We have tried selsom blue, head and shoulders and t-sal. It seemed to go away over the summer when she was swimming daily, but now it is terrible again.
I have watched to make sure she is washing her scalp and not just getting the ends of her hair. And she is rinsing well. Poor kid is getting very self-conscious about it, and I might add, its really pretty gross.

Any advice or suggestions??

My DS14 has this too -- two different hairdressers have suggested teatree shampoo and conditioner. I know you can get it at Supercuts -- it's a name brand shampoo (Paul Mitchell?). I just keep forgetting to pick it up, so I can't tell you if it works. I would stop the dandruff stuff though -- that's probably aggravating it, making the scalp too dry. Maybe try baby shampoo for a while -- we started that and it helped somewhat.

Are you sure it's dry scalp? If it's at all scaley or thicker than tiny specks, try Nizoral. Whenever we have problems, we just have to use it about once or twice (at most) a month and the problem goes away.

tar shampoo. We use it for my dd's psorisis of the scalp.

My son had this really bad when he was young. The only thing that work for him was Sebulex (usually sold behind the pharmacy counter). I'm better the Nizoral would work too.

Take her to the dermatologist. They will be able to give her something to put on her scalp. When I was a child I had the same problem, and the doctor was able to clear it up after two weeks.

I know this sounds crazy but my son(8) has dry scalp. Listerine..pour onto childs head and leave on for 2 to 3 hours and then rinse and shampoo. It really works and his hair smells great too!

T-Gel shampoo. I have eczema and this is the only thing that works on my scalp

DD had this problem too when she was younger...Nizoral worked wonders for her

You can also try apple cider vinegar it's supposed to help balance the ph levels on the skin I tried it once and did see some improvement with my dd

We have gone through this too. DH has it a lot in the winter when is it dry. The kids also when they were younger. We used a fine tooth comb and comb off the loose skin. then we we put a little EVOO on the scalp and rub it in. Just use a little EVOO it goes a long way.

If it was truly dry scalp, it seems unlikely it would go away when she was swimming daily, since chlorine and other chemicals are drying. We thought my DD had dry scalp, but it turned out to be cradle cap (yes, on a 10 year old) because her hair is thick and curly and wasn't getting completely dry before she went to bed.

I suffer from this myself and I have tried everything from prescriptions to over the counter the only thing that works the best but takes time is Aloe Vera gel twice a day. Since it is all natural I put it on after shampooing in the morning then again at night once I am in for the night. Only need to apply to the effected area and massage in.

For years I had this problem. Always a few patches of dry, scaly, itchy skin on my scalp. It would help to use T-gel (not T-sal, that one is clear, t-gel is brown) and let it sit on my scalp for 5 or 10 minutes before rinsing.

The best thing to help me however hasn't been any kind of shampoo. When I started taking Medrol for my allergies (it is a prenisone type medicine) it cleared up and pretty much stays away as long as my allergies are not flaring up or I stop taking the Medrol. I would recommend seeing a Dermatologist or an Allergist to see if it could be something other than regular dandruff.

sounds like psoirasis.. goes away because of the sun in the summer comes back in the fall/winter when we aren't outside as much. Try a tar shampoo. If that doesn't help you'll need to see a dr.. just a warning my dd's shampoo was 92$ WITH insurance... good luck
