DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

This is definitely the first glimmer of hope we have had, and I will be calling as soon as the lines open tomorrow.
Yes they did- and someone in our travel group called back and they said he same thing - so maybe they are being flexible for sail dates after sept 30 that were also paid in full at time of the policy change.
When is your sail date?

How reliable are the CMs you reach via the phone? That said, I hope everyone does call in the morning. Another flood of calls will not hurt since they've stopped responding to emails.

They could have easily stepped in, mentioned the policy, perhaps even confiscate their booze at that time but they didn't.

Yes.

Disney should have enforced their rule if they wanted it kept

So much yes.

ABV is ABV

Good point. :)

the experienced drinkers know what they're getting themselves into and the idiot drinkers who are going to over imbibe are going to do it no matter what the ABV of that bottle says.

Yep.

damn shame they don't want me to self regulate at all.

They really don't! Our first DCL experience was during my weight loss process, and the main server and I had a real problem that first night since I couldn't even eat half of my risotto! It was SO salty, and it was SO heavy, and I simply didn't have room and didn't *want* to eat it all. I really freaked him out. I practically had to bring out my "before" picture to show him what I was trying to get away from. After we cleared that up we were golden, but he REALLY wanted me to finish all my food to make HIM happy. Ick.

IF I can't convince the husband to go with RCCL in January that is...

Not sure about your January plans, but I recommend 3/20/16 on Freedom. I love what you have said here and want to buy you a drink. :)

...A really really expensive drink, because that's what Royal did 9-12 months after creating their new drinks packages and policies, they raised the drink prices by about 40% (makes the packages "worth it!")...

What number did you call as we are on an October cruise that was PIF before the policy change came out and would like to be able to utilize the old policy

Just the general dcl reservation line you would call with questions about your reservation

I just called and they told me anyone bring anything except the stated 2 bottles of wine or champagne or 6 bottles of beer after September 30th with have any other alcohol taken regardless of sail date. They said nobody will be grandfathered in.

Yea I just got the same response- I wish i would have written down the cast members name so they could pull the call. Oh well- sorry to get everyone's hopes up! They were actually pretty rude about the policy when I just now called them.. They must be getting a ton of calls. Sorry guys!

They were rude when I called too. They said "just get the daily special" when I said it really messes with a persons budget when you make a change like this last minute.

It always amazes me how people want to push their perfect values on people. I am a snob when it comes to beer and whiskey. If Disney wants to enforce this policy they need to up their game with selections. That is the main reason this new rule upsets me. I actually drink for the taste not to get drunk. I also find it funny to watch people when they drink. I think they need to be worried about changing up menus and shows. I have been on 8 Disney Cruises between the Dream and the Fantasy. I have only seen one person who could not hold their alcohol. I can't speak for the smaller ships. At this point I am done with DCL.

:welcome:

aaaaaaand, judging by your post, farewell.
that was quick!

Dang it. But seriously, how much could they really have lost if they enacted this policy at a date that did not affect folks who were paid in full?!? I would think that the loss of $ would be more manageable than the ill-will and negative PR that they are experiencing.

I'm on hold now...it is asking me to give feedback after my call...for those who received rude responses you can log that at disneysurvey.com keyword CRUISE....

I said i'm calling to confirm rumor that we are grandfathered in. Very sweetly, she said, I am glad you did. I have not heard that. Let me check...She said no, her supervisor says it is across the board.

I agree and in fact they have done this for me in the past when DCL told me I didn't have something booked which I had phoned and sorted out. When they checked the recordings via the date, time and number called on they managed to find me and sort it

I received a call from Disney but was not at home to take it. Not sure I will have a chance to call back today, really wish they would respond via e-mail.

Sad to say this, but I am almost relieved others aren't getting responses, my wife sent a very snarky, but pointed response to their canned letter and didn't get a reply. Glad it wasn't just us. Was starting to worry we would be labeled as troublemakers on our next cruise lol.

Had we not gotten a good deal on our 9 day setup, around 2250 for an inside and bought our plane tickets we probably would have cancelled by now.

DCL is very quickly taking a huge PR hit. The good news is it may finally drive down prices if they get hit hard enough!
