DCA's "Millionaire" closing

Just received an email from Disney, and thought I'd pass along this bit:

'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It' Closes at Disney's California Adventure™ park

Beginning Aug. 20, the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It" attraction in Disney's California Adventure™ park will cease operations on its daily shows and no return date has been identified. Thousands of Guests enjoyed this theme park show over its nearly three-year run, with many winning million-point prizes, such as trips to see the actual television show taped in New York.

Disneyland® Resort continues to provide new and enjoyable experiences for clients through a wide variety of shows and attractions that change from time to time.

For clients who have purchased a Walt Disney Travel Company package, Preferred Seating will continue to be available for Jim Henson's Muppet Vision™ 3-D, It's Tough to be a Bug!, and Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular. Information will be inserted into each vacation package documentation packet, advising clients of the closure.

Since from what I've been able to tell, they were still getting a pretty good audience (last time I was in there about a month ago it was quite full), I hope this means there will be something new coming very soon and they are ready to start construction.

oooh...I like "Millionaire"! Sorry to see that it's going. There were full shows when we were there in early June.

Let's all hope they are planning something special in there for the 50th. I agree that everytime I have been to DCA, the attraction is packed. In fact, we had to skip it once cause there were no seats left by the time we got into the dome. We always enjoy the show as well. Anyone heard any rumors or have any knowledge of what they are doing?

My understanding is that this is just a cost cutting move, prompted by managements belief that WWTBAM has a large cult following of annual passholders who pad the attendance and win a disproportionate share of the prizes, and most importantly that the attraction isn't actually that well received by the vacationing visitor that they're trying to attract to DCA. The former might very well be true, but I think everyone who sees the show likes it and would like to see it in subsequent visits. But unfortunately the die is probably cast.

Im a vactioning visitor from out of state who loves this attraction. Couldnt they have just changed the prizes to save some money. Im bummed it wont be open on my next trip.

We just got home from an improptude trip to DL. Hit DCA on Wed Aug 19th. One of my favorite locations is this show. We got to see it on it's last day - though I didn't know it was the last day. The cast/employees were sure goofing around and having more fun than I have ever seen them have including the host. He did mention it was his last day but I don't think the audience understood what that actually meant. The last guy in the hot seat made it to the last question and had a 50/50 chance of winning the cruise. Unfortunately he missed the question but it was still exciting.

PS I have heard rumors of Rock in Rollercoaster coming to this area. They do have the space.
