... which I'm not wildly enthusiastic about, but don't have a real problem with it.

However, I wonder whether any of you have experience of any perceived shift in attitude in the USA towards people with facial jewellery like this (and I appreciate that one nose stud isn't as startling as a lot of piercings). Is DD likely to encounter any problems with this on our trip to Florida? Should I tell her to wear a sticking plaster over it to get through immigration?! ;)

Hi Hilary

My eldest DD (19) has 3 facial piercings with studs and never encountered any problems while we were in WDW last year. Nor did she have any problems with security or immigration at either airports.

I always wanted a nose stud but thought it may look silly as I wear glasses :)

Tim : I believe if you remove the stopper thingy from one end you might have a nice pointy bit left which would be perfect for the job ;)

Hilary, I had a nose and an eyebrow pierced when we went to WDW in 1993 (and it was less common then) and I promise you I received the same level of courtesy as the non pirced members of our party :rotfl:

Incidentally, my mum hated my various piercings over the years ;) but I have grown out of them now :teeth:

Tim - a nose ring would avoid the little trouble you refer to ;)

"Nose stud! - how do you manage to pick your nose with one of them?"
"Tim : I believe if you remove the stopper thingy from one end you might have a nice pointy bit left which would be perfect for the job "

Oh yuk - why are boys so disgusting??? :rotfl2:

I'm glad you said you grew out of piercings Karen - my son's got 6 earrings and I hate them - always think your IQ goes down by 10% for each one (it's an age and a mum thing - no offence intended to anyone who's not my son!!) But he's 27 this year and shows no sign of ditching them yet!!!!!!) Help!!!!! :rolleyes2

I know someone who got serious blood poisoning from getting her nose pierced... Yuck.. I think they are VILE!!! ewwww - no Americans but we saw a few english kids with their parents with facial piercings last trip...

sorry.. I know some of you clearly have no problems with facial piercings.. but I find them intimidating on people...

When i was 18 i had my nose pierced. I never wore a big ugly stud or anything you can get some very pretty nose studs and i wouldn't say they look vile. My mum didn't mind me getting it done but my dad did protest a little as i think he thought i would be wearing a chain from my nose to my ear :rotfl: but i always wore very small nose studs like the ones on the argos website. My dad gave in and i got it done, wore it for about 18 months then i got fed up of loosing the studs when i was drunk (which was every weekend, being brought up in the army it was more like every other night :teeth: )

I'm sure there would be no problem at all with the US immagrations.

Michelle

Thanks for the ressurance that US immigration won't necessarily view us any differently if DD goes ahead with this!
