And she spent 50% more than last years dress.

(Of course - last year's dress was only $20 - so no complaints here.):goodvibes

I love coming across a good clearance sale!

I still don't "get" why they can't wear a dress to more than one school function, but since the total of dresses for 2 homecomings is only $55 - I can't complain too loudly!

Does she have a date for homecoming already? :confused3

:rotfl: Ah so things haven't changed much at all! My DDs are now 34 & 35 y/o they were in high school at the same time. Same "battle cry" Wear a dress twice! ? (times two!) OMG clearance sales saved our butts many times I miss those days I turly do they grow up too fast. Your DD did great may she have a wonderful time

$55 for two dresses...consider yourself lucky to have a young lady who is good at finding bargains...

That's great! She sounds like me-- I almost always had my dress 3-6 months prior to the event. Then I didn't have to deal with the mad Dress Dash a couple of weeks before the dance and typically got my dress way on sale!

I bought my senior prom dress the summer before my senior year and absolutely loved it!! It was only $40 and I almost re-wore it for my wedding it was so beautiful!

My oldest dd has 3 dresses from previous years(who is a senior this year) and my youngest dd will be a freshman this year. I told her to wear one of the dresses we already have~Did I say something wrong because she and alot of other people think thats wrong???!!!

Because would you want her to be known as the girl that wore the same dress over and over? :confused3 Homecoming dresses aren't that expensive if you go to a place like Deb's and are usually really cute. Now, I did buy my DD19 a dress that was about $100 when she was 15 and she it's still in the formal rotation now! :thumbsup2 So that was money well spent.

Congrats on finding a good deal, I think I'm going to take DD17 shopping for her homecoming dress soon too, theirs is usually in September.

Who needs a date? Around here the kids all just go.

Here it is more of a date thing.

I saw a lot of prom dresses at our big Department store for 75% off-smart thinking!

And who cares about a worrying if you have a date already?:confused3

Because if you live in a school where homecoming is a date thing and you don't get a date, you wasted money. Sorry, I am just practical that way.

Thank goodness that all 3 of the high schools my girls have attended haven't been that way. Some kids go with dates, but for the most part, the kids all just go.

Hey, that is not bad! Good for her scouring the sales racks! My mom and I bought my junior prom dress the summer before my junior year-- a beautiful, Cinderella-like, kinda 50's-formal style ballgown for $30 at Macy's!! We caught an amazing post-prom clearance sale.
We waited until spring of my senior year to get that prom dress-- I hated everything and HAD to buy a dress for $100 that I didn't really like. So, kudos to your daughter for shopping in advance and finding something she loved for a great price!!

It doesn't matter...they go as a whole group. Last year - her group was 15 people about 5 couples and and 5 "singles". When my DD was a freshman - she went with just a group of girls.

My DD is 13 and has 9 or 10 dresses upstairs that are formal gowns and only one has a real purpose at the moment and it is for my brother's wedding next July !! The others are kind of sitting there and I got them really cheap and she won't let go of them. 2 were worn at a wedding previously, one by her and one by her older sister. Her's probably doesn't even fit her anymore and there is also a dress in the that she will wear for Halloween but I did not include that in the count. It is a long formal gown also in Purple. I don't think she'll wear half of them once, never mind twice! Love the clearance sales, always a Just-In-Case dress there.

I wish my wife was more like you concerning clothes. The daughters prom dress this last spring cost over $700. She had a dress that is beautiful that she only wore for mid-night Mass, along with other dresses. I thought that it would make a nice dress for the prom, it would have, heaven forbid she wear it again. It's like a big competition or something.

Wow, that almost as much as my wedding dress which came in at $850.

Even if my kids didn't have a "date" date, they always had lots of friends of the opposite sex who would go with them as their "date." As others have said, it's a social event - what's wrong with just going with a group of friends?

I'm glad most areas have gotten past the Noah's Ark mentality of my teen years - you know, everyone had to be paired up with someone of the opposite sex to be allowed on the boat. ;)

When were at the mall finishing school shopping my dd bought her homecoming dress and her snowball dance dress for Jan. I got her two formal dresses for 50$:goodvibes. Her homecoming dress was not on clearance but it was 50% off and another 20% with my Penney's card.

Her homecoming dress is not going to fit if she gains 2 lbs but I saved the receipt and can be returned with 90 days.
We are off to WDW just before labor day and then I start the 2nd year of nursing school with clinical weekend rotations at the hospital, so this one less thing I have to worry about!;)

Good for your daughter:thumbsup2
As for not wearing the same dress twice--I do get that. I do not like to wear a formal dress twice to occasions that have the SAME group of people at them. So, I will wear the same dress for formal night on the cruise for years because there are different peopel on each cruise, but for the company Christmas party I would prefer not to wear the same thing the next year. I would wear the dress I wore to the Chrsitmas party to a formal wedding, then a friends Christmas party, out for an ice dinner, etc but not again to a work event with the same (or mostly the same) attendees.

Wow, that almost as much as my wedding dress which came in at $850.

It is MORE than my wedding dress was. I spent $400 plus $50 for alterations (minor) and $75 on shoes. Adjusting for inflation it may come in close to the $700:eek:

I agree--and even in my teen years we often went as groups or with a friend. I really do not like the idea of pressuring teens to HAVE to have a date in order to take part in a high school tradition. Why push romantic relationships on kids?:confused3 I am floored that some schools still do that.
