dd is potty trained- should we put a pull up on for the plane?

She has been potty trained for 3 months and doing well. Occasional accidents but very rare. I am concerned about the plane ride. When she says she has to go, it is right away. If she has to go and we aren't able to get up, I don't want her to have an accident.

Should we put her in a pull up or just take our chances? Of course I will have her go right before we get on the plane. It is a little over 2 hours on the plane??

I would put the pull up on. Why take a chance? If she has an accident it will be way worse for you to have to clean and change her. Not to mention the seat cushion. I'm not sure what they do with soiled seats between flights. Are they able to swap them out for the next passenger?

If you want to encourage the toilet use, just ask every so often if she needs to go. Or take her with you when you go to see if that prompts a potty reaction. I would definitely ask if she hasn't been in a while or it's been 30 mins after having a long drink.

I always brought pullups with me at that age. Who knows, you could get stuck on a runway for more than an hour! It's happened to us.

Yes! I remember flying alone with my twins when they were 3, and I put pullups on them. Ds tells me he has to go potty as soon as the pilot announced that we were landing. 20 minutes later, the plane lands, but our gate wasn't ready. Then, we exit the plane (we were in the back), and made a b-line to the ladies room (Newark airport - small bathrooms, big line). And even though he was loudly announcing he really had to go, not one woman offered to let him ahead (I always let kids go ahead of me). He actually held it, but I was so happy during those minutes that he was wearing a pullup!

A few years ago we had our kids on the plane, my son was probaby seven - out of pull ups for a long time. We were ten minutes out and they put on the fasten seatbelts sign, had us put up our tray tables, etc. About three minutes later my son says he needs to go to the bathroom. I tell him to wait, we will be on the ground in a few minutes, and he can't go. We circled that darned airport for 50 more minutes. (I sent him to the bathroom and got yelled at by the stewardess. Which I possibly deserved, it wasn't safe to have him in the bathroom should we have gotten clearance to land. But it was that or have him wet his pants and his seat - which at seven would have been mortifying.)

are you worried that she will want to go back to diapers? If so why not put her underwear on and then a pull up that way she won't "feel" the diaper. If she makes it good, if not at least she has a pull up on ya know

When we put her pullup on for naps and at night, we always put her undies on over it, so she still knows she has her undies on!

They so change the cushion IF they know that someone has gotten it wet. On one flight when I was traveling alone, there was a wet seat. The person sat down and then realized it was wet. He got up fast enough that his pants didn't get soaked, but the FA came and removed the seat cushion. As she took it, you could tell from the smell that it was definately urine.

The flight was pretty full, but they did manage to find him another seat.
So, please, put a pull up on a small child or if you are not certain your child will make it thru the flight. And, if they do wet, please tell the FA so they can take that seat out of commission.

This is what we did right after our DDs' were potty trained. Underwear first, then pull-up over - that way if they have an accident, they will still feel the wet sensation that helps them learn to not have accidents, but you won't have to deal with a wet mess on an airplane.

We did pull-ups on the plane when my daughter was newly potty trained. If you're getting ready to take-off, for example, she'll have to stay put. It couldn't hurt to use them! We also did pull-ups on long car rides too for the same reason. It's not always possible to stop right away.

I was in this situation and unfortunately didn't think to put a pull-up on my little girl. Sadly, she got so upset during the landing that she peed all over me and the seat. I couldn't change until we got our luggage hours later at the resort. I did have a change of clothes for her at least.

In short, be safe and put the pull-up on.

I put a pull up on both my girls when we fly. As someone else mentioned, a short flight could wind up twice as long while you sit on a runway. My girls are old enough now though to know that it is just in case of an emergency. They still use the bathroom on the plane, etc.

They would be so upset if they had an accident and it would be a bummer of a way to start off a vacation.

We used pull-ups for the flight also. We are going to CO soon and I'll be putting my five year olds in pull-ups for the flight (they still wear them to bed so they won't think much of it) because my girls wait until the last second to tell me they need to go potty.

We also used pull ups on my DD who had just turned 3 last year. She had been trained for about 3 months also. They also came in handy in the parks. She did not like the public bathrooms at all but we did leave her underware on with the pull ups.

I would put the pull up on her and just say that she may want to nap on the flight and it is just like at nap time

Absolutely a pull-up. Too many "can't potty now" possibilities on a plane.

A pull-up is definitely called for in this situation! Don't worry about backsliding at all - kids know airplane have different rules than "normal".
