Ok so in our party - there are 7 of us.. one is a baby- so really only 6 eating.
we are on the delux dinning program.. so my question is. Since we tech are a prty of 7 they will add tip to our bill.. (which I detest, I don't think many deserve the tip they are getting)
anyway... they put a tip on the bill - which is coming off my dinning points..
so my bill should be $0 owed.. so really I could just leave the amount I choose right? Or will I actually get a bill for the amount of the tip?

Do I have a right to argue the amount - because really if our bill is say 200.00 at a buffett and all they do is bring drinks and clear a table.. why would I give them a 37-40 tip? for doing what???? In my opinion they are the ones that drive me the nuts the worst.

An automatic 18% gratuity is added for groups of 6 or more. Your baby is a non-issue. The 18% is based on the "list price".

You can certainly ask to have the 18% reduced if service is extremely poor. I don't think you can ask to have it reduced just because you think 18% is too much for a buffet. I see your point but you know the service charge will be 18%. No different then telling a manager $20 is too much for a plate of pasta and will they please reduce the price to something more reasonable.

JMO but it's kind of mean, wrong and rude to claim the service is horrible (possibly causing the server issues) just because you decided in advance you don't like the price Disney is charging you for service.

There is no honest way to reduce the service charge.

Sorry--looks like I should have just suggested you post in the tip thread.

My post isn't intended to debate the point.

Oh no I would never state service was bad unless it WAS ...I might say based on the service I recevied from a buffet dinning.. I think 18% is too high.. that is all I would say.

Tipping guides suggest 15-20% at a full service restaurant and 10-15% at a buffet restaurant. People tend to tip a few dollars at restaurants that are more like a cafeteria then a restaurant (Golden Corral).

Sounds like the extra 3-5% bothers you. Write a letter to Disney. I don't think anything will change. I think the automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more is part of the union contract.

Closed as the OP has the answer and the rest of the discussion is about personal tipping habits. Please see the first post of the Tipping Information sticky thread for info about the Restaurant Board's tip discussion policies and why we need to have them.
