DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

where in heavens name are you getting that from? i have yet to see any proof that it is for health and safety and not a numbers game. if you have something to prove this please share as several of us will be interested, i'm sure.

I have seen officers and security have to deal with drunk cruisers who had too much Russia bonds then they can take and mix it with other drinks and be sick on deck 9

Seven hours later kids are playing on that deck, yes DCL clean it. Would you want you or a child to be unwell due to someone who can't hold their booze?

DISNEY FANTASY - Show me somewhere that an official Disney announcement said this is for health, safety and security?
I am not DCL and stating what I saw. DCL however always manage PR well, and never go into the detail. I recall the parks post 9/11 when extra magic hours went a month later, they said due to public demand , everyone knew due to far fewer visitors, they manage communications.
Is this a serious question? All costs of a cruise are wrapped into whatever price you pay. So you don't pay for the perk as a line item on your bill, but don't be confused... you are paying for it. You don't pay directly for that guy who washed your dishes in the back of the kitchen, but trust that he's getting his portion of your cost.

That's been the argument FOR Disney Cruises. The cost is often higher than other cruise lines, but its worth it because you get all these other perks. Without them, how do you justify the extra cost?

btw, just because you say its for security and health and safety, doesn't mean that's actually true.

You are not paying for this old perk, it's was a non costed perk, no financial add it minus it's a perk but you show me where there is a line saying they charge you x$ so you can bring booze on.

I emailed to voice my concern and disappointment to the new policy that effects our first cruise with little notice. It's not the only reason we chose DCL but it helped offset the super high cost for this family of 4 to know we could save by having a few cocktails on our own in between buying them by the pool! And no we aren't alcoholics either! But we are part of the cruisers who don't drink beer or wine, so that's a downfall there too! I viewed it as one of the many things that set them apart, but it seems lately lots of those things are vanishing. But here's the response I got from Disney i thought I'd share

8/17/15

Dear Miranda:

Thank you for your recent e-mail and your thoughts around our alcohol
policy.

We regularly evaluate our policies and procedures and have recently
changed our alcohol beverage policy to limit the amount and types of
alcohol Guests may bring onboard in our home- and out-ports.

Effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Disney
Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles
of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no
larger than 12 ounces) on board in their carry-on luggage at the
beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call. This type of alcohol
beverage policy is not unusual in the cruise industry.

Additional information on our policies can be found on our website at:https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/...aring-for-your-cruise/alcohol-onboard-policy/

Again, thank you for your comments and concerns.

Sincerely,

Joseph Paris
Executive Correspondent
Disney Cruise Line

That is the lamest response!

As are all their decisions. But, I do not believe it is just "we'll make more money if we don't allow alcohol brought on board." I think they see losses due to more and more people abusing the old policy.

We have very frequent posters on this board openly talking about taking wine from home into the lounges and mixed drinks made of alcohol from home to the outside decks, with hidden hints as to how they sneakily do that. It seems to have become accepted to do this, and I believe Disney has realized this behavior by guests and has decided the perk is costing them money it shouldn't.

I wonder...people openly defend ordering several main dishes just to taste each one, and have the rest thrown away. Wonder when we'll see the day you must choose one main dish because of this type of behavior? It so, it will be an economic decision due to unwarranted wastage.

Despite some changes made to respond to some folks who aren't so nice, Disney still has a first class cruise experience offering, with mostly wonderful and friendly guests, and lots of extras the other lines don't have.
i think this just hit it on the head! its a little bit of both a money decision and seeing a lose due to abuse.

I'm glad that I don't drink or smoke. I can see where it could be a problem on a Transatlantic or Panama Canal crossing, but is 2 bottles per adult not enough for a week? Serious question......How many bottles per person would be a good number?
Most couples share a bottle per night. You buy a bottle of wine with dinner you drink it. How could a bottle last a week. It tastes yucky if its been open more than 48 hours.

A person can do a lot of drinking beween 11am and 2am lol. Arent most people asleep or passed out by 2am if they have been drinking all day. If dcl is worried about our health and safety they should just stop selling alcohol all together. I think a lot of people(responsibe drinkers) justified the higher cost of dcl by being able to save some money on drinks.

As posted and responded to you a few times, they can restrict or stop selling booze to anyone who looks like they had too much, so if you drink at 11 pm in a bar and they think you are over the limit, they stop. Yes most are in bed post 2 am, I should have been in bed but I had other reasons to be up and go to deck 9 funny enough the self service station us quite busy at 2 am!

okay, you saw officers and security deal with a problem. what does that have to do with your quote ofI t's a perk that was a used by cruisers and for security and health and safety was cut back. you stated that as a fact. where is your proof? maybe one of your friends told you and you can't reveal your source???? lol.

I don't totally believe this is due to abuse. You do realize that someone can get drunk on a bottle of wine if they wish. Taking only 6 beers and/or 2 bottles of wine won't stop someone getting drunk and obnoxious if they choose

Just curious as I can't seem to locate this on the DCL site, there's no restriction on bringing on water bottles, correct? Nothing has changed on that front I hope.

He can't. It's his opinion based on his experiences. That's all. Unless DF was sitting in the meetings where this decision was made, he knows no more than the rest of us.

Yes some people get drunk on a pint others on ten, it also is down to if you have eaten and when and what and also your tolerance to it, are you used to that drink.

I think that some on my cruise might have brought UK booze and Russia vodka and were not use to its strength.

I just finished my email to DCL.
While I couldn't care any less about the wine beer limits (although I can understand how some people could be balistic over the change) my concern is over the exclusion of spirits. I don't understand how a 200 ml bottle of spirits (4 - 5 drinks) is somehow more dangerous than 1.5 L of wine. (8 - 10 drinks). I also have concerns about my ability to bring home liquor as a purchase from a port of call. On my first cruise I brought home a bottle of guava rum that I CAN NOT buy in Ontario. Now it looks like I can't do this any more. I wonder if they would let me have it stored until disembarkation.

Sounds like they will store it for you till the end of the cruise :)

Ok a number of people here are stating that it's for profit only, ask them where is there proof,

FACT

I saw abuse.

FACT

Officers and security were called.

FACT

Vomit from being drunk spreads germs.

FACT

This has been coming for a long time, just read a number of other sensible posters posts that the a use encouraged here caused this.

DH spoke to DCL this morning. We can bring it onboard at a port and they will store it until we get back to Port Canaveral where we will have to claim it before going through customs. We buy liquor to bring back to Canada as well, so DH was quick to sort this out.

On our last cruise we had some rowdy neighbors. We then encountered them in the hot tub, all 6 people with alcoholic drinks in glass containers. A CM came right over to them to tell them glass was not allowed in the hot tub. They eventually agreed but there were some words exchanged. We felt bad for the CM and I am sure such things happen all of the time.

I am happy about the change in policy. DH is happy to use the beer mug program. I hope this leads to DCL offering drink packages like other cruise lines. It is one of the things we miss when we sail DCL and I don't drink alcohol at all.

Nothing good ever happens at that hour.:)

I give up. Maybe we're having a language barrier problem here. Everything you do on that ship and everything the employees do for you on that ship is wrapped up in the price that you pay. None of it is free. So you are correct that there is no direct charge for the "old" perk of bringing alcohol on the cruise.

Yet if RCI charges $1000 for their cruise and doesn't offer certain perks, but Disney charges $2000 for a similar cruise but offers additional perks, you don't think part of that extra $1000 goes towards paying for those extra perks? You don't think at some point in the past some Disney exec said to a table of other execs "Well we can charge a little more than that other cruise line because of our BYOB policy" (of course in addition to other extras)?
