At WDW, a child becomes a Disney 'Adult' at age 10 for dining packages, park entrance, etc.

At what age does a child become an 'adult' for cruise pricing?

My niece will be turning 10 next year and we're wondering if they need to cruise prior to her 10th birthday for her to be priced as a child or does DCL differ from WDW trips?

TIA!

For pricing cruise rates child rates are ages 3-12. Teenagers 13-17 pay adult prices. And children under 3 pay 50% of the child rate. That being said, if the child is the second person in a room, they will pay the adult price, regardless of age (first 2 people in a room pay adult price). Kid prices don't kick in unless they are the 3 or 4th person in the room.

For the kids clubs - Oceaneer's is ages 3-12; Edge - ages 11-14; and Vibe - ages 14-17.

From the main site (WDWInfo.com):
All cruises are priced based on two adults in the stateroom. So, even if you are one adult traveling with a child, the price is the same as if there were two adults in the stateroom. After the two adult price, the third and fourth passenger in the stateroom are charged a lower rate. If you are traveling alone, DCL will charge you 100% of the second adult's cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes) in addition to the full fare for the first adult.

**NOTE** Teenagers will be Charged adult fares (13-17). Child rates apply to ages 3-12. Children ages 0-2 pay 50% of the child rate.

This does not impact access to areas of the ship that are designated as "18 and over" (like the Spa, Adults only pool, and Palo).

DCL defines children as ages 3 to 12. However, if your niece is the second person in the room, she will be charged as an adult.

I wish the cost of going solo wasn't so steep. I would love to take one by myself out of NYC.

My DS14, the third person in our stateroom, is 35% and 30% of the adult rate on our upcoming cruises.

3rd passenger (4th, 5th) rates are always lower than the first 2 passengers, regardless of age. However, a 3rd passenger who is 14 will be charged the same as a 3rd passenger who is 25 or 65. Child rates (3-12) and infant rates (0-2) are even lower than the "adult" additional passenger rates, as long as that child/infant is a 3rd/4th/5th passenger in the stateroom.

Enjoy your cruise!

There is an exception to this and that is when Disney offers a Kids sail free offer, which is rare, but has happened, then anyone under 18 is considered a child for purposes of the promotion.

Odd, i thought it went up as my son got older... had no idea 3rd roomie was same price regardless.

DCL stopped the Kids Sail Free offers when they started doing the last-minute reduced *GT rates.

The first two passengers are the same rate regardless of age. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th are at a lower rate which varies by age.

Well, yes, it could have gone up.

Let's say the full price for an adult (1st two adults on the reservation) is $1000. A 3rd person's fare is determined by their age. A 3rd adult will be a percentage of $1000 (let's say 75% $750). A 13-17 year old pays the adult rate. A 3-11 year old pays anywhere from 30%-35% of the adult cost and an under 3 pays 50% of that.

Now, those actual percentages/numbers can vary from cruise to cruise, so it may have seemed like the cost was escalating as he got older, but it was really just the cost increasing.

I find it weird that DCL says teenagers pay the adult fare... my DS will be 16 when we cruise and we were charged significantly less than the adult fare for him. Not quite the child fare, but close.

I remember up until just a few years ago when kids under 3 were free....well they just paid port taxes not a cruise fare!!!

Those were the days!!!

You can price your cruise in the Disney Cruise website without giving them any personal info other than the number of adults and the ages of the children. Once you pick the room type it will tell you the price per person.

Adult 2 $1,215.00

Taxes, Fees &
Port Expenses
$460.52
Stateroom 1 $4,409.52

Were there 2 other adults booked to the same stateroom, so he was booked as the 3rd passenger? Additional passenger fares are reduced regardless of age. Children will be reduced even further when booked as 3rd/4th/5th passenger.

Enjoy your cruise!
