DCL and doing laundry

OK, just know there's somebody out there that took (a lot) more notice of this than I did on my first cruise. I'm wondering about the accessibility and/or non-accessibility of the laundry facilities onboard the Magic.

Reality is kinda settling in about me needing to do some laundry on the next trip. Yeiks! I'm hoping to do the westbound transatlantic, which means 14 days onboard. Afterwards hopefully followed by 14 days at WDW. Nice, great, superb and all if we can make it happen, but ehm......... 4 weeks. No way I will be able to do 4 weeks without having to do some laundry.

And ehm, yeiks, at the moment this trip is planned as a solo. Knowing my surroundings that says nothing (last 3 trips were booked as solotrips originally, non were in the end ), but I like to be prepared. Is there any way I can enter the laundryroom? Reach the machines? I'm assuming even if I can get into the room it'll be some interesting......acrobatics using the machines and am fine with that if that's the case. It's better than having to go around naked and/or in dirty or smelly clothes. I guess.

The accessible laundry is on Deck 6- I used it twice during our transatlantic cruise this past September and had no issues. Fortunately the first set of machines were available most of the time as otherwise there's a long bench in there that gets in the way of accessing the other ones. There's always a crew member/stateroom host in the hallway and once I asked him to move that danged bench so that I could get to a dryer. He was happy to help. You won't be able to get to the iron though, although I've had offers from crew members to iron my clothing.---Kathy

Ah, that is convenient! My stateroom is on deck 6 so no need to play the good old elevator-tag game.

Ironing? Kathy, don't talk so weird. Ironing is not part of my vocabulary. If that iron gets used like 4 times a year it's a sign I've gotten myself the wrong clothes and/or one of the assistants forgot about how to follow my laundry-gets-done-this-way-so-we-do-not-have-to-iron-afterwards-instructions. I can do without at home, def. are going to be able to do without during a cruise.

Not the best way to spent time on a cruise but I think it'll be a lot easier to do it onboard than it'll end up being when doing a load at one of the resorts.

Huh..yet another things those of us without wheelchairs take for granted.

I wonder if the people who design the layouts of those type of things (laundry facilities and whatnot) start out with a design then revamp to account for wheelchairs or if they design with that in mind straight away. I just found out the apartment downstairs and across from me is apparently wheelchair accessible, I had no idea from being in there.

I know this would be a more costly option, but I wanted to let you know that you can send out your laundry, too.

I've always found DCL to be extremely helpful in other ways and I would imagine they would help you with this, too. I'm willing to bet that if you called Guest Services, they would probably have someone meet you in the closest laundry room to help provide access.

Oh I'm sure they'ld be very willing to help. Actually already had some of the staff telling me they'ld be waiting for me a next cruise . I'll use the option if needs be but rather do it myself if possible. You know the type; do it myself.

we will change underwear everyday, but we only change every other day or so on clothes. If you take a shower often, etc. you can get by this way. Another trick is to spot clean and dry with a dryer. You can hand wash the areas that may smell and either let dry in the bathroom for the day and/or use a hair dryer. This is not the best, but it can get you by.

For cruising we skip doing laundry and wait to be on land for it. We have used the ship's laundry service, too. It's high priced, but we are on vacation.

A lot of ships (not Disney) don't offer self service laundry services. I think because Disney is so family friendly they have them on their ships, but it's not the norm.

If you want to spend your cruise time in this way at least it's doable.
