I am going for the Pirate/Luau/Tropical thing--not authentic, but, in my opinion, no food, games, songs or decorations I have will convince anyone to go on the cruise. And who really NEEDS to be convinced to go to a warm, beautiful place!!
My thoughts are simple, since my goal for the party is to show people what they get for the high price (sorry, Disney) and the ways to cut costs--many people get sticker shock when we talk about it. But I don't want to kill myself doing this party, so I am going simple.
Anyway, at Michael's the other day I found "Grow-A-Pirate"--put the 2" figure in water and he will grow 600%--for $1! They also had grow-a-ship and grow-a-treasure chest. Dumb little party favor ideas. They also had foam pirate ship kits.
Also, our Fred Meyer/Kroger now carries Disney Pirate shaped pasta, and a few other Disney food products, like little ice cream cones and Disney themed Ice cream flavors. I even saw big Pirates of the Caribbean "treasure" chocolate bars for $1 each that would make an awesome take home gift--for $1 each!
A few things we are going to do:
-I am planning to get cheap, red Wal-mart fabric to cut into triangles to wrap around heads and/or waists, plus what ever they send to us (the ones from the cruise are a bit small)
-we will use the tattoos they send in the kit, and we are going to use an eyeliner to draw on scars which stitches and lipstick for dripping blood on faces
-there are AWESOME decorations out there call "Scene Setters". I have found them at local party stores and ordered, too. Some of them are 4 ft by 50 ft plastic backgrounds for $20, which I have in the Beach/ocean/palm tree pattern, as well as a thatched grass wall, which when hung beneath the beach scene, makes the wall look like you are sitting in a grass hut looking out over the beach. I think they have several pirate ones as well. And you can use them over and over again. They also have underwater scenes if you want to emphasize the snorkeling/scuba thing. You can buy different add-ons, like sharks and whales, hula dancers, etc.
-I also have blow-up palm trees ($10) that I am going to put around, or outside my door, if the weather is good.
-I have grass table skirts, but you can make cheap ones with rolls of crepe streamers and tape! Green, brown, yellow, whatever--it looks fun!
-I saw chicken, pineapple, and teriyaki meatballs (pre-cooked) at Costco that had a simple recipe for kabobs--meatball, pineapple piece, peppers cooked in teriyaki/yoshidas--we can't grill here now.
-Costco usually has fresh pineapples and other fruits, great for finger food or in drinks
-I was also going to serve the King's Hawaiian rolls--they are slightly sweet and yummy
-I really liked the rice krispy mickey heads dipped in chocolate idea
I realize these are not "Disney" things, but I don't think I can really compete with the real thing, and don't have the time to try! People will want to go on a cruise if we show them how much fun we had (as a family and as a couple), what we did, and answer the questions they have always been afraid to ask!!! I think most just want to know what they will get for their money.

I have now changed my theme and wanted to know what people thought. We just moved ours from my house, I know it is a house party, but from my house to a hotel. We are having a ~Splashing-Goffy Pool Party~. We invited everyone to get "staterooms" at a discounted price. I am going to make Rice Krispy Mickey Heads like at the parks. A Mickey Mouse Shaped Cake, A Mexican Buffet like on deck 9 and invite the kids to have a Goffy PJ party and play a Disney Movie in one of the suites at night. I will read the thread for other ideas, but feel free to toss out any that can go with my theme. See swimming in January is a real treat here in Minnesota, so I fiqured we could do it as a Winter Sail Away Celebration. We are going to do a little Von Voyage for our family too as we are about to go back on the ship soon after the party.

In addition to no $50 OBC, it also says no beach towels or character sketch!! I'm hoping they are the surprises!!!

Why would they do such a thing. I was looking forward to keeping a towel and using one as a prize. And as th op mentioned "Why only 6 kits"
