DCL removing Arcades from ships?

Awe man we always spent a few bucks in the arcade. The fiancé and I love arcades and still go on date nights to Dave and Busters a few times a year.

Was this change made after some people had already booked? When will the petition start?
LOL.
My "petition" for a nightly Midnight Buffet sure worked well.:charac2:

I don't believe the arcades are being removed because of Florida laws. Other cruise lines have casino's and they have no problem adhering to port rules. DCL already have their shops closed while in port, the arcade could have done the same. I believe for whatever reason, they didn't feel the arcade was worth the space and are repurposing the space for something else they feel is more profitable or more important/needed.

Hubby and I have an ongoing Air Hockey battle, and we try to play anywhere we find a table... but the few times we checked out the arcades on the ships, they've always seemed kinda dark, and uninviting. I rarely see kids in there, and I honestly don't blame them... why play something they can find in the mall at home, when there are so many cooler ship activities!
[...]

I felt the same, both on the Dream and the Fantasy. Half the games, including those retro arcades that would have been most fun for us, were out of order, and the room just seemed oddly out-of-place on such otherwise beautiful ships. It felt almost like they'd already given up on it and were waiting for the next dry-dock to take it out.

Think this is to make way fOr the changes to teen clubs and also concierge lounges etc....but magic isn't in dry dock just yet? I have friends who embarked yesterday to cruise the med, so another week at sea....maybe they are just getting a head start?

Yea not sure why I brought that up. After I posted I realized that if they had ticket machines they just wouldn't have them open while in port.

They are getting rid of Disney Quest in downtown Disney, so it makes sense that they are going all in on the effort to remove them. Never much seen anyone playing them anyway on any time I stop by there.

Well DQ was a different issue. DQ is/was a 100,000 sq ft arcade full of games that were hard to keep running and since the original plan of opening 20 of them around the world fell through, Disney didn't wanted to spend any money on it.

So they are putting in a candy and ice cream store? Do you think they will get rid of the free soft serve? (That would be terrible.)

No one here knows for sure. But it's speculated that the "ice cream" in the extra pay venue will be a more upscale variety. So, general thought seems to be that the generic soft-serve (non-dairy) "ice cream" will probably still be available.

Cabanas on the Dream is located on Deck 11, Aft. The Arcade is just outside it on Deck 11.

Mike, I guess you are just going to have to forgo your arcade time to take more photos. I know you don't do,that too much.

Ha! It is Ian that will be the most disappointed. He loves Air Hockey and the Basketball games. We would normally go as reward for having to sit through dinner with a bunch of adults. ;-)

Doesn't seem to bug any kid I personally know.

Made me laugh when you said "the mall in my area". If I remember right you are in Tacoma, I'm about 55 miles away and my daughter lives with her Mom in Gig Harbor. I am all in on the video game thing and the carnival games (at the carnival), just hate being gouged for more once I have paid so much already. Fortunately the arcades haven't been much of an issue because my daughter has her own spending money on the ship, my biggest problem has been at Wild Waves in federal Way when she was a little younger.

No ticket games.

Then why was the one on Dream always packed when we went in there? And we cruise at "off" times, not sold out ships as far as I could tell, but there was always a wait for the games.

And, by the way, packed with kids.

I used to feel that way until I Put myself into my son's (and husband's) shoes. These are things they ENJOY. If I get to do things I enjoy, why can't they? And the fact of the matter is, the ONE mall in my area that has an arcade? I never go there. It's creepy and weird there. There's no other place that really has an arcade. So I finally opened up and lightened up, made time and money available for those things, and watched my son and husband's enjoyment increase. Win win situation!

We haven't played the ones at Dinoland, but the ones at DCA are hardly scam games. Just time it right and someone in your family is GOING to win something. Pay a few bucks, get a cute stuffie. Have some fun, make a memory, get a souvenir. Awesome.

Right outside the entrance to cabanas; facing the entrance it was to the right. I truly cannot remember if cabanas is forward or aft so I can't tell you what entrance that was.

Might have been dark, but for us it was always packed. My son is seriously going to miss it. Where else can he pretend to be a flying ace in London during WW2?

Maybe there will be something in the clubs that will interest him. I know how boring you and Christy are

I think it's the Federal Way mall that has a super-creepy (and yet brightly lit) arcade. No, maybe the Tacoma Mall. Not sure. I avoid it. :) (the malls AND the arcade LOL)

Non-Dairy? What is in it?
