My DD (6) has been sick for about 3 weeks now. We all went through the nice cold, sore throat & sinus infections but my daughter just cant seem to shake whatever she has. The worst part is that it comes and goes. It started out with a sore throat and fever which we all had so I wasnt too worried. Then her ears started leaking ( she has tubes in her ears and I know its not uncommon for them to leak) she has been having fevers off and on but nothing hurts her...throat fine, tummy fine, ears fine etc. The past almost 2 weeks she has been extremly tired....she will sleep all night and then later in the morning she will fall asleep again and sleep for a few hours and just cant seem to shake the tired feeling. Everyone is telling me she is just trying to get better and that sleeping will help & to not worry but this is sooo not like her. She just looks run down and ragged, a little pale....fever comes and goes and she is tired all the time.....any thoughts ?? I will more than likely take her to the DR this week but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on what it may be so I could at least have a clue when I take her to the doctors. (( I know I probably shouldnt of waited so long but I am the type of mom that will not take her children to the doctor for every cough and sniffle...generally they get over whatever it is and since we all had it and it took a while to get over it I wasnt really concerned so please dont flame me for taking so long...my children are very healthy and I can probably count on 2 hands how many times they have all ever been to the doctor(each) with the exception of after DD was born and had problems with her ears.))

Sorry so long
Thanks in advance,
Tiffany

Trust your Mommy intuition and call the pediatrician. Let the doctor tell you if it is nothing or not. How high are her fevers? Is she drinking enough? She may have an ear infection. The pain you get is from pressure and since she has tubes the pressure would not buid up but they would leak. My DD just came home sick too. I think it is the flu! Ugh. We have just 5 sick day per calenday year and I only have 1 1/2 days left and its only March!

My dd3 had a fever on and off for 6 weeks and also said nothing hurt her. We took to the doctor when the fever first started and they found nothing. Finally after 6 weeks of on and off fever I took her back and it ended up she had strep throat. The doctor was even shocked because she acted fine and never complained about anything hurting.

Her fevers are generally 99-100 when she has them. Thats the strange thing, its not all the time, they come and go. As far as an ear infection I thought about that to but after her first set of tubes she had one and she knew it was infected because it still hurt :confused3 I am sure that is still a possibility but since she says it doesnt hurt I am just guessing that its not an ear infection :confused3

All I know is that mommy intuition is telling me something is wrong and I hate that :guilty: I just figured maybe someone out there went through the same thing and could shed some like on what it may be....I am hoping that its only an ear infection but what explains the major fatigue ?

I agree, time to see the doctor. In the meantime make sure she's drinking enough and not dehydrated. Best wishes.

Kristen,
Your DD didnt have a sore throat at all ??

she never complained about it and she was eating fine. She has a very high tolerance for pain. She fell off a set of bleachers and was at least 10 feet high. (some how she slipped through the slots) at my sons football game she let out a quick scream out of fear and then later told me how fun it was. She almost gave my parents and dh a heart attack, but she was fine. Thank god I was at work and not there or I would have gone crazy!

My kids are good at it too! :rotfl2:

Has she gotten tested for Mono? It kind of sounds like how I was when I had mono in college- although mine was in conjunction with a severe case of strep and a sinus infection- but the tiredness could be from that? I wasn't initially tested for mono but was after a friend told me it seemed like it was a possibility. Sure enough- I had it.

No one knows your kiddos like you do so whenever you get that feeling that there is something wrong I think that you need to follow up on it if only for your piece of mind. There should be a covering doctor on duty that you could speak with who might be able to put your mind at ease until tomorrow. I would definitely put in call and plan to take her in for a check up. Just be sure she is taking in enough fluids. When kids fell crummy sometimes they dont drink like they should and it doest take much for them to dehydrate with a fever.

Thanks guys :thumbsup2 I gave her a big cup of water and some childrens ibuprofin ( no fever but she has a headache) and she is resting.

I read that the flu could make a child fatigued for a few weeks after so maybe that is what she had :confused3

I am still going to call the DR's just because this isnt like her and I have never had to deal with this before so better to talk to a dr then just hope everything is okay...I would feel awful if it was something serious :guilty:

I'd second the mono test...

I had a sinus infection myself several weeks ago. My head hurt so much, all I wanted to do was close my eyes and rest, even with motrin. When the doctor checked my ear she said the drum was retracted from the fluid which is how she knew it was infected sinuses. Luckily it cleared up with a round of antibiotics, but it sure was painful. Hope your DD feels better soon.

I third the mono. I had that in high school. I was very tired and I remeber having headaches.
Hugs to you :grouphug:

Pneumonia. Go and get an XRAY to make sure, just because the DOC says well I don't hear anything...uh well...she has the symptoms. Can't always hear it.
Also do a mono test.

Took DD To the dr yesterday after her throwing up all over in Kmart ( how embarrasing...lol) Anyhow they tested her for strep and it came back positive. They are going to treat her for that and see how she does, if she is still having the headaches, fevers & sleeping all the time they are going to test her thyroid. She said she never would of guessed it was strep since DD's throat didnt hurt and it wasnt even really red but since that is how she first started getting sick 3 weeks ago ( sore throat & fever) she figured she would test for it anyhow.

Hopefully the antibiotics will work and we wont have to go back for blood work

No ear infection but it looks like apparently her tube may of gotten shoved back into her ear drum and so now all she could see was a hole in the ear drum but no infection :confused3

I had a feeling it would come back strep. I hope she feels better soon. Will they have to do anything about the tube being in the ear drum. I never heard of that. My son had them and they said they would eventually fall out.
