Hello from sunny, if chilly, AKV. I am typing this from our 1 BR villa, trying to ignore my work I am supposed to be doing today but instead decided to start sharing our vacation with everyone. I will use this post a stream of consciousness sort of threat and try to post at least once a day (some more, some less).
This trip is specifically for our DD's 9th Birthday (29th of January) and it grew from a long weekend to a nine night trip! She loves AKV and chose it as her resort and I certainly don't disagree with her choice.
We left Cleveland, OH yesterday and had a nice, uneventful non-stop flight, landing at MCO around 6:15 PM. One trick we have learned when using DME is for one of us (usually me) to go grab our luggage we checked in and one of use (usually DD) to go check in to DME. Even though we could have checked our luggage all the way through to the resort, we really like already having our bags and not having to wait for them to be delivered. Especially when we arrive at MCO after 3 PM or so.
There was one stop (PC) before ours and then we arrived at AKV and checked in by 7:30 PM. This was one of the shortest landings to check-in using DME we have ever had.
This is about our 10th trip over the past five years and I always wonder "is this the trip where it becomes a bit less magical?". Well, that was dispelled about thirty seconds after being dropped off at AKV. There at the entrance was a smiling CM just greeting people entering the lodge. She greeted us with a big "welcome" and a smile to match and was a great first experience.
Check-in was smooth, however, the line behind me grew quite quickly due to the DME drop off. They didn't seem to have enough front desk staff to help. We had a great check-in person who acknowledge our DDs birthday and gave her the birthday button to wear.
The 1BR in the Jambo House are just amazing, IMHO. There is a lot of space and our DD loves sleeping on the pull out chair. We dropped our bags in the room and went to Mara's for supper. This is one of our favorite QS locations in all of WDW. I had the vegetarian flatbread, DD had the chicken breast nuggets and DW had couscous and soup. Fantastic all the way around.
Back upstairs to our room to unpack and call it a night. I woke up early to work from the room and it is so great to be working and have a savannah with the animals off the side. Just a great experience. DD and DW are going to DTD for shopping today while I work and bringing me back something from Earl of Sandwich!
