I called Disney Cruise Line today (7/6/03) to check on rates for an Eastern Caribbean cruise in August 2004.

The cast member I spoke with says that cruise will not go to St. Maarten, but instead will stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It then goes on to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands and back to Castaway Cay.

Any thoughts on San Juan as the new stop? Anyone been there? Sounds nice to me. But of course, a trip across town gets me pumped up! :p

Just looking for some feedback on this location. Thanks!

Its been years since I've been to San Juan, but stopped there on a number of cruises in the past. There is old San Juan which is great for sightseeing, new San Juan which at the time had lots of very upscale shops, and a great rain forest to visit as well. It will only for a few cruises but should be a nice alternative to St. Martin.

We went there last year, when we were diverted due to a hurricaine. Since I had no time to research the island we took a bus tour to see the sights. It was very nice. The fort the ship passes when coming into the harbor is spectacular! The shops near the ship were very nice (lots of tourist stuff). My sister and her family took a DCL snorkel tour and had a very nice time. The people were very friendly. I would have liked to have been able to know more about San Jaun before going there (I am a compulsive planner:eek: )but all in all it was a nice place to visit, and I would go again.

I would assume this would mean no more early morning immigration in St. Thomas???

I'm all for anything that prevents this in the future. It's a real drag to have to get up this early on vacation!

We were on the same cruise as Relling Twin (HI MARY!) and thought San Juan was a great place to visit! Just beautiful to sail into their harbor with the fort guarding the entrance! Yes, I agree with Mary, as a compulsive planner, I'd have liked to know more about the island but that "Magic-al Mystery Cruise" was wonderful!

PS - We liked it so much, we booked it with Disney for next year!!

When we were on the Magic in October 01, we were diverted to San Juan instead of St Martin due to a hurricane. We took a tour of the Bicardi Distillery and had a good time. San Juan was not a dissapointment. We loved that cruise because we went to Castaway Cay twice! Once on Sunday and again on Friday. They took us on Sunday just in case the storm damaged the island and prevented us from going on Friday.

Scott - can you tell us more about the Bacardi tour?!
