Mods - please move if not in the right location.

I wanted to give folks a heads up that I recently received a phone call from DVC regarding my points-booked cruise trip I have September 15, 2007. Apparently DCL has lowered their requirements for points so I received a phone call stating that I was getting 38 points returned and some cash back (book daughter using cash).

Well today, I went to check on my points and noticed they hadn't been returned to my "normal" use year points. I went ahead and called MS and they stated they were returned as exchanged points since DCL. I was a little confused as the points were not returned as normal points. After a VERY brief 30 second conversation the very nice lady went ahead and was
going to "credit" my 38 points back as normal points instead of exchanged points. I think she understood the fact that me getting points back was not something of my doing but because DCL decided to use less points and had I known that or the points were set "correctly" before then I would have applied only those points needed. :cool1:

Have they lowered them permanently or was it just for this particular cruise? Or did they say?

I did some looking around and it looks like they may have gone down for all of them.

from other posters that it appears to have gone down for several cruises (not just mine) but I can't confirm that right now. Maybe a better deal now than with their previous number of points needed.

I have a cruised booked on points for Jan. 2007. I haven't received a call regarding getting points back, and just checked on the website and there have been no changes to my account. Has this been confirmed that it is for all 2007 cruises? I'm wondering if I should give member services a call...

Would be nice to have a few more points to use! :)

Where would new point amounts be listed? We've checked for an Oct 2007 cruise and the point amounts would be 500 or so for the 4 of us. If able to rent at $10 per point that would make it about a $5000 trip. If I booked with cash it would be $2700 or so. I'm curious why there is such a difference. If the point requirements are dropping then I may reconsider.

I'm sorry but I don't have an answer. I looked last night and it did state the "old" point requirements for my cruise. You may be able to call MS and ask them what their points are for your particular cruise. I had "heard" rumors they were lowering but didn't expect it when they called and left the message.

This is very interesting;I was interested in booking the 1/28/07 wonder cruise-but the points on the website and in the planner are the same? I'll have to call to find out if there is a point reduction for that cruise. Thanks for the info.

I've priced out several different trips during different "seasons' over the past year & the DVC point using the $10 basis is always almost double the discounted/early booking price. :confused3

Assume it's inline with point costs @ non-DVC resorts.

We cruised on the 11 day and were told several times that Disney was planning on reducing the number of points needed on all of their cruises.

I called Member Services to find out since I booked 3 rooms for December 2007's Xmas 7 night cruise. They told me that the reduction is only for a few September cruises in 2007, not others.

We encourtered a similar situation for our upcoming DL vacation...They have lowered the points for weeknights, but raised them for weekends. The points used to be the same for all nights, which I liked better!....They've now made it really expensive for weekends, just like DVC.

The points were lowered only on September 2007 cruises...We took advantage of this and the onboard offer combined to get a 7 night eastern cruise September 15, for 104 points (cat 11) per each adult and paid cash for 2 children...total points for 4 adults and 1 child on points was 479...great deal if ya ask me...And the child cost for cash was 508...So it looks like they are trying to fill up September!

Wow! That is a good deal. We booked on board too and were going to change the date. Maybe we'll go in September too!
