I was so excited when I heard this...until I found out it was over spring break. I know we will still have fun, but this is crazy. I think we will stay in Cancun for the competition and then finish our vacation in Cozumel. I feel horrible because DH and I are getting a divorce and I am supposed to have the kids on spring break next year...but there is no way I would take DS6 and DS5 to Cancun. DS13 would enjoy it...but not for the right reasons...lol. Is anyone else going to Jamfest in Cancun next year?

Sounds exciting...............my DD's team may be going to Jamfest in Indianapolis!! Not as exciting as Cancun but the competition is exciting!!!

Good luck............to your DD!! Have fun!!

Just my opinion. I wouldn't be caught dead in or around Cancun during Spring Break. Especially with kids.

Have you decided for sure?

No way, no how would I give up our family vacation for a 10 year old Cheer Comptetition. I guess it is a good thing I never had girls. :rotfl:

So what will your other kids do over their Spring Break - will their Dad take them somewhere?

Yuck. Why on earth do 10 year olds need to go to Cancun for a competition. Sounds like some interesting money changing going on!

No way I'd give up the vacation with all of the kids to go watch a bunch of spoiled cheerleaders squeal amidst the spring break partiers. (especially when my kids were/are dealing with a divorce.)

They will be with their father. We usually don't take a vacation on Spring Break anyway...I like to travel during off season. The only reason that I would feel bad is that my other kids would like to go as well. I took her to Atlanta a few months ago for a cheer competition and we had the best time. It is hard for people to understand the bonding and incredible competition and all the good things that go along with All Star Cheer unless you are involved...trust me...this is only my second year and before she joined I thought all of the "cheer moms" were crazy. Now I know they are just thrilled for their daughters acomplishments and happiness. It is a wonderful sport and has changed my DD self confidence. I am going as long as most of the team is...I wouldn't have traded our weekend in Atlanta for anything. I think we will spend the weekend in Cancun and then go to Cozumel where it is not crazy at all for a couple of days. My other children get to travel with me individually as well.

I'm a "crazy" cheer mom too. :wave2: Jamfests are my DD's favorite competition to attend. I saw they were adding Cancun this year! How exciting!
.
I hope you have a great time!

We took our kids to Cancun last march and had an awesome time. We never even noticed the "spring breakers". We didn't stay at a hotel that sponsers spring break (some don't allow them) and we didn't go out much at night. It's not like you're going to be doing the same things with school aged children that college students will be interested in doing. Don't worry about it. Go and have fun!

It's not the cheer competition that is a bad thing, it is the destination and the timing. Have you seen the ads on TV for Girls Gone Wild? That is pretty much Cancun at spring break. What were they thinking???????
