Hello fellow Disers. I've been reading some conflicting information about Galveston transportation. My family is thinking about booking the October EBPC cruise, and I need clarification on a couple things:

1. Is DCL offering transportation to Houston/Hobby airport? If so, how much? What is the earliest flight I could take home?

2. If not, and I can only fly out of IAH, I read that it is a farther drive and on a couple sites I saw that the cost was $35pp and others that said $45pp. How much is it actually? Also, What is the earliest flight I can take from here?

3. Finally, anyone have any personal experience with Galveston Express? What are your thoughts? Do they run to both airports?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't help with all of the above, but as of January - DCL only offered transportation to/from IAH. Yes, it is further away than Hobby, but not drastically - I think 15, 20min? We ended up flying into Hobby and renting a car, and I first priced out IAH on American vs Hobby on Southwest - and the driving time difference wasn't enough to factor into the equation. My notes had DCL transportation as $35pp each way, but maybe it changed since then and that's why you've seen different prices mentioned?

We didn't want to be rushed and booked late afternoon/early evening flights for us and my parents (who don't live near us), but we could have been to the airport by about 10:30am - and that was after taking a shuttle back to the resort we stayed at prior to the cruise to get our rental car. So many cruises into Galveston run late b/c of fog, though, that it might be dicey banking on that. Unless that's a winter issue, more than October?

Someone out there should have info on Galveston Express. I know others from my meet group talked about using it. Hopefully someone will see this and speak up. Maybe pop into the meet group here on the boards for that cruise? Renting a car only works for cruises departing from and arriving in Galveston b/c there is exactly one option for renting at car near the port itself, and as far as I am aware - it's pretty inconvenient. I have to imagine practically everyone on the EBPC will use a shuttle service instead.

I just called yesterday to book DCL transportation from the Galveston cruise terminal to the airport. They do not offer transfers to Hobby. It cost us 45$ per person for one way transportation.

Hope this helps!

Aby

I have booked Galveston Express from the port to Houston Hobby (we'll fly Southwest) when we arrive on the EBPC in November. Fare is $30 per person.

I booked a later shuttle than we might actually need if the ship docks on schedule, but I was concerned that we might get delayed due to fog and our flight is not until mid-afternoon in any case. Worst case, we'll have to wait around the port with our luggage until the shuttle arrives to take us to the airport.

We've used Galveston express with absolutely no problems. They will also pick you up the day before your cruise and take you to any hotel in Galveston. They operate 7 days a week. If you want to spend a several days in Galveston you can do that too.

We flew into Hobby, stayed the night at the La Quinta and used their shuttle. Don't remember the cost though sorry. You could call La Quinta and ask?
