How many captains does DCL have? We just took our 4th cruise on the 4th ship and on each one we bought the small model ship and had it signed by the captain. So, I have sigs from Commador Tom, Capt. Henry, Capt. Guus and Capt. Marco. So, I'm thinking on our next cruise (on the Dream) I will just bring the ship I already have and have the other side signed if it is a different captain. Is there a way to find out ahead of time who will be the captain? I may not bother packing the ship if I already have a sig from the capt.

Capt Robert Thord and John. There's at least 8 full time capt 2 for each ship. There's also a handful probably at least the same amount of fill in capts. Basically some one who has the experience and training just not a full time slot. They are usually 2nd in commands on the ships.

Capt Fabian is the one I was missing. Any capt will move to any ship at any time, especially now that DCL is building 2 new ships and Commodore Tom will be spending more time in Celebration and Germany designing the new ships and probably bringing them home.

Interestingly when you look up commodore toms linked in profile, capt johns profile is by the side and it shows he no longer is a captain for dcl?

Commodore Tom is getting old.

When is your next cruise?
If its a while off I would wait until a week or so before and ask then for an accurate answer as I do not think there is a public schedule of captains time aboard?

I've seen people that are "old" in mind and body in their 50's and I've met people in their late 80's that were vibrant and active. Depends. I don't think one can assign "old" to a number. JMHO. As for Commodore Tom, even if he did take the helm to bring the new ships home in a few years, he would not be the only qualified to do so.

I thought Captain John retired? Met him out and about (not on a DCL ship) in Orlando once. What a lovely man!

If you can't assign "old" to a number, then how can you assign "young" to a number?
It is a generalisation, given a certain age. Not meant to be specific to that one persons mental and physical wellbeing or an insult. Just a statement of fact.
Some "young" people can be more mature in their mental attitude than others of the same age that are more immature.
Average male life expectancy here is 78.74 years.
The average male life expectancy in Norway where tom was born is 81.45 years.

Ok, now you have me wondering whether you are old or not, C6PT7......... :joker:

Only time will tell if he brings Disney2021 and Disney2023 home. But my guess is no he won't. But I have been wrong before
I'm not sure, either. My guess is also "no", but there are those who think, since he's brought all the ships into service, he may continue. I kinda hope he does. But only if he feels he's up to it. There are safety issues that would be involved, I would think.

There kinda sorta is. Basically, some of more enterprising board members have gotten some of the Capts schedules so the rest under most normal circumstances can be extrapolated. Unless there is a major change, it was 6 weeks on 6 off for the Capts. Commodore Tom and Marco are on the Fantasy (sot sure whos on their now or if Tom is taking extended leaves due to the new ships) Henry was on the Dream, John I think was on the Wonder, the Magic was Fabian with the other 3 filling out the 2nd Capts spots on the Dream Magic and Wonder. Now, from time to time the Capts have been know to rotate for 1 reason or another, or even take time off on their scheduled at sea period. Now that Capt John apparently retired, it could be a step up Capt that's taking his place, until 4 or 5 more Capts are promoted/hired for the next 2 ships. For a while DCL was using the step up Capts after the 2 new ships were delivered, with Com Tom, Capts John, and Henry each on a dedicated ship, with the remaining spots using a step up Capt. Then DCL went thru a hiring process and they hired/promoted about 6 Capts. Guus and Robert and Thord were Staff Capts that were fully qualified and then promoted. (Guus and I talked about how our jobs were really similar in that respect)Marco and I think Fabian came from other lines. Each ship usually has someone that is as fully qualified as the regular Capt, just not a Capt spot, and can fill in on a moments notice.

I haven't seen a schedule per se, just the Capt X boarded the Disney Y on a certain date, or Capt W said hed be onboard to do a given cruise.

From the way that its worded, I looks like Robert and Zvonimir are both relief Capts., which is interesting since several members have said the Robert was a full time Capt now. Fabian might have been at a different line prior to 06 since to be basically qualified to be a master mariner, takes a lot of years, training and hours. I know I'm looking at doing my 100 ton capt lic and theres several hundred hours of at sea time have to do, under a certified capt, and the DCL and major lines capt are no different. They just have few more lic they have to have like certain radar endorements among other things, with more time at sea on the class of ship they want a lic for.
