I was hoping someone here might be able to answer a couple questions for me. While looking for souvenirs from DCL on ebay I came across an auction for a DCL wish pearl necklace. It is silver and the pearl holder is in the shape of mickey's head, the kind where you have to dig the pearl out of the oyster yourself. I was wondering how much they cost on the ship and where they are sold? Also is there anyplace I could order them from now? I was thinking of giving one to both my daughter and her friend for their birthdays and having them wish to go on a Disney Cruise. Then like magic we will sail off ten days later. Thought it would be cool now I just gotta find two of them!.... Maybe one for me too, they are kinda cute  Thanks for any help in advance.

the wish pearl necklaces...there is a mickey and a minnie one. they cost $30 on board in the gift shop. debated on one all week, the last day I stopped in to purchase and they were all gone. OH WELL

Thanks for that info. Do you think there is any way they would sell them to me over the phone via credit card and send me two or three? I would really love to have them before we go in November this year. Thanks again.

Sorry, DCL doesn't have a merchandising department like WDW. :( It would be great if they did! Your options are to get them on Ebay or have a fellow DISer pick them up for you & mail them.

I never saw these onboard! Now I will have to look closer. :)

I think the problem might be in the fact that once the oyster is cracked open, someone needs to drill a tiny hole in the pearl in order to insert it into the Mickey head charm. At least, this is the way these necklaces are usually done, not positive about the DCL ones since I didn't do one while on the cruise.

Also, I believe the oysters are kept under water until someone chooses it and cracks it open, otherwise it would dry out and might get a little smelly. ???

I think you have a wonderful idea, just not sure that these necklaces are the way to go, only for logistical reasons. I hope you come up with a fun way to surprise your daughter and her friend :sunny:

This sounds like a neat necklace. I would love to see a picture of it, but haven't found one on EBAY yet. How did you find it?

I bought one of those on the Magic...they had Mickey & Minnie and a flower shapped "cage" for the pearl. I chose the flower shapped one. The pearl is a creamy white one and the little "cage" has a clasp that opens and you put the pearl in and close it by stringing the chain through the clasp.

I do believe I paid around 30 something for it. I really love it and can't wait to purchase another one on our Dec. trip.

Not sure if this is allowed here but the link for the auction I saw is :

As you see the auction is over so rest assured I am not trying to sell you all anything, lol.

Also in these gift packages the oyster is in the can you see on the left of the package in some kind of preservation liquid and water. You pop open the oyster and get your pearl out and wash it off then stick it into the little mickey cage pendant you see on the right.

These wish pearl necklaces with the oyster in a can seem to be pretty popular nowadays and most you find are around ten dollars but you know how it is, I of course would be willing to pay the inflated price for the Disney one :) . I guess I will wait until it is a month or two closer to our cruise and try to recruit a DISer to help me out. Thanks for all the input here.

My sister bought one last year on her cruise, so I of course had to buy one on the August repo last year. If I recall they were a special of the day, and I didn't notice that this was the special until near the end of the day so they didn't have much choice left. There originally was a mickey, minnie, dolphin, flower, and I think one other choice. I think I ended up with the flower. After we got home I put it with all the stuff from the cruise I needed to go through after things calmed down. We had a flood in our place when we were gone, then had problems with the place we were living in, and had to move. So all my stuff from the cruise got packed somewhere and I haven't seen it since last September. I really must find that whole box of stuff.

From what I remember though, you open the oyster shell yourself (I think there were tools included) and the charm was made in such a way so all you had to do was slip the pear inside it.

I think the price of 30 sounded about right.

If you want one I suggest you get one early, because I tried to find out if there was a way to order a different variety and was told it wasn't possible.

Also if it is a special of the day, they may let you still buy it if you ask. They had watches on sale one day, and I had been looking at them, but decided against buying one. The very next day my watch died, and DH left his watch at home so we were watchless, I refused to spend the rest of the cruise without a watch (scared we would miss the ship in port) and ran down to the store 10 minutes before closing. They were able to bring out a few watches for us to look at. We both ended up buying one.

I got one a few months back and love it. It's sooo cute and I get lots of compliments. I purchased mine through the cast store so I'm not sure about the availability onboard but I'll check Sunday... =o)

The oyster comes in a little can with salt water, chemicals in it. With a nice warning about not drinking it... duh! The color will vary and they mean different things. It's very nice and a good souvie.

The Wish pearls are nice and they do come in a container as explained above - each pearl color has a different meaning since, if I remember correctly, the color represents different sayings as for health, wealth, etc - they can come in the colors of white, grey, gold but you do not know they color until they are opened - they have always been very popular at the shop and the cost is $30.00 and if you pay more than that for it, then its overpriced.
Hope this helps
always
Shirley

Yes, it's $29.95!

the SKU # 0013470012

The pearl comes in a can with a pull top lid.

DD just happened to have it handy! :confused3

You open the pendant and place the pearl inside and then close it shut!

I also bought one and love it. I had not gotten on the day it was a "special" and when I mentioned it to a CM, how much I had wanted to get one, she went and got me one from the back.

Funny you say that...I just order two these pearls necklaces (DCL/Minnie Mouse) from WDW Merchandising when our friends who were on 14-day repo cruise found out they were sold out last September.

I don't have the phone number for WDW merchandising, but it you provide them the SKU number, they will be able to process your order.

PM if you have any questions.

Steve

don't they also do do something similar in EPCOT - at the big Dept Store in Japan (- possibly also at DTD?) I did not pay much attention, but I thought they had the pick your pearl kind of thing there? Hope someone else can come along and know for sure - that may explain why you can go through WDW merchandise for them, if available. :confused3

:wizard:

Yes, in epcot they do something similar in I believe the Japan gift shop. They have a large tank with oysters in it and you get to pick the one you want. They open the oyster for you, clean the pearl, measure it and give a running commentary on it's quality, size, color, etc. My dd5 and dd7 did this last October and loved it. dd5 had one above average size so they rang the gong for it and dd 7 had a black (I think they called it black it's dark in color) pearl which they said was the rarest and rang the gong for it also. They just got the pearls in a little plastic back with the size written on it. I think they had jewelry settings available but we were running late for our dinner reservations and didn't have time to investigate. I'm sure they'll want one of these pearls if they see 'em in the gift shop!

I bought my DD a Minnie wish pearl on the cruise. She loved opening the oyster and the pearl slips right into the "cage" of the Minnie head. No need for drilling or special care. The pearls at Epcot are a higher quality I think, but the setting is purchased separately.

I've actually seen the wish pearls for sale in our local Stop & Shop. There are a number of on-line companies that sell them also. They don't have the Mickey or Minnie necklace option though.

The shop in Japan does have pearls. When we got ours a couple of years ago, the pearls were cultured salt water pearls. (There are also carts in Downtown Disney and Yacht/Beach Clubs that do the salt water pearls as well.) I had purchased the Disney wish pearls for all of my nieces for Christmas one year. I believe the pearls included with the Wish Pearl kits are fresh water (these are typically smaller and may not be perfectly round) which is why they are less expensive. But they are still very pretty.

Thank God for Google! I was just searching for more info on the 7 pearls I purchased at Mitsukoshi over in Epcot/Japan. I picked my 7 clams/mussels and the first one had 2 yes 2 black pearls in it that were 7mm. I got the "Gong" and a Congrats and everyone was clapping!!! The other one was a 7 3/4 Gold pearl, 2 were rose colored at 7 1/2 and the other were a white at 6mm to 7 1/4...They are 13.95 and What an experience!!! Absolutely loved it. They have tons of beautiful settings from yout to choose from. Don't miss the "Japanese Drum" performace outside on the Pagoda. I think it is every 15-30 mins. 3 people playing in such unison it sounds like one drum. You WILL be dancing!!!! :cheer2: :cool1: I was thinking of having my pearls appraised. Anyone done this yet? Also the cart in DownTown Disney has Hawaiian pearls, not the other ones. They are a bit cheaper but I saw this on our way to Wolfgang Pucks for dinner after I had purchased mine.

Also!!! Please remember to WEAR your pearls!!! They are a living organism that depend on the oils of your skin to survive! If not they will deteriorate from the inside out....Just an FYI
