DCL with points..anyone done it?

But I'd recommend insurance - lots of variables with a cruise (or more than with a land vacation) so I would insure the trip. (It's something that can be added later, it doesn't have to be purchased when you book the cruise.)

I just wanted to add that if you (or anyone in your party) has a pre-existing medical condition that generally to get that covered by travel insurance you have to purchase the insurance within a week or two of booking the cruise to get the condition covered (and be medically fit to travel when you book - it is complicated). My younger son has medical issues so I did a lot of researching of travel insurance.

But it is true that if you don't have those medical issues you could buy it later - just buy it also before there are any named hurricanes that could affect your cruise too.

The cruise is awesome.:thumbsup2

I did poke around on the DCL site pricing cruises in July and more off-season (like Sept/Oct) and it seemed to me that in July it was about the same price per person (adult or child) to cruise. Adults were more than kids but not so big a price difference as I found in the Fall (for cash). I can't remember how that compares to the points you spend to cruise but in the summer it might be more worth it to pay in cash for the adults and put the kids on points.

I am looking at the last week in Feb. Hope that's a good time to cruise! Here in PA it gets to the point that you just can't take the winter doldrums anymore and sunshine and flowers is awesome. I have to research a lot...I am really funny about my room and I am not fond of heights.

I read that the aft of the ship is better for people who might get seasick...any thoughts?

We have been on 5 DCL trips so far and all using points. It has always been a simple process. We go every other year. This past summer we did the MED cruise. It took many points for the 3 of us but our room would have been close to $12K for us 3. I have never added up what all the costs would have been, but I do know that long before our first cruise in 1999, we had added up all of our stays at OKW and we were ahead of what we had paid for our timeshare. (even including maintenance fees)
Sometimes it can be embarrassing to tell someone you paid $75 for the cruise.....but I say that's what you have DVC for! Trades are good...we even traded for Disneyland Paris back in 1996....and can't wait to see where DCL goes in 2009!!!
