Another question....where can we find what the cost is to maintain our DVC points? We have an idea for the initial cost, but how do we know what the yearly cost will be? Or at least an estimate, I'm sure it's different for different resorts.

Hi Stacy!

Here's what the maintenance fees are currently:
OKW $3.49/point
BV $4.10/point
WL $4.01/point
BCV $3.97/point
VB $4.37/point
HH $4.69/point

Hope this helps!

Stacy....there is no way to accurately predict the future of the maintenance costs per point. But there are a few things that might put your mind at ease.

By contract, they cannot rise more than 15% in any given year.

History indicates a much smaller percentage increase than that. I've seen more in the 5-6% range each year so far at VWL. And others have actually seen their dues drop from one year to the next.

DVD cannot, by law, make a profit on these dues. They must be used to cover the cost of upkeep. So unless the cost of upkeep soars, there is no reason to think that the DVC dues will go up anywhere near that 15% cap.

Hope this helps.

Just curious...if a resort wanted to build a major upgrade, say to a pool, could DVC request an exemption to the 15% ceiling?

If dues will increase more than 15%, DVC must get approval from the owners to do so.

Something like a pool upgrade could probably be done with an assessment, but I'm not certain what the requirements are an assessment. I would think that a pool upgrade would fall into a "capital improvement" category and may not be covered under maintenance fees. This is where a special assessment might be the indicated vehicle to accomplish such an addition.

Good question!
