Hi All ~ DD wants to tour Hollywood.....are there good tours? How safe is Hollywood? What are MUST SEES? What are OKAY TO MISS sights?

Thanks, Sandra

Hello there!
I live in Hollywood. It is a fun city. As in any big city, use caution. Hang your purse on your shoulder ,dont carry it in your hand. Dont give to panhandlers. It is better to pay for parking in a lot, than park a bit away, if you dont know the area.
Hollywood and Highland is really fun. Lots to see. Bring your camera.
Melrose avenue is great for window shopping, and checking out all the "COOL" people. To see some stars, go have coffee at the coffee bean and tea leaf on Sunset blvd. in West Hollywood. It is across from a great dim sum restaurant called Chin Chin. Then go have a fun lunch at Mels Diner, it is right across the street, you can walk to it.
You must see Rodeo drive. It has LOTS OF $$expensive stores. Also go to 1 Rodeo drive. it is a beautiful area. Lots of great places to eat.
Back in Hollywood, go check out the Roosevelt hotel. It is said to be haunted by Marilyn Monroes Ghost. It is very swank and has lots of great Hollywood History. If you want to see lots of Hollywoods greatest, go to the Hollywood Memorial Cemetary. You can google it. It is in East Hollywood. Not the best area , but the cemetary is safe and has parking inside.
Dont buy a star map, its a rip off. You will only see big gates.
another great place to go is The Greystone Mansion. its in Beverly Hills. It is really fun.
You can google that too.
Have a wonderful time!

dont do the studio tours. it takes all day long and once you start, you cant stop until its over. The red double bus tours are cool , it takes you all around Hollywood, but you can drive around too, I think that is better. Just stay to the major streets.
Oh,and if you like SUSHI, go to YAMASHIRO. Its in the Hollywood Hills, it is the best view in the city. If I can think of anything else, Ill put it up on here!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I printed your post for my daughter! She is a Make-a-Wish kid.....lots of medical problems....so she'll love seeing Hollywood as a special WISH! Blessings, Sandra

I hope your trip is a great one. I've tried the double decker red bus tours and they are really great. You get to see a lot. Make sure your camera batteries are fully charged before you leave.

I looked at that double decker red bus tour....Starline and it looks GREAT! I will book us on that tour for certain.

DD14 is into graveyards! So visit that cemetary will be right up her alley too!

So you don't recommend a studio tour eh? My kids are 8 and 14 so they might be too young anyway.

I like your idea of celebrity sighting possibilities at the coffee shops!

You both have helped us very much! Thank you! Sandra

Can you carry a stroller on the red bus tours? And a car seat isn't required on there for a toddler, right?

I've just checked out the Starline website - we'll probably take one of their tours in May. Thanks for the recommendation! :thumbsup2

My friend & I took the Hollywood trolley tour and a Starline tour of the stars homes for the heck of it. It was fun for us, but a lot of those homes are behind privacy fences and mostly we saw gates while they pointed out who lived there.

I think we liked the trolley tour more, but enjoyed both of them. We didn't go on the double decker bus, though.

You need to go the Hollywood and Highland. if you want to be in the center of Hollywood that is the place to go. They have tons of shopping there, places to eat, a great view of the Hollywood sign and much more. Recently I've been hearing about Spa Luce which is supposed to be the flagship spa of Hollywood and Highland. Seriously Hollywood and Highland is the hot spot for visitors and residents of tinsel town.

As for touring Hollywood. There are 3 things that I would suggest and they are as follows:

1) If you see a celebrity. Do not approach him asking for autographs or pictures as most of them are just trying to have a day or night out without getting harrased.

2) Do not go off the beaten path as Hollywood can be dangerous. Stay within 3 or 4 blocks of Hollywood and Highland/Vine especially going east of Vine toward downtown Los Angeles.

3) If youre there at night, Be more cautious and watch your surroundings.

These are the things I have learned while I grew up out in Southern California years ago, So I am talking from my past experiences.
