To anyone that's cruised DCL on points,

First cruise with DCL scheduled for Oct 05. We booked using points. I have heard that onboard they offer incentives to book another cruise. Heard something about "Castaway Club?". Anyway, I've heard they will give you a cash discount for booking your next cruise while still onboard from the previous (as well as some onboard room credits for a future cruise). I know they'll give you a cash discount for booking another future cruise...but here's my question. Do they offer a discounted point booking if you sign up for a future cruise and would want to use points? Is there still a room credit available?

Any feedback would be appreciated and thanks in advance,

ATCMickey

If you rebook on board and pay cash, you get a 10% cash discount and a $200 on board credit. If you re-book with points, the discount is approx 14 points off per person, I'm not so sure you get the $200 on board credit, but I think you do. The cash discount is a MUCH better deal, as we had tossed around the idea of using points for our next cruise. We'll make out MUCH better by renting the points and booking a cash cruise. There is no discount on any cash portion you have to book through DVC, only the points discount, which is pretty measly IMO.

When we cruised in Nov I asked about the booking with points option and was told the discount was only with cash. So I did not bother. Also she told me the discounts for cash were only on the 7 day and the 200 credit. The shorter cruises got $100 on board and no discount.

Yes, you do get only a $100 credit on the shorter cruises, but we were told by Danielle (the on-board booking manager) that the 10% discount is good for all cruises. You also get a $400 on-board credit for land/sea bookings. Danielle came to the Member Celebration and told us about the point discount. You can re-book on board with points, you have 3 business days from getting off the ship to contact MS and make your booking to get the point discount. I also verified this information with MS myself last week, as we're trying to decide what we're going to do when we're on-board in July. AFter finding out there is no discount on the cash portion booked through DVC, and the point discount is measly, we're re-booking in board, and renting points to cover some of the cost.

Actually, If you are rebooking with points you have more than 3 days to rebook in certain situations.

you can get a point discount on any cruise that is within 14 months of your current cruise. However, since DVC members cannot book until the 11 month window, if you choose to rebook on a cruise that is more than 11 months out, you ACTUALLY have three days to call MS after the 11 month window opens.

We rebooked our Dec '04 cruise a couple weeks after we got back from Sept '04 cruise. (Even though over 3 days had past, they were nice and gave us the point discount.)
