We will be sailing on DCL this summer cruising on points/cash combination and was wondering if we should rebook another cruise to take advantage of the lower point requirement. I understand we need to contact member service within 3 days after leaving the boat. When speaking with MS, do we need to book a specific cruise or can they just make a note on your membership account for a later sailing? I think if we were to pay cash, we would receive a 10% discount and possibly an onboard credit - we would be able to change the date and carry-over the discount and OBC as long as we changed or canceled before final payment. Not looking to rent or transfer points just wondering if there was any flexibility like the cash booking.

You will need to book an actual cruise to receive the discount after the cruise. You will be paying a $95 booking fee and your points become reservation points if you need to cancel or change later. If you cancel later, I don't believe you retain the discount on the rebooked cruise, but I could be wrong on that. You would definitely pay another $95 fee though to change it for sure.

I would not book a cruise on points unless I were positive that I would be keeping the reservation.

What is actual percentage of point discount? I've read on the threads 5%, and sometimes 10%? Is there a set percentage?

I have never done this so I cannot say from experience. However, I don't think you receive 10% off. From what has been reported here, it seems that MS refers to a chart that will provide you with discounted point cost according to the cruise date you are seeking.. I believe it is no more than 5% from what I have heard.

CASH is a 10% discount and OBC depending on the length of the cruise. We are getting $200 OBC from Disney for a 1 week cruise in December and that was matched by Dreams Unlimited for a $400 total. Deposits are only 50% of normal if you book while on a cruise, too. No penalty for canceling or changing until I think you are pretty close to the final payment date (don't know the exact date as I never have had to cancel...)
