On Tuesday, my sister and I are flying to Orlando for a quick meeting with the builder that is building our houses. DD can't aford to miss school at this time, so she doesn't get to go. She will be taking mid-terms. She is only 15 and I have never left her with anyone other than my sister (and that was only when I had to travel on business). Although a very nice lady will be staying with her while we are gone and we will only be gone 4 days, she is very sad. She wanted me to promise her that we would not go to Epcot to see that Christmas lights without her. It breaks my heart to see her looking so down. She cried the other night for the first time in a very long time. She loves Disney World and she is a definite Momma's girl. It's a good thing I am going to be very busy working on details for the house while I'm there. It is going to be very hard on Mom being away from her!

Are you moving to Florida or just building a vacation home? If you're moving, then remind her of how close to WDW you all will be in the near future! How about bringing her home a surprise?? Maybe that would cheer her up and give her something else to look forward to upon your return home :)

Seaspray, we are moving to Florida in June when our home is finished. Pop Daddy, I'd love to have her go, but she would hate herself after the fact. She has a 4.00 grade point average. Maintaining her grades is very important to her. The school is not very accomodating about missing tests. I did promise her that I would not see the lights without her. I'll try to make it up to her. Next year, we can see the lights together as many times as we want since we will be living 10 minutes from Epcot!

I can imagine that your dd is very sad. But you know what sticks out at me when I read your post? It's how close you and your daughter are. That's an incredible blessing for both of you. It's funny how negative things can happen in our lives and highlight to us the wonderful things we have.

While it is perfectly understandable to be disappointed that she can't make this quick trip and that she'll miss mom, it sounds like perhaps she could use a gentle nudge to count her blessings. There are plenty of kids who never get to go to WDW. I can certainly understand your mommy guilt though!

It is wonderful that you have such a ckose relationship with her. I can't even imagine living so close to WDW - what I wouldn't give for that oppurtunity!!

It is also awesome that she is committed to her schoolwork and has a 4.0. DD is that way now, but only in K. I hope she turns out like your DD.
