It's a Roborovski . Cutest little thing you've ever seen, but it's sooooooo hyper!!!!!!!!!:scared: I tried to get a picture of it, but it wouldn't stop moving. :lmao:

This is what a Robo looks like~

Her other hamster is a Black Bear and it's so gentle and calm.:cloud9: He is 2 yrs. old now.

The Robo is so tiny and cute! DD is really good with handling hamsters. I'm hoping that this one will get used to being handled. :thumbsup2

So cute!!

My blueberry hamster is pretty similar, very small and hyper. Her fur is a grayish/blue. Her name is Killer.:goodvibes

How cute!

My kids would love to get a hampster. Hubby is not so enthused about it so we would have to talk him into it.

What would you say is the biggest drawback to having one? Aside from the short life span.

There isn't one that I can think of. They do get stinky, so you have to stay on top of cleaning the cage. DD is good about taking care of it. She is 11 though.

This one is our 3rd hamster. The first one, a Syrian, lived close to 3 yrs. The Black Bear is about 2 yrs. old. With the second one, we thought we had bought a female hamster. The people at the shop where DH and DD bought her said it was a female. However, about 2 weeks later, DD came to DH and asked him, "What are these big things on his bottom?":laughing: You guessed it, we had a male.:laughing:

If you really want to get one, just do a little research before you decide on the breed. :goodvibes

We fell in love with them at the pet store too. BUT, then we talked to one of the employees and he suggested they really weren't a good choice for a pet (my kids are 13 and 15....so it's not their ages). They are just so small that they are scared of everything and tend to bite and can't really be handled.

We ended up with a rabbit (dwarf mix) a few months later. More work, but a better pet.

The smaller the they are the meaner they are. I think larger hampsters such as the black bear, panda bear are much better for kids. They are much calmer and easier to handle.

DD had a Robo for several years. She was the sweetest thing, but, man, was she fast!

Awww, how sweet. We love hamsters!! I had them growing up and now my children have one, Stuart. He is so gentle and sweet. Here are a few pictures!

I love that pic! :goodvibes

DD has held the Robo, but all it does is jump and run away. No biting so far. We'll see. :thumbsup2

My DD has requested one of these for her birthday next month. They are sooo cute but do they bite more than an average sized hamster?

The more you handle Rosita the better she'll get at being handled.

I'd suggest doing "something" each time you want to handle her. With our first Robo, we blew into her tank and fed her a treat. Then we picked her up. We got her trained that whenever we blew into her tank (gently, of course!) she'd scramble into her little plastic TV and we'd pick her up inside of the TV. Then, she'd walk into our hands.

We loved her so much. :lovestruc They do have short life-spans, though.

They do bite but not if you treat them with respect and you make them feel safe. Our three girls didn't like heights, so we made sure whenever we handled them, they were low or we didn't let them see how high they were.

Oh, and if you ever lose her in the house, I know how to find them! You turn off lights and every noisy thing off and just listen. Try walking into darkened rooms and try and hear them. They squeak as well as make noise if they are nibbling on whatever they are chewing. I found one of our ladies in our spare closet munching on a cardboard insert of a hanger.

I don't think they do. I do know that Robos don't like being picked up from above, as in putting your hand over their head to reach in over them to pick them up. Ours always preferred to be on something that got picked up, then they'd (we had three who did this) gladly walk from the item to your hand.

We had a small plastic TV, an excercise ball, and a wheel that all "rode" in as we picked them up from their cages.

We have a dwarf chinese hamster named Luna, and it is the sweetest little creature you can imagine. She has never bitten my DDs, and only bit me once (when she got a piece of tape wrapped around her leg, and I had to peel it off - can't say that I blame her for that one!). My daughter probably holds the hamster at least a half an hour a day, and Luna loves to lick her, just like a dog!

We haven't seen any drawbacks to having her. Even though we were warned about the smell, we haven't really noticed anything too bad.

OP - Enjoy the newest addition to your family!
