How do they know already--with more than a month left of school?

It is determined after 3rd. quarter of their senior year. Grades closed today. It was accumalative from Freshman year and the principal said her average was a 97.9 through this quarter. They do not include any weighted averages for the ranking. So actually her grades have been higher on her report card, but this is what her actual average was....
