"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

Thanks.

I chose the iPad2. I figured it wasn't something I would buy for myself, it will last much longer than the cash, and we have already budgeted for our Ketchikan excursion so why not have something for me.

They said they are mailing the winners their iPads within 6-8 weeks. I am hoping that is from the original drawing date, which was in early June, so that I will have it in time for the cruise.

Congrats on being a winner; that's always fun! I hope it gets to you in time too! What a nice thing to have while traveling to Vancouver.

Cruise question- do we need to bring bug spray?

I've been talking to a couple different people who live in Alaska and have gathered that most of the mosquitoes are in June and July. August is usually mosquito free.

Also, people on the Alaska Excursion thread that have been to Alaska before all agree that August is bug free.

Good news for us late Aug cruisers since my sister is a mosquito magnet and will be miserable if there are mosquitoes!

However! We might be smart to bring a small amount just in case! Never hurts to be prepared. But we probably don't need to designate a lot of precious suitcase space to bug repellants! :woohoo:

Thanks that is great to know. I too am a mosquito magnet. Living in FL I usually don't go out much after dark, but since when have had company I have been in the back yard alot and I am all eaten up!!!

So, knock on wood, we should be safe! I imagine just before our cruise we might hear from a few people on the Aug 2nd or 9th cruises that can let us know more. I imagine if they are bug free then we will def be fine.

I'm starting my traveling on the 19th of Aug, so I'm not sure how much info I can get from these Aug cruisers. Hopefully they will put up trip reports quickly :thumbsup2

If not, I'm going with the info I've gleaned so far. (And bringing a tiny bit, just in case)

It's hard to imagine that it's really bug free if you are in the woods at all and as a bug magnet who has excursions in the woods, I'm definitely packing. But I will be SO happy if it's really true!

Fingers crossed that it will get to you ASAP! That is so cool you won a little extra magic for the cruise! I think you can somehow order movies to watch on there as well, my friends husband did it on our trip in May for the long flights home. He got some sort of splitter so we could put 3 headsets into it.

I am "refreshing" myself hoping to remember at least a few names. Y'all look like you have WAY too much fun on your trips, how great that you have gotten to cruise together several times!

We, I presume are a bit older. Dh retired after 27 years in 1992 and I in 94. Wow seems like a life time ago.

DH retired in 99. Where was every one stationed?
We were in Los Angeles, Griffis, Sembach, Loring, Guam and Hurlburt?

Ds is back in Germany where he was born!!!
