DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

The main difference between our side of the conversation and yours is that we are admitting when we are speaking purely from personal experience. We aren't claiming we KNOW what DCLs intentions are - its purely conjecture because they haven't put out a statement on it. I know you might have heard a couple CMs complaining, or even an officer saying it was a damn shame what happened that night on your cruise but that does NOT make it policy and certainly not for that reason. You are not DCL, you are not an agent of DCL and as such I really wish you would stop speaking as if you were because you're upsetting and confusing people. Tell your story if you must (in fact a lot of people would appreciate it since you keep dancing around your issue there) but your opinion is the same as anyone else on these boards.

I don't know which is worse, the comparison to the alcohol policy and the Holocaust, or the enjoyment of Disney to Jim Jones in Guyana when people say we drank the Kool Aid. To give people a brief history, in November of 1978, over 900 people were found dead in a community in Guyana who were members of the People's temple. From recordings and a few eyewitnesses who survived, they had drunk Kool Aid with poison in it. It was believed that most drank willingly. What was not immediately known was that babies were injected, a few adults were tied up and injected and at least one 12 year old was forced by adults to swallow the Kool Aid after she spit it out 3 times. I understand that almost 37 years ago is ancient history to some people, but I do remember the pictures at the time and later when I studied Jim Jones and his cult.

I have to admit, that I too cringe, when when I hear that phrase. That's not to say I haven't used it; I have. I wonder how many people really understand what they are saying when they use this phrase and others. The pictures are just as disturbing today as they were 37 years ago. Good reminder.

i am beginning to think that DCL changed their autograph and liquor policies in an effort to heat up these boards....the summer doldrums ended waaaaaaaay early and for that, we thank you.

I don't post often, however I've been following this thread and the behavior of some has amazed me honestly. Accusing people you don't know in real life of alcoholism, just because they're upset about this new policy. In my opinion that's rude and disrespectful. People relax on vacations, and relaxing for some includes the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

It always amazes me how people want to push their perfect values on people. I am a snob when it comes to beer and whiskey. If Disney wants to enforce this policy they need to up their game with selections. That is the main reason this new rule upsets me. I actually drink for the taste not to get drunk. I also find it funny to watch people when they drink. I think they need to be worried about changing up menus and shows. I have been on 8 Disney Cruises between the Dream and the Fantasy. I have only seen one person who could not hold their alcohol. I can't speak for the smaller ships. At this point I am done with DCL.

I have called today to request specific items in my stateroom for a sail date in October. I asked about the new policy and how it was changed after the paid in full date and the cast member stated that we would be grandfathered in and allowed do bring on items according to the old policy. Has anyone else heard this?

I completely agree with this. Even their drink menu has gotten boring after multiple cruises and the drinks of the day all taste the same after a while (all yummy, but all basically the same). To combat this we did multiple mixology and tasting classes on our last cruise, which helped mix it up a little (OK, we actually did one pretty much every day, so it mixed it up quite a bit...). Unfortunately, they were a good value, in our opinion, so they are likely the next to go.

I do understand companies that feel they need to change policy for one reason or another. I retired from a grocery company from NY that doubles coupons at the register. We would double an unlimited amount of $1.00 coupons and it finally was affecting the bottom line. They made a decision to limit the doubling to 5 $1.00 coupons and made it effective 30 days from when the decision was made. Some customers were not happy but since we were the only supermarket that would double the $1.00 coupons they could go someplace else but most did not since 5 was better than nothing. Different with DCL since they gave notice but many were past the PIF date so to cancel they would have the penalty. We did what we did to save money and I am of the opinion Disney has done it for the money also. The stockholders I would imagine are happy since the company made 2.2 billion in the second quarter and 2.5 billion in the third. Thats a b for billion. In the lounges with the bartenders and servers I don't know how well they do although I imagine the are making an OK living--otherwise they would not work for DCL. The alcohol policy does not affect my wife or I since due to medication we cannot drink. We do drink the soda and water so if they started to charge for the soda and made you buy a mug or a soda card it would not make me happy. I am also of the opinion that if you are not happy with a company you can tell them your concerns and hope they change what they were changing and if you are not happy with the new policy or price you show your opinion by walking. We, my wife and myself have decided to walk for the time being for a variety of reasons. I am also of the opinion is they feel that if we are not on the ship they will fill the stateroom with someone else. At least we save some money and maybe try someone else--maybe we'll like it and never go back.

Yes they did- and someone in our travel group called back and they said he same thing - so maybe they are being flexible for sail dates after sept 30 that were also paid in full at time of the policy change.

This is definitely the first glimmer of hope we have had, and I will be calling as soon as the lines open tomorrow.
