From This Thread I see that DCL increased their Single Supplement on cash bookings today to 200%.

I am not sure if this affects DVC Members booking on DVC points (I would assume so) but thought I would point it out for anyone interested or who may be impacted.

Yikes...

Hmm..

I have a deposit on cruise I know I won't be going on. If they charge me the increase when I go to move it, I will just cancel. Their loss. Other lines are more accommodating

It looks like from reading the post when you change your Itenerary you will have to pay the 200%.

I traveled for years on my own and the "suppliment" is the reason I did not go to many resorts or cruises. I guess I would just find someone to travel with and atleast have a buddy to share it with.

I think "suppliments" are just a goudge aimed at fun loving people who dont need to travel with others, I had some of my best vacations by myself. It less drauma and pain.

Oh, well-I guess that means I won't be taking a solo cruise with Disney. DH refuses to take a cruise, so it would have to be solo (and it sounds fun). But I never understood why the full 200%. Does that mean a solo can take up two chairs in the dining room? Get two meals at dinnertime? Mess up two beds for the room stewards to make every day?

No...I think it just means DCL believes they can get it.

Its becoming a very standard practice within the cruise industry for single supplements to be 200%. Many Royal Caribbean and Princess cruises charge 200% for a single passenger traveling alone.

Today's cruise industry business model is to sell cabins at a break even price, or even at a loss, and then make the profit from selling excursions, drinks, shipboard photos, spa services, etc.

Looks like I probably won't be cruising with DCL anymore unless I have a roommate. Even though other cruise lines may charge the same single supplement fee most of them are 1/2 the price of a DCL cruise to begin with so it's still a bargain to cruise with anyone else. I ended up cancelling the last cruises I had booked with DCL for several reasons, the most important one being I could go the same places on many other cruise lines for less than 1/2 of what DCL was charging.

You have to pay for 2 adults in a cabin even with 1-1 child. We've paid for 4 adults & 1 child for every family cruise. Those kids do not eat like adults. You just pay what they're asking if you want the experience.

But other lines are even increasing the number of solo cabins. NCL has a great option with an entire area for singles

So I will put my money where it is not a rip off. The new ships on DCL really disappointed me so paying extra for them....:rotfl2: The experience was sub par service and packed ships. Not worth the extra charge

Norwegian's ship -The Epic has 128 studios for single passengers. Their two new ships currently being built, will also have cabins for single passengers.

NCL and P&O are the only cruise lines with dedicated cabins for single passengers.

But the NCL single staterooms are closets at best. They're tinier than regular staterooms, and all "inside". On a square footage basis, I think you pay more with them than just booking another line. Plus, NCL is the KMart of cruise lines...I'd stay home before cruising them again.

The 200% IS pretty standard, but you can find exceptions. The key is to find a cruise line you like, and then book whenever you find a price that fits your idea of "fair". Beyond that, don't sweat it!
