Since RC just released their 2017 dates, I priced a 3 night to the Bahamas out of PC for 3 adults, May 12, 2017. In order to get close to the same square footage as Disney, I had to price a Junior Suite balcony room with 281 Sq Ft. It was $2619.90 on the Majesty of the Seas. The same cruise with Disney on the Dream in a family veranda room with 299 Sq Ft, it was $2385.21. I think we will be booking with DCL.

Now, if you don't match and compare square footage, then yes, RCL is lower. For example, an ocean view with only 122 Sq Ft on RCL was $1308.90. On Disney, an ocean view with 204 sq ft (which is the smallest OV room) is $2127.21. Also, the Majesty is a much older and smaller ship. If you want less, you pay less.

Just thought I would put this out there because everyone is always saying how much more DCL is than other lines.

I found similar pricing when I looked at other cruise lines. I could not see spending the night in such a small room, some were as small as 104 sq ft. I want space and am willing to spend more for it.

Really not anything new in this news here. There is times when DCL is cheaper then the other lines, not often, but it does happen.

I also believe that when the monster ships come to PC, you will see their prices going up to meet DCL. Not DCL coming down.

Time will tell.

Thanks for posting it!

Nice to see! There is some hope for us returning to DCL yay! Although we don't really care about the size of the rooms and tend to go on the numbers alone...

We've only been on larger ships so can't compare to the smaller ones, but our RCL cruises have always been a lot cheaper- this does have the do with the exchange into Canadian dollars though.

Our Oasis cruise was the week after new years so still a fairly busy time- It was $2,985 Canadian for 2 A and DD9- balcony (including gratuites)
Our Freedom cruise was booked last minute and was $1475 CAD for 2 A- ocean view Gt -not including gratuity
Our Fantasy cruise booked on veranda guarantee rate in the lowest season was $3588 US for 2 A, DD10- so around $4700 CAD not including gratuity.

My last two cruise including the one coming up in two weeks, RCCL was about 10% cheaper for equivalent itineraries, boats and rooms leaving PC on the same day when we booked the cruises about 15 months outs. The difference is the Disney prices keep going up the RCCL prices tend to stay the same or and sometimes go down. I checked after DCL turned my cruise into a Star Wars cruise and the RCCL quickly became 50% cheaper for new people booking.

Definitely varies. I booked our first RCI cruise for Spring Break of 2017 on the new Harmony of the Seas. We are concierge cruisers so I booked one of the Crown Loft suites which I would consider comparable to DCL's 1 bedroom suite which we have sailed in many times. The price difference is mind-blowing. For a party of 4 in a Crown Loft suite for our Spring Break week in March of 2017 it's about $8700. The 1 bedroom suite on the Disney Fantasy for the same week is about $25,800! That $17K difference is insane especially for basically the same 7 night caribbean cruise. I got a deal during RCCL's most recent sale because the same suite is now a bit over $11K but that's still $14K less than Disney.

Weird. Double posted and quoted myself. :scared:

I think that booking by room size is trying to get the royal price higher. Jr suite gives you other perks like double cruise points!

I priced out a cruise for fun last night. Trying to find a room I wanted (the most basic inside cabin) on dream for a 4 night before our long awaited freedom cruise. Sure the Disney cruise was lower. Inside room, 4 nights, $500 lower than our upcoming 7 night cool panoramic OV room. Hahahahaha. Can't do it. Not enough value.

I also noticed recently they are adding an infant/toddler nursery to the ships. Last time I looked into them they didn't have that. I'd be willing to give them a try now!

Great post, that has always been my experience. But I don't cruise during peak season or do concierge!!

Those panoramic OV rooms are awesome! We had one booked on Liberty of the Seas for this October but had to cancel, I was so bummed. We were in the family room that's almost 500 square feet. For the 4 of us it was only $3200 for a 7 night western Caribbean out of Galveston. It was a smoking great price!

I think it was your post that introduced me to the panoramic rooms which I also booked. Bummer u had to cancel. Is it true that there are only 2 family panoramics on the ship?

I think with RC being so much cheaper, we are considering getting a drink package.

Yes, just 2 family OV, but there are also 2 large OV and about 20 standard size. I'm bummed we had to cancel but since we did cancel it, we decided to get AP's to Disneyland so we have several trips planned to go there. Maybe 2017 will finally be our year for RCCL.

Since you mentioned sq footage, did you measure room square footage or total of room plus balcony?

RCCL lists room and balcony sq ft separately, whereas DCL lumps them together into one number....so if the sq footage is the same, you may actually be getting a bigger room with RCCL with an additional balcony for what you compare DCL to.

Ok I'm intrigued! So does every ship of theirs have these panoramic OVs? DH loves his verandah but that sounds nice!
I believe it's only the Freedom class ships and they are pretty new. Liberty just got them in January when they also added 3 water slides during her dry dock.

I checked Royal Caribbean's site to be sure, and the Majesty junior suite's total area is 282 square feet: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/finda...e.do?br=R&cabincls=D&cabinType=DS&shipCode=MJ

I have sailed more with RCI than with any other cruise line, and I like it a lot. However, having sailed sister ship Monarch of the Seas twice (in 2006 and 2008), I also would have chosen the Disney Dream over Majesty of the Seas. Majesty is a much older and smaller ship than the Dream.
