standards dropping. DISD thought their test scores were bad before...

Andrew's last class is back with his advisor and is study hall -- that's 30 minutes, and he's not supposed to have over 90 minutes of homework a night -- and it's usually closer to 45 minutes max, so I'm hoping we won't have much to do with him. The philosophy of the school is that these kids struggle so each day in class that they don't have them do a lot of homework by themselves. Of course, there are less than 10 kids in a class and they are grouped together according to ability so they cover quiet a lot each day.

How's your Mom? When does Diva start back?

Ok older moms, the ones with adult children. Why do you (if you do) still inst on buying things for us?

I'm confused. So you still don't know, but may know later. If you don't know later, then they want you to go to orientation tomorrow at the school?! Just hire you for goodness sake!

Well I have to go to orientation no matter what since I at least have the long term sub position. So I guess maybe ill find out then? If not, i call again wednesday-im going crazy and i agree "Just hire me! :

The test scores are actually coming UP, which is why it boggles my mind that they have decided to completely ease up on EVERYTHING in the classroom now! :scared1: Boneheads. We just don't have the money for private school. I called Winston last year and almost fell over when she told me how much it would cost. Which is a shame, because I drive right by there on my way to work. So we'll see if we can't manage to squeeze some sort of education out if DISD. I guess we should think about applying for a magnet school, but I don't know which one. I don't think he is talented enough to go to Booker T. Washington (he likes art, drama, and music but he doesn't EXCEL at them). I am positive the Math/Science magnet is NOT for him. I guess we need to look into all of the options just so we know what is out there. Of course most of the magnets are high schools so we have a couple of years.

Mom is OK, thanks. She has her final A/C infusion this week, then she will start Taxol.
Diva started back on August 12, but Mom hasn't said much about it. She did say Diva dropped out of color guard and switched to debate. Diva still doesn't have a job and I am about 99% certain that Mom has no plans of making her get a job. That INFURIATES me, because Mom can't afford that stupid car she bought for Diva, and if Diva isn't working she doesn't really need her own car! Mom just tells me she will handle it. :headache: Great.

Hm, that's interesting. I think, though, that the filming is all done. I could be wrong, but if, initially, they were planning on a November release, all they would be doing now would be post-production editing and graphic work (CG, etc.). I haven't heard about anything delaying the shooting. I'll have to dig around and see what I can find out.

Deb - I really like the room, but I think the yellow needs to be BRIGHT yellow, like Donald's bill and feet. That would pop the colors more. Right now I think the whole room is a little pastel for the Cars theme and a little boy. Is that the feeling you are getting?

this was my thought!!

For one thing mom is always yelling if you need food just come over and take whatever you need. And when I didn't do that with the bacon just last week, woo.

Today we stopped by a local farmer market and she just had to buy my tomato and a head of lettuce.

These are but a few things. The biggest being she didn't buy a house for such a long time, because if something happened to her, Dawn would get the house and she didn't have one for me. :confused3 John told her I didn't need a house because we bought one together.

I think she feels I am being slighted, because Dawn still lives at home. But Dawn is the one taking care of her the most and I am married after all.

I never complain, but most times just wont let her buy things. She is after all on a fixed income and John makes good money for the area and what he does. But sometimes I will give in, like today.

She actually thinks that the next Disney trip she is paying, over my dead body.
