DDA Chapter 11

I want to be 12 again. This sounds like fun!

Haunted Pirate Cruise
Disney's Polynesian Resort is unveiling a new Haunted Pirates Cruise. Children will travel aboard a "Haunted Pirate Ship" to each "Haunted Island" (marinas) and will hear of the spooky or haunted inhabitants. Halloween Ghost Stories for children will be told throughout the cruise, but if children are sensitive to spooky things or the dark this may not be for them. The cruise is recommended for children age 5 to 12. Each child will receive a set of Pirate Mickey Ears, a pirate name tag, a pirate name, Halloween candy, a picture, a viewing of Happy HallowWishes, and possible prizes based on the games played on board the Haunted Pirate Ship. A credit card is required to complete the reservation.

The Haunted Pirates Cruise will be on Oct. 13, 16, 19, 21, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 31 from 8:15-10:00 p.m. Tickets are $31.95

I think this storm is trying to make up for Hanna.

I don't know how I did it, but I fell asleep in the recliner. I got up at 6:45 this morning and cleaned up, got dressed and came into work. Right now I am running on steam. It is dark outside and raining to beat the band. Thunder and lightning too.

Yes I am hoping today goes better because I cannot take many more of these days.

I thought that sounded really fun...

although Jackie still hasn't forgiven me for making her go on the pirate cruise..."it was the worst day of her life" :rotfl:

Hello DDA! I'm waaaaayyyyy back. A least 20 pages. So this is a drive by posting just to let you all know I'm thinking about you.

This has been one of the most stress filled days of my career. I just finished a Cosmopolitan. :drinking:

I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is looking to be just as bad.:headache: :headache:

Maybe a momossa or screwdriver for breakfast would help?

I have had two VERY TALL gin & tonics and maybe having a glass of sherry as well after today.

See above :rotfl:

Thanks for the quoteable post Deb. Elizabeth I have kept my lip zipped and maybe I shouldn't have. Thank you Deb for your brave post.

My Dad is 93. He shouldn't be lifting pallets full of 50 pound stones for his walkway, but he does. He shouldn't still be mowing the grass. He shouldn't be hanging doors. He shouldn't be sneaking out of the house to eat cheese Whoppers. He shouldn't be laying decorative stones on his walkway. He shouldn't be working. He shouldn't be driving 4 hours to see his grandson get married. He shouldn't be doing any of that. But if he felt that he just went through life saving surgery, just so he could sit in a rocking chair, he would surely die. You know what, he's going to die someday anyway. But he's going to be doing what he loves to do. He's going to die with his boots on, doing SOMETHING. He would hate to get to the pearly gates and when St. Peter asked what did you die from, he say nothing.:confused3 Not my Dad.

I have a friend who was just told her cancer has returned and she is now at stage 4. So is this the time for her to sit in her house and do nothing to preserve her energy? H E L L no. This is the time she wants to see her friends, go to the mountains and see the deer at her cabin. :goodvibes

I think the greatest gift you could give your mom right now is to find it in your heart to get along with Ms Selfish and Diva Girl. Maybe go to your sister's home for Thanksgiving. Plan a really nice time for your Mom. She doesn't need to be reminded every second of the day she's sick. She's trying to live with cancer, not die from it.

Thanskgiving was my Mom's birthday. No matter how sick she was, my Mom would watch my granddaughter while my sister, my daughter, my DDIL and her sister would go out for Black Friday. Usually my son would stay with her "to keep her company" Actually, he would watch my DGD, Mom was too sick to. But it made her feel useful. That was her yearly "job" to watch the kid while we hit the stores. Till the day she died I never told my mother she was too sick or too weak to do anything. Nothing I could gift my Mom made her happier than to see her children and grandchildren and the absolute apple of her eye, my daughter's daughter, getting along for the annual celebration of her life. And shopping.:goodvibes

Well, I've talked way too much. I'm going to bed. :grouphug: to you Elizabeth. I know you just want to protect your mom and you want to do SOMETHING to extend her life. And feeling very helpless in the process. But sometimes peace is the greatest gift of all.

Well said. Is your Dad back to mowing? I'm sure he is ansty to get moving again.

How true! Ordinarily with both carriers in the cart, I just have room for a few groceries and will have to come back another time. We have people coming over this weekend though and lots to do before then, so I got "everything" yesterday at Meijer (or so I thought, except I really have about 394023840 more errands today somehow! :faint:). I had parked close, so I figured I could just put the bags in another cart, and do a sort of caravan, pushing the girls in front with one hand and pulling the other cart behind with the other. Um... no, I couldn't. And not one person who laughed at us offered to push the stinkin' cart out!! Thankfully, I was in a good mood, so it was more amusing to me than frustrating. A different day, and I might have just left the groceries for someone else! :rotfl:

I find that pulling both carts, one with each hand, is much easier. The 2 set against each other and give easier maneuverability :thumbsup2

It does sound like fun. I would enjoy it and I'm sure my boys would too:goodvibes

Ooh, nice tip! This might especially be true since the cart with the girls is so much heavier/sturdier (well, depending on the groceries I get ;)). :thumbsup2

Ok, I need some post-baby-body advice from women who have been there

I pulled out my fall/winter stuff yesterday, which I wore before and then up until about halfway through my pregnancy. NOTHING fits! It's all the same sizes (or bigger :yay:) than I'm buying now, but you know how it goes.... nothing fits right, whether it's hanging off of me or "the right size".

The numbers on the scale say I'm significantly down from this time last year, before I got pregnant, and yet I just DON'T carry weight well anymore - probably because it's all flab, instead of mostly muscle :rotfl:

I know things absolutely never go back to "normal" (pre-pregnancy), but do they start to get back to something that resembles your previous body type? I especially thought this would be true since I didn't have the whole inflated hip/butt/****s thing during pregnancy (to my chagrin ;)). I still have narrow everything, just lots of extra belly fat, despite having a net loss. Essentially, I'm "fatter" even though I weigh 15 pounds less. Very odd.

I'm thinking it's just a change in muscle tone, which I'm sure can be reversed. Of course, it doesn't seem to be going any direction, even 3 months later...I don't know.

I'm not really looking for any sympathy ;), just confirmation that my thought process is right ... or advice to start over with my wardrobe, if that's what is necessary. :faint:

Thoughts? Maybe I am thankful it's still t-shirt/jeans weather

So I came up with a crazy idea of making Nick into Mr. Potato Head for his costume. I want to make the various body parts with extras and have them velcro on. That way we could change his appearance. What do you all think?

Sounds cool!!

I gotta go to bed. I am still sickish. I wish I could get rid of the Disney crud.

I have my doctor appointment tomorrow for my foot. I hope it is healed enough so I do not need surgery.

Hope you are having good weeks.

:wizard: that your foot is healing just fine.

Good Morning,

We didn't find out if we are having a Pirate or a Princess yesterday, the baby did not cooperate, so we will have to wait another month. Good news is all is well. All Brandon had to say about the baby was it was rolled up in a ball.

My dad had his appointment with his doctor here, he is doing well but still tires easily. He has an appointment with the Pace maker rep to "fine tune" things.

Jennifer - We've all been there, but for the most part our spouses have survived. My DH would visit his mom with the girls quite often when I was working and he was in charge, I think his biggest fear was the dirty diapers. :lmao:

Amy - I hope you're not too sore this morning

Terry and Steffy - Sorry your jobs are giving you such a rough time

Deb - Can't wait to see the Mr. Potato Head costume

Thanks again for all your good thoughts, it looks like we won't even be getting a breeze form Ike, a huge differnce from it heading straight for us. Let's just keep praying that noone is harmed from it.

We're off to spend the morning at the hospital, my MIL is having her knee replacement redone, she has worn out here parts. I'll be taking my crocheting, it's a good way to pass the time.

:wizard: for your MIL. I am sorry the baby wasn't cooperative but  for everything looking good!

Wow... I am glad I wasn't at your place of business yesterday, you two. Best of luck that today is better! :grouphug:

I am glad you are feeling more comfortable as you settle into this. I hope you have fun today!

Ditto on both!

I guess I want Mom to take it easy for selfish reasons. I don't want to be Diva's mother. I don't want to drop everything and fly to KS when Mom is hospitalized because I am the only daughter who WILL drop everything and go. I don't want DS to lose the very last grandparent he has. Yes, we are ALL going to die. But if Mom is careless and purposely does things that jeopardize her recovery then I will be the one who has to deal with it. I will have to pick up the pieces. I will have to be the strong, responsible one who takes care of all of it so the other two can flail and whine. I don't want that. I do understand where you guys are coming from, and I appreciate it! I am just not in a place where I can take that advice to heart.

Off to the shower. We were going to try to go tot he zoo today but it may end up being very rainy. Guess we'll see!

's Enjoy the zoo today if you can get it in. It's getting dark here now.

How rude of them!

I'm sure that's so hard! All of those (legitimate!) feelings, on top of the mere fact that your mother is sick. I'm so sorry you have all of this on your plate right now to work through, and without much (any?) extended family support!

Well said.

That does sound like a lot of fun.

Does anyone have any advice?

Mondays for the next 9 months are going to be horrific for me. Without going into the whys, other than it just works out for the best this way believe it or not, Alyssa has ballet on Monday at 5:20-6:05 and then they have Religious Ed. at 6:30-7:45. Luckily they are only about a 10 minute drive apart. So I will pick the kids up after school and may or may not have time to run home and change real fast. It depends on traffic. Here's my question....does anyone have any idea how I can get dinner into them without making it a routine McDs drive thru night???? I can leave ballet and run down to McD, go back and pick Alyssa up, and they can eat on the way to RE. We RARELY eat fast food and I don't want to start. Especially making it a weekly thing. Would I be a bad Mommy if I just packed PBJ, chips, juice box, etc and gave them that for dinner? I guess it can't be worse than McD. Maybe even better. UGH.

No that's not bad. You could also do turkey wraps, different kinds of meat sandwiches, cut up carrots and celery, raisins, granola bars, and once in a while fast food as a treat. If you have time, you can microwave chicken nuggets before you leave the house. Then wrap them in foil to keep them warm.

You are not a bad mommy, no matter what! My kids would routinely like pb&j sandwiches for dinner.

Oh, they get to the bleat pretty quickly in the evenings. :rotfl: Elise takes it a step farther and does this God awful high pitched thing, but he was just totally on edge. We both know darn well that a freaked out mom/dad can't calm a baby down, but I swear I thought he was about to just ground them and walk out of the room, hoping that worked. :teeth: He came into the laundry room (unfortunately (at that moment - ordinarly it's great) on the same level as the bedrooms) and said "What do I do?! Why are they so crazy tonight?!" I just smiled, and said as politely as possible, "Kyle, this is exactly how it goes every night. Usually you just have help. I, however, often don't. ;)". He walked back in, tried desperately to calm them down, but to no avail.

Needless to say, I "rescued them" for my OWN sanity! :rotfl:

I often did that too!!

Jim has almost no common sense (I think it's ADD related) so I didn't leave him home alone very often (still don't)

Jennifer - I still have what I call a baby pouch in my lower abdomen. Of course, I never did any exercise to get ride of it. Even when I was at my thinnest, post-babies, it was still there. Not fat, just an extended uterus/muscles. I've talked to other moms that have worked out trying to get rid of it, and they still have it too. If you find out how to get back to pre-baby body, let me know!

I can tell you that my pre baby days my tummy area was much different than it is now. It was and probably always will be flabby but it has shifted upwards. I weigh less than I did before I got pregnant with Emma but nothing from then has ever fit right again. Though I haven't honestly worked to make it any better.

Ok, I need some post-baby-body advice from women who have been there

Elizabeth- I just got an email from Joe. He said he would love to meet you. And he also informed me that Emma and I will be on our own Saturday night, that is if I don't mind. He got invited to an event from one of his clients and can't seem to get out of it.

Emma found out about the trip this morning. She was looking through my date book and found it on the calendar. Needless to say, she is beyond excited!!!

crud, crud, crud...why didn't I book my airfare already?? It's gone up $40 roundtrip...dang nabbut!!

ETA: Hey Glynis....can you give me a call at work so we can figure out which hotel is the best fit for you!!

Good Morning All!!

I am being a bad, bad girl and doing what is in my job description and nothing else....so that means I've got a ton of time to do whatever I want (which is to find a different job) so here I am dis'ing!!
