Sometimes it's being in the right place at the right time.
She got a call the end of Jan from a principal looking for a long-term sub (LD/ED classroom). DD never applied for the job. As a matter of fact, the job was never even posted. This was the same school district that DD did some of her student teaching in but not the same school. The principal called DD's cooperating teaching asking if her current student teacher would be good. The cooperating teacher said no, but she said that my DD would be.
DD went to meet the principal and was hired on the spot. This was supposed to be a 4 week position but it ended up being 6 weeks and ended last Friday.
In the meantime, she got a call from the SpEd Director at a high school where she did her field base teaching during her junior year. They were looking for a teacher and thought of DD right away. After a few days of going back and forth bringing in the documents that were needed, she got a call yesterday saying that she was hired and that they needed her to start today!
DD also interviewed for a other positions and got an offer for a para pro job with benefits as well as 2 other teaching jobs. She had a hard time thinking through all of the pro/cons of each job. She ultimately decided to take the job at the high school even though it's only a long-term sub job until the end of the school year. She'll actually be making less than the others but wanted the experience of teaching instead of working as a para pro and thought that the chances of getting a permanent job in this district would be better (much larger district, they know her, closer to home...).
As she said today, she's happy to have a big girl job.
She's also working for our park district in their special rec department so that will give her some money over the summer as well.
We're so proud of her!
