DD has a staph infection!!

I feel so bad right now. It has been quite a week. My youngest DD3 has been sick for the last week. She was running a fever from Saturday through Thursday and on Monday a ?cold sore appeared on her lower lip. I knew the pedi would say she had a virus so I waited until Wed to bring her in to be seen. Sure enough he says it is a virus. Well on Thursday the fever is still high and I notice her right index finger tip is very red and swollen and there is a nasty looking sore near her cuticle. I called the doctor again to make sure this wasn't the reason why she was running to fever and he called in an antibiotic. By Thursday night she had a red line running down the side of her finger down to the top of her hand. Back to the doctor again. He says to watch it carefully and call if the red line goes any further. He also noticed that the sore on her lip had spread into her mouth and on her tongue. Well Friday she was miserable the fever finally broke but she was acting sicker than ever. Her lip looked terrible. I spoke with the doctor again and he called in 2 new medications. If the line does not disappear or start to look better by this afternoon we have to go the hospital to have her admitted for IV antibiotics. Please keep your fingers crossed that this medicine helps. I don't want to spend the rest of the weekend at the hospital.

Gosh that is scary. I would insist on IV antibiotics, but I am a worrier & also older dd has a repaired heart defect. That is serious stuff. I hope the antibiotics work.

Oh, I know how she feels . I had blood poisoning and the red streak twice-both times from my foot(a blister once, and foot surgery the next). The antibiotics DID stop mine. But it is a very weird and scary feeling. Hope she gets better quick!

Poor baby. I've had a staph infection and it really drains you. I hope the medicines work and she doesn't have to go to the hospital.

This has happened to both my kids. The red line, the swelling....always a sign of infection. My DS showed his preschool teacher his red swollen finger and red line creeping up his hand and was told to "just show your mom when she picks you up".

They didn't think it was anything even though he complained to them. It was 2.5 hours before I'd know. Grrrr....I pointed out immediately that I should have been notified when I saw him, it was so obvious he had an infection.

I hope your DD is feeilng much better now, the antibiotic (orally) always worked for my kids, hope it does for her too. ((HUGS)) I know how you must feel.
