we booked insurance thru dcl thier package. we booked air not with dcl it is non refundable . if my dgs cant go (other gm is dying) will disney cover that? or his trip?

you should check your coverages. I think death is covered for immediate family members, but it may actually have to occur (sorry, sounds bad I know). Your trip would be covered, but not air. It should be in your information or bug your TA to give you the answers. Good luck.

Yes, DCL would be the one you would call if you booked directly with them. If the cost of your airline tickets was factored into the insurance policy it should be covered.

Not knowing which policy you purchased I pulled this from Access America's website under their Navigator Comprehensive Policy. It is the definition of family member.

Family Member means Your spouse; parent; child(ren), including children who are, or are in the process of becoming, adopted; sibling; grandparent or grandchild(ren); step-parent; step-child; or step-sibling; in-laws (parent, son, daughter, brother or sister); aunt; uncle; niece; nephew; legal guardian; ward; or business partner; whether or not they travel with You.

A. TRIP CANCELLATION AND INTERRUPTION PROTECTION*

Trip Cancellation coverage provides benefits for loss(es) You incur for Trips cancelled up to the time and date of departure. Trip Interruption coverage provides benefits for loss(es) You incur for Trips that are interrupted or delayed after the time and date of departure.

Any serious Injury or any unforeseen serious medical condition:

Occurring to You or a Traveling Companion, which is so disabling as to cause a reasonable person to delay, cancel, or interrupt their Trip;

Occurring to a Family Member that is considered life threatening or requiring hospitalization; or

Occurring to a Family Member requiring Your care.

For Trip Cancellation benefits, an actual examination by a licensed Physician must take place within 72 hours of the cancellation. For Trip Interruption benefits, this examination must take place during Your Trip. The Physician may not be a member of Your or Your Traveling Companion's immediate family or yourself, or an immediate family member of the person whose condition caused the cancellation or interruption.

Your death.

Good luck. Mary

huckster - I could be mistaken but I do not believe DCL's insurance will cover any of the airline expenses as they were not booked thru DCL. Maybe some else can comment on this aspect of it as well. Sorry about the news which resulted in you asking this question. - Mike

As far as I know the insurance you purchased will only cover items that were booked through DCL. They'd have no way of knowing what your other arrangements were, so they wouldn't be included in the insurance.

We asked our TA about this and she was definite that the DCL insurance would NOT cover our air tickets - not just the cost if we had to cancel, but also interuption/delay if our flight didn't get in on time and we missed the ship!

For this reason we declined the DCL insurance and looked elsewhere. We found that we got more insurance for less money by going elsewhere. There are several different companies and we ended up choosing a policy through CSA. (We had a very poor experience with insuremytrip.com - RUDE customer service -so we bought direct from CSA.)

This is the first trip we have insured, but we are flying from Chicago in late October and weather could be an issue. Also, my DH recently had a problem with a disc in his back that had him nearly immobile for a week (doing fine now after a bunch of therapy), but we were worried about what it would cost us if he injured it again right before we were going to leave. The doctor's are telling him that if he re-injures it he will almost certainly be in surgery! To get "pre-existing medical condition" coverage, we had to purchase within 14 days of paying the deposit on our cruise.

I hope this helps...

Pamela

Sorry Huckster I didn't mean to give out false info. I assumed you would be able to provide your air info to DCL but u know what happens when you assume :).
