DD flying with her godmother?

I'll be in Orlando on business in May so my dearest friend and I are planning a last minute WDW trip with our kiddos. Since I'll already be down there on business, she'll be flying with the 2 girls (both 2.5) and her mother. Has anyone sent a young one with someone other than a parent on a flight? Has the airline asked for any proof they are authorized to travel with said person? I called US Air and they said no problem but the customer service rep was obviously reading from a scripted response and sounded a bit unsure.

I was planning on having my husband draft a letter that we'd have notarized authorizing her to provide any medical care and that she was authorized to take her from point a to point b so to speak. And, we'll hopefully have her passport by then as well.

Any thoughts from the more experienced travelers?

I think the letter is a good idea but I think you should take it one step more and have both your husband and yourself sign it. that way there will be no chance that they dont let her take your DD, they may not even ask for proof. in the day and age we live in were many parents have different last names from there children.

I've taken my nephew to WDW in the past (used JetBlue each time) and nobody has ever asked for any sort of paperwork/documentation.

My sister and brother-in-law always send me off with a notorized letter giving me permission to be traveling with him, and also pemission to authorizie any sort of medical treatment in an emergency.

Unless your flying out of the country you won't need anything to fly. Kids do not need ID to fly so they won't check anything they will look at her ID and say 2 kids end of story. I have taken my nephew many times.

We just flew with my girlfriend's 13 year old daughter, as well as my DS. 4 people, 2 different itineraries. No problem whatsoever. Kids under 18 don't need ID. However I did notice that at each checkpoint the kids were pointedly asked what their name was.

The letter is not a bad idea, better safe than sorry. I always take along a copy of DS's birth certificate, and we'll be getting passports this summer.
