DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

Can anyone tell more about the fish extender exchange. About how many gifts do I need to bring. Do we give out gifts everyday of the cruise or just one day?Pleasse help !!
Fish Extender exchanges are handled on your cruise meet thread. The "rules" for each group are set up by the group. Some say gifts for everyone, some say one gift per room. Others say whatever you want to do. Deliveries are handled the same - some groups assign days/times for deliveries, other just say deliver whenever.

It's due to when the cruise documents have been sent out so now the cruise documents include it In the T &Cs, they are sent out 45 days in advance. Nothing to do with any financial quarters whatsoever.

That is the reason, but others just want to make up answers.
This is a classic example of "solving for X". While your explanation of the 45 days does make some sense, you completely overlooked the timing of the rollout of the new rules. They could have announced the new rules on September 1st at which point the 45 days would have been in the middle of October. They also could have announced the new rules in the beginning of July making the 45 days in the middle of August. You are overlooking the reasoning behind why September 30 is the operative date. And the financial explanation really does make the most sense. Your explanation more or less assumes that the mid August announcement date of the new rules was rather random, and that the 45-day period for the sending out of paperwork just happens to fall on September 30th. In reality they likely wanted the new policy to take effect after September 30, and then counted backwards 45 days to announce the new rule.

how do we know YOUR not the one making up answers? you seem to talk like your in the know so how is that? are you a secret shopper for dcl? is that your job?
how do you always come by the 'correct' information and we always just surmise? i'm honestly curious, tell us.

I gave up a long time ago trying to figure it out. The ignore button is a good option.

You're right. They probably don't pay anyone to do it. They have interns that do it for free.

Exactly, my 19yr old DD whose a Marketing major did an internship this past summer at a midsize company in downtown Chicago and that is exactly what she did...Twitter, FB, Linkedin, Instagram and message boards related to the field. So if some doesn't believe a large company like Disney where folks kill to be interns is not doing the same. they have no real clue about the corporate world.

Raise your hand if you like non-answers that totally do not answer the question! Ah well, not that it matters.

Question, since I am a rule follower (no pirate blood apparently) since we can no longer bring on liquor, is there a way to purchase a bottle for the room once on the ship? I really do enjoy having a drink on my veranda and really don't want to traipse to a bar and bring it back to do so. The inconvenience just kills me (first world problems, I know!)

I still signed the petition, but it seems that DCL has dug their heels into the ground with the new policy. Still think DCL needs to do something for anyone who is past the cancel date and PIF. Just my opinion.

I believe you can order a bottle from room service. Don't know for sure, however.

I think he like a few others like to be first to answer the thread no matter what. Just read the Alone Time thread out on the main page. He had no idea what he was talking about but he answered anyway. Gave the poster totally wrong info.

Not only does DCL and Disney in general monitor all forms of social media, they would be insane not to. That is where the milinneal money comes from. If you aren't on top of your social media presence you are not doing your job as a modern company. I'll go even one step further, whoever is in charge of Disney's social media response should be fired for gross incompetence for their silence regarding this policy on their Facebook page.

Agreed. I am a millennial and online presence/PR is huge amongst my peers. If you have to call in most of the time we won't bother - personally I want to do everything online at my own convenience. I work at an ad agency and everything is very much geared towards social media campaigns and world wide pitches. Nothing moves as fast as millions of people doing the work for you getting the word out and it is by far our largest growing area currently - at least for us. Disney is seriously lagging behind in that regard.

Just to add, date wise I wonder if the 30th September has anything to do with being the day that the Magic gets back from Europe? I was thinking it might be due to port security and it being different in Europe to the US so therefore harder to enforce maybe? Not sure though as have no clue either way just seemed like a weird coincidence

Personally I am also digging the idea that its coming about at the start of a new financial quarter.

No, it is not the reason, but I see you like to make up answers the same as anyone else (yours just aren't as reasonable). I'm starting to think your entire online persona is crafted to enrage. Is this part of some sort of long con trolling? I could ignore you, but its entertaining... for now.

If that remains true after September 30th then it just cements the idea that it was a purely financial move in my mind. On the other hand, buying a bottle of rum and being able to have it in my room really would solve part of my problem (too bad none of it will be the higher shelf stuff of course, but it would suffice for a mixer or two on the verandah)... now if only they hadn't bungled the PR portion of it so terribly... :crazy2:

Agreed. DF is a great source for a lot of good info; however there is another hugely frequent poster who always chimes in, usually with a guess about an answer just to get a post, sometimes telling us how she breaks the rules, then talking down to others about how they should follow the rules. I finally figured out how to ignore her, and reading posts here is much better now.

It would seem Disney does want to stay aware of any significant guest perceptions, especially in social media settings. I wonder if they think of venues such as DIS, CC, Twitter, FB, etc. to be of significance, and if they do I wonder how they monitor the conversations? It would be interesting to see how a major company handles this. Even their own FB page, wonder if that really matters...it was burning up when they introduced FB+, and it was last week after the new alcohol policy. Well, FB+ was implemented anyway, and most guests accept it, many like it. I suppose we'll see the same here.

Most major, and many not so major, companies keep a very close watch on social media. Especially companies involved in customer service. Really, anyone who thinks this is not the case is living in the dark ages. A company the size of Disney very likely has a social media department whose job is to monitor and post to the various social media sites. I do feel that they are one of the weakest companies in terms of direct response on social media, but that does not mean they aren't watching. Most other companies are very quick to offer a direct response to a client issue that is posted on fb or twitter. Especially twitter. For example, we had issues with Comcast Cable. My DH blew up their @comcastcares twitter to the point where we were given an executive CS number to call whenever we had a problem. Companies do not want to be blasted on social media in a day an age when brand name is so important.

Some random thoughts on Disney (the tourist end, anyway) and their tech-savvy-ness:

--They outsourced much of their IT to another country recently, IIRC
--Their websites (for WDW and DCL, for example) have been hilariously bad, seemingly forever
--They like to pretend that the internet doesn't exist and that people don't share information, such as acting surprised when everyone eventually expected to have a million random objects signed on board

In short, I feel they treat the internet as an annoyance rather than a resource, so I am somewhat hesitant to try to guess how much social media marketing they do, or pay attention to.

I think it's still important to keep one thing in mind: even as they raise prices on everything (tourist-end) far ahead of the costs of living and the income of the typical middle-class family, people are still beating down their doors to stand in line and back up more dump trucks full of money onto the parks and cruises. I'm not sure they have much incentive to do market research beyond: "Hey, would you like to pay extra for a liquor AND chocolate tasting? Yes, you would? Okay, cool!"

I would like to know this too. Also the cost.
